We had a very pleasing turn out at the barbeque on Friday night. This was an excellent
opportunity for our new families to get to know each other and mingle with staff and
other families. We would like to pass on a special thank you to the Community Partnerships
team (led by Miss Shuttleworth (Bishop) and Mr Devisser) for organising and coordinating
the event!

Last week selected Year 5 & Year 6 students attended a kayaking program at Lilydale Lake. The session was run by Canoeing Victoria.
Special thanks go to Mr Devisser for organizing such a great activity and to Mrs Lorenc and parents for their support with transportation
and supervision on the day. Judging from the feedback, it was a fantastic opportunity to be involved in such a fun yet challenging sport.

As of next week our Foundation students will be attending school fulltime. Thank you to all the parents of
these students for your support throughout the first 5 Foundationfree Wednesday weeks. This has enabled
the teachers to perform some valuable testing and assess each childs entry level.

The end car park near the main gate in Greive Street has been allocated as a disabled car park. Please keep it free unless you have a disability
sticker displayed.

Research demonstrates that successful schools have a commitment to ongoing learning and to continually developing the skills and
practice of their teachers. We have a planned agenda of professional learning related to our new 2015-2018 School Strategic Plan and
Annual Implementation Plan goals for 2015. These goals are developed through analysis of the student achievement results using data
from student assessments and observations of learning behaviours. The priority that our professional learning will focus on this year is
Writing. Our teachers undertake professional learning each week after school and on curriculum days, drawing upon the expertise of our
teaching staff and educational consultants. Teachers have been excited about working with each individual student to create a Writers
Notebook. We have already seen some wonderful results.

New Foundation/ Prep parents will be noticing how tired their children are getting, as the demands of school are growing. You will be having less time
together with your child, but dont forget to make time to play. Playing together encourages and enhances your childs development. After a day at
school, playtime is also just for unwinding and having fun.
Play is important for your childs learning and development. Playing games with others helps children learn about sharing. Learning to play fairly is also
important at school, and theres often a lot of talk between children about fairness, rules, and right and wrong. Group games help your child learn about
self-control and getting on with others. He or she will learn that if you just do what you like, when you like, youre not likely to win or be liked by others.
Group games also give kids a way to safely unload angry feelings. For example, your child can kick a ball (instead of another person) and use all that
energy by playing hard.
Sometimes rough-and-tumble play and play fighting will be a part of childrens group games. Whilst this is perfectly normal developmental behaviour, this
activity is not encouraged in a school setting, as it is difficult for teachers to judge when it is just play and when it is getting out of hand.
Sport is another way children can learn about being part of a group effort. By teaching your child how to be a good sport from a young age, you can
help them get the most out of being part of games.
Other ways to encourage you child in physical play include:
Dancing to a favourite CD
Camping in the backyard
Playing organised sports with a local team
Going to the local playground with a friend.

Always remember to fit in time for fun!

AFL, FOOTBALL(SOCCER), NETBALL AND

BASKETBALL
This is just a reminder that if your child is
considering trialling for state team selection they
will now need to do so online via the SSV
website (http:\\www.ssv.vic.edu.au).
It is absolutely crucial you confirm with the sports
teacher at your school that they will get your
support. They have been sent guidelines re the
process and will be able to offer the best advice.
Once you have registered online and paid the
$25 fee (which covers all trials they get through)
the sports teacher at your school can choose not
to endorse your application meaning your $25 is
lost before you get to the first trial. This is not a
scenario anyone wants to be placed in.
There are no longer district trials meaning
anyone nominating must be playing or have
played in a high level of competition, this will
often be of representative level for their local
area.
Please go to the respective sports - Australian
Football, Basketball, Football (Soccer) & Netball
via the Team Vic page of the SSV website to
register.
Applications Close on the 25th March, 2015.
