What is LTE-Advanced Technology?

LTE-Advanced also known as 4G is the next evolution from LTE technology and
Telkom will be the first to commercially launch this technology in South Africa.
LTE-Advanced provides theoretical network speeds of up to 1Gbps downlink and
500Mbps uplink speeds which is double the speeds of what LTE can achieve currently.
It provides superfast internet that can turn your home into a fully connected Wi-Fi
hotspot, at ground breaking download speeds of up to 150Mbps. This is 3 times
faster than the best ADSL service currently on offer in the market.

What is the difference between LTE and LTE-Advanced Technologies?

LTE-Advanced is the next evolution from LTE technology. Mobile broadband
technologies have evolved as follows:
GPRS/EDGE (2.5/2.75G) evolved to UMTS (3G) to HSPA (3.5G) to HSPA+ (3.75G) to
LTE (3.9G or Super 3G) and currently to LTE Advanced (4G)
LTE-Advanced provides theoretical network speeds of up to 1Gbps downlink and
500Mbps uplink speeds which is double the speeds of what LTE can achieve currently.
LTE-Advanced supports a lower latency in comparison to LTE technology which is
important in supporting services that require real time online capability like online
gaming and high Quality of Service (QoS). LTE-Advanced QoS provides a guaranteed
quality of service and experience for voice and data services in comparison to LTE
which provides best effort service making it a best alternative to providing a fixed
wireless service.

What is the actual Telkom LTE-Advanced Network Speeds as

compared to the LTE Network?
Telkoms LTE-Advanced network supports downlink speeds of up to 150Mbps
downlink and uplink speeds of up to 25Mbps uplink speeds in the Parkview and
Parkhurst areas.
Telkoms LTE network supports downlink speeds of up to 90Mbps and uplink speeds
of up to 25Mbps.

Is LTE Advanced technology faster than a fixed line?

Currently in the market ADSL technologies are offering speeds of up to 40Mbps, LTE
Advanced offers faster download speeds of up to 150Mbps that will significantly
improve your internet experience. Youll be able to watch your favorite videos, stream
a radio station, play online games and browse the internet, all in real time.

When is the LTE-Advanced launch date?

Telkom will be launching LTE-Advanced in 51 suburbs that have been earmarked as
targeted areas for high speed broadband access and will initially launch
LTE-Advanced in Parkview and Parkhurst areas on the 15th of November 2014.

Is LTE Advanced rolling out nationwide?

No, the initial launch focus will be in Parkview and Parkhurst.
Which are the other suburbs earmarked for LTE-A roll out?
Telkom plans to roll out to an additional 49 suburbs by 31st March 2015 and the
subsequent roll out areas to be covered by LTE-A are as follows:

competitor?

Which router do I get with the LTE-A service?

Which contract package is available on the LTE-A service?

The CVP construct thats been enabled for the launch;

Is the LTE Advanced offer available on prepaid as well?

Yes, there are prepaid deals that will be available;

Are there any uncapped bundles?

No. This is a launch promotional offer. In future Telkom may consider offering these.
Is there a contract for a set period, or is there a month-on-month ongoing contract?
For each contract period a specific term and condition must be specified.

Is there a once-off installation fee or set up charge?

There are no installation fees for this product. For all other customers, a free setup
process for all your devices by a qualified technician from Telkom will apply.

Are there charges if I cancel?

Not if cancellation occurs within the 14-day money-back guarantee period please
remember to bring cancelled device in its original packaging (this is not the 14-day trial
period, but when the contract becomes live).
After 14 days, the following will be charged:
a. Admin fee.
b. Penalties are based on the remaining value of the device.
c. All benefits will be forfeited.
d. Ceasing of contract occurs one month from date of termination request.

Will I be getting one bill from Telkom?

No, as this is a mobile solution, you will be getting two bills from Telkom if you have an
ADSL or fixed-line contract.

How does the pro rata data work?

a. If you sign up for a 100GB package and your contract gets activated on, for instance,
15 November, you will get 50GB data (as it is in the middle of the month).
b. You will be charged only for the 50GB data used as from the 15th and for the full
device fee.
c. Your second charge will be the next calendar months data and device fee.
