M.TECH PROGRAMME

A multidisciplinary masters program in Radio Frequency

Design & Technology is offered by the Centre for Applied Research


in Electronics. The program provides specialization in Microwave/
Microelectronics/ Signal Processing. This course is unique in India
imparting hands-on training focusing on hardware in a
wide range of topics like digital signal processors and applications,
speech processing, wireless and underwater communications, antenna
design, active and passive circuit design at microwave and millimeter
wave frequencies, fabrication of solid state devices, MEMS based
sensors and actuators, RF MEMS etc. The projects done by the students are hardware intensive. Frequently, the projects are part of

deliverable products for sponsoring agencies.

MICROWAVE GROUP
T


he Microwave Group specializes in high frequency RF circuit design (upto 140 GHz).
Over the years the group has developed expertise in the design, techniques and technology of
Microwave Integrated Circuits (MIC), Millimeter Wave Integrated Circuits (MWIC) and RF
MEMS. The group has established excellent infrastructure both in terms of hardware, as well
as software that facilitates design and development at frequencies upto 140GHz. The group
has recently tied up with MMIC foundries in India and abroad for design of MMIC circuits.
The group has successfully completed 30 major sponsored R&D projects and 60 consultancy
projects from various industries and R&D organizations.

MICROELECTRONICS GROUP
The Microelectronics Group houses a comprehensive facility for the devel-

opement of silicon & allied microcircuits. The group adds another dimensionality to the diversity of activities within the Centre in realizing the fabrication
of circuits. The group has a fabrication facility for integrated circuits. It has
initiated a few sponsored R&D programmes on sensors and actuators using
silicon micro-machining techniques.

he Signal Processing Group specializes in acoustics, speech & audio processing, signal processing algorithms and underwater signal processing. The group has been involved in
developing real-time hardware and signal processing algorithms for the underwater environments. Other research interests are in developing quantitative models for speech perception
and production mechanisms and using these models to improve the performance of speech
processing applications. The group has excellent lab infrastructure with all necessary softwares, high speed signal acquisition systems and DSP kits.
