LEARNING CONTRACT
Overall theme
What is the overall theme?
What are you going to be
working on?
I will work to sew school materials like puppets, notebooks,

sacks... In this sense, my final outcome will be to sew a puppet.
Im conscious that sewing is an important tool for our day to
day, because, it permit us to be more self-sufficient.
In addition, sewing has been and actually is a popular and
common knowledge. The transmission of this wisdom is
indispensable to keep on growing as a person.
So, to be able to sewing, what I am going to do?
Firstly, I will start critically analyzing different ways to sew; I
will visit specific websites, read magazines, interview my
mother...
Straightaway, when I am able to sew by hand, and when I
develop my knowledge about sewing, I will continue sewing by
machine. For that, my mother will help and explain me, and I
will read magazines and visit websites to obtain additional
information.
Finally, I will design and draw my own puppet project, getting
inspiration from examples I will see in different sources. And in
the end, I will sew my own puppet.
To evaluate, I will do my first self-assessment before starting
my project, and I will do another self-assessment in the end of
project. Like this, I will compare both, and I will check if I
achieved the forecasted aims.
With respect to language improvement, I will go to English
classes to attend lessons and progress in this sense. In this
sense, I will write in my blog, I will record videos of myself to
show in my blog and I will create a glossary with new terms that
I will learn during the process. In the end of project, I will record
myself explaining the process, and showing my language
progress.
Looking into my artistic inquisitiveness during the process which
I will design, in the end of my project, I will be capable to sew
by hand and by machine, and to explain in English the steps
that I followed during the process.

Justification of the project

Why did you choose this
topic/project? Why do you
think it is relevant?
I choose learning to sew, because on one hand, I think that it is

despised or undervalued and forgotten activity, and it can be a
very useful tool.
Actually, repairing or producing what we need in our daily life is
strange. Currently, it is easier to resolve the problem (for
example, if we have to sew the hem of jeans, or if we want to
do curtain with a specific fabric) paying someone who knows
sewing. So, I think that learning to sew will be a good
knowledge to confront the daily needs.
In addition, we cant forget that our antecedents like for
example our grandmothers, sewed every day to make dresses,
jackets, bags, tablecloths... and I think that is essential recover
all his wisdom, and employ it in our lives.
In my personal case, my grandmother was a dressmaker and
she transmitted to her daughter (my mother) her knowledge
about sewing. I want to achieve everything my mother knows
about sewing. Besides this, I will deepen on different modalities
(hand sewing and machine sewing), to complete my knowledge.
On the other hand, to sew (like another creative process or
activities) isnt recognised like knowledge in the formal learning,
and in consequence, almost nobody knows to resolve the daily
problems which I have mentioned previously. So, I have
chosen this topic, to stress his value and look into all the
possibilities it provides.
Finally, to do my final production (the puppet), will allow me to
develop my artistic side and explore into my creativity, which I
have shelved due to not have enough time to do handicrafts.
Define Objectives of Project

What do you want to achieve
with this project?
Developing my project, I will achieve the following objectives:

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
To develop my personal autonomy and self-sufficiency.
To grow personally and as professional.
Analyse different sewing techniques.
To improve my creative skills.
To understand creativity like an important and necessary

value in any sphere in our life.

To improve my English (grammar, vocabulary...). For

that, I will work in my English lessons in writing and oral
aspects. In addition, I will use my blog to work different
linguistic aspects: I will write in English about my
process, and I will reflect on what I have learnt orally on
video, and uploading it on the blog. Similarly, I will crate
a glossary with all the new words I learn in English with
this project.
To be able to use technologic mediums, like Blogger and

Movie Maker.
Regarding unexpected or unintended learning, maybe I

will realize of sewing is a good and practical tool in our
day-to-day (personal as well as professional daily life).
Maybe, I will use the knowledge I achieve in different
spheres of my life; everything I learn regarding English,
regarding sewing or all related with planning my
interests. Perhaps, I will know myself further during the
process, in different situations.

