Warm up:
Aims: -to relax the classroom atmosphere;
-to mark the absentees;
-to revise the vocabulary related to sports and to the moods they make us feel;
-to announce the title of the lesson;

Techniques: question-answer; discussion; visualization; explanations; brainstorming;
Timing: 5;
Procedure: - greeting; marking the absentees; checking the homework, if necessary;
-T draws a circle on the blackboard, asks students: What sports do you know/ practice?; How
do these sports make you feel?; Where do you practice these sports? and writes in two circles:
Sports and their benefits; Location;
-T announces the title of the lesson, writes it on the blackboard and explains it;

Activity 1: Lead- in:


Aims: - to introduce the Ss. into the atmosphere of the lesson;
- to raise the Ss interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to make predictions about what the text is about;
Techniques: question-answer; discussion; prediction;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T; I-W;
Timing: 5;
Procedure: T asks the students to solve exercise 1 on page 18.

Activity 2: Pre-reading- introducing the new vocabulary items


Aims: - to discover and infer the meanings of the unknown words from the context;
- to introduce the new vocabulary;
- to check the SS comprehension of the context;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; P-W;

Techniques: silent reading; discovery techniques; scanning, question-answer; discussion; selfcorrection; peer-to-peer correction;
Timing: 13;
Procedure: T asks SS to solve exercise 2 from their worksheet. In order to do so, they have to
scan the text and find the underlined words they have on the worksheet and deduce the meanings
from the context. They have to work in pairs.

Activity 3: Reading;
Aims: -to check the SS reading comprehension;
-to develop reading and pronunciation skills;
-to give correct grammatical answers to the comprehension questions;
-to match the advice with the correct explanations;
-to check if the students have understood the newly acquired vocabulary items;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; G-W;
Techniques: monitoring, directing comprehension task; silent and loud reading; scanning;
question-answer; matching exercise; discussion; self-correction; peer-to-peer correction;
Time: 25;
Procedure: T asks SS to solve in groups exercise III from their worksheet. Each group has to
give the right answer to one question according to the text. Students have to read their answers,
write them down on their worksheet and they also have to find and read from the text the passage
which led them to the right answer.
T asks SS to solve in groups exercise IV from their worksheet. They will match the
advice with the correct explanations.
The students will use self-correction and peer-to-peer correction and the T will
interfere only when necessary to give the right solutions.

Activity 4: follow-up tasks:


Aims: -to give feedback;
-to revise the newly acquired knowledge;
Interaction: T-SS; SS-T;
Techniques: discussion, question-answer;
Time: 2;

Procedure: T asks the students to return to exercise 1 and reconsider their answers after having
read the text. The teacher gives thanks to the students for their participation, praises all the SS,
especially the good ones.