The magazine that I will use to obtain information is Burda.
If I continue needing more explanations or information, I will
go to the bookstore of my sister in Durango, and I will ask her
for magazines or books related to this subject.
To get information from my mother, I will interview her, asking
how I can sew, what I need to do this...
Finally, I will note the most appropriate ideas, and I will do a
brainstorming with all the ideas that I have. After that, I will
choose the best decisions.
To improve my English, I will attend English lessons every
week. Like this, I will write in my blog at the end of and I will
take and publish pictures at each step (every week, normally
at weekend). In addition, I will record myself in the beginning
of the process, and in the end, too. I will compare both, and I
will reflect what I learn thank this project. I will create my
personal glossary with all new words I achieved with my
project, and I will write every week in my blog.
To evaluate my process, I will complete two self-assessments:
the first, in the beginning of process to test what I know about
sewing. The second, I will do in the end, with the objective to
verify if I have achieved the objectives that I mentioned.
Emergencies/contingencies:
What will you do if...
If I have problems with the material resources, I will try to

change it, or repair it, or I will try to find the solution with
some other resource(s).
I will try to find all the information that I need. If I continue
needing more explanations or information, I will go to the
bookstore of my sister in Durango, and I will ask her for
magazines or books related to this subject.
If I have problems with the sewing machine, I will resort to my

mother or my father, because they have knowledge about this
machine; my mother knows the functioning of this machine
because she usually sews, and my father is an engineer, so he
can help me if I need it.
If I have surprises with my timeline, I will make changes in the
planning. Anyway, I will try to be realistic and cautious with my
planning, to not have any unexpected event.

2015/3/2-2015/3/8:
I will design and do my first self assessment, to verify
my knowledge, and I will upload it in my blog to give
evidence.
I will search for different materials, techniques, ways...
to understand how I can sew by hand. For that, I will
consult specific magazines, and I will prepare an
interview to ask my mother how can I sew by hand.
I will look for products that I can manufacture easily
(bags, clothes...).
I will investigate how I can create my blog, and I will do
it.
I will attend English lessons to improve my language
level.
During my process I will take pictures and at the
weekend I will write the steps I have followed in my
blog. In that sense, I will explain what I have learnt and
I will show my progression (in the sewing process and in
my language improvement), writing and uploading

2015/3/9-2015/3/22: I will interview my mother to

ask her how can I sew by hand.
I will put in practice all the knowledge acquired.
I will work on hand sewing method.
I will produce different products sewing by hand (using
the techniques that I acquire previously).

I will do the final product (sewing with hand and with

and I will verify the new knowledge which I achieved.
Finally, I will write a reflection about this final

your aims?
2015/5/11-2015/5/17:
2015/5/13: I will have my second tutorial coaching
session with Marina.
I will prepare the final video where I will explain all the
process, and I will demonstrate my language
progression.
I divided my project in different steps. In this way, I will obtain

the knowledge gradually, and I will get to manufacture my final
objective: the puppet.
These are the strategies and resources that I will use during the
process:
TO SEW BY HAND:
-I will read and visit different specific magazines and websites:
-I will interview my mother to ask her how I can sew by hand:

different songs.
-I will carry out my personal glossary with all the new words I
learn in English with this project.

Resources:
Material:
For theoretical work: specific magazines and specific websites
(where I will find tutorial videos, explanations about to sew...).
For practical work: an appropriate table, thread of different
colours, needles, scissors, different fabrics, a notebook to draw
and write my ideas/projects/process, and the sew machine.
Digital resources: a computer (exactly Blogger and Movie
Maker) and a camera.
Human: my mother, Geaxi the librarian and my sister.

During the process I will write my daily progress, and I will take
photos in each step. After, I will write all the details in my site
each week.

In the beginning, I will do the first self-assessment, to evaluate

what I know about sewing. And in the end of process, I will have
made the puppets and I will do a reflection of all the process,
following these questions and ideas:

Thanks to this reflection, I will do a general revision of my

project.
To evaluate my language improvement, I will attend lessons,
and the teacher will tell me what I must improve, advising me.
In addition, I will evaluate myself, writing in English, speaking in
my videos in English, listening music in English, reading the
words of songs in English and reflecting during the process.
In the end of my project, I will record myself talking in English
and explaining my project, my final outcome and the steps I
have followed during the process.

To give evidence of my English progress, I will talk in English in
my final video, explaining the process and answering the points
that I have previously mentioned.
The pictures that I will use in my final video, must be significant
and must reflect the progress.
Finally, I will show my puppet, like a result of process.
To do this video, I will use the programme called Movie Maker.
