Widely known to the world as YTL, the first company engaged in the construction

business was founded in 1955 by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Yeoh Tiong Lay, after whom
the group is named. YTL is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. YTL Corporation Berhad
also engages in the ownership and management of regulated utilities and other infrastructural
assets. His eldest son, Tan Sri Dato (Dr) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, became the Managing Director
of YTL Corp in 1988. Under his stewardship, the YTL Group grew from a single listed entity to
a group of five listed entities in Malaysia. Since then the Groups core businesses have expanded
to include utilities, cement manufacturing, construction contracting, property development and
investment, hotel development and management, information technology(including a
revolutionary 4G network), as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) services for third
parties. Today, YTL Corp is one of the Bursa Malaysia's largest companies under the Main
Market. The company has also been listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1996, being the
first Asian non-Japanese company to be listed there.
The YTL Corp firm operates through the following segments: Construction; Information
Technology and e-Commerce Related Business; Hotel Operations; Cement Manufacturing and
Trading; Management Services and Others; Property Investment and Development; and Utilities.
YTL Corporation carries out property development activities. YTL has built up excellent
and high quality of buildings such as condominiums with attractive and innovative designs.
The Construction segment builds and constructs buildings, schools, army barracks, hospitals,
hotels and high-rise office blocks, and large scale infrastructure projects on time and on budget.
It has won many awards for technological innovation in the building industry.

Besides, the Information Technology and e-Commerce Related Business segment


develops, owns, and operates narrowcast digital media networks and wireless fixed broadband
services while the Hotel Operations segment owns and manages hotels and resorts such as
Pangkor Laut Resort, Tanjong Jara Resort, Villa Tassana, Bray House, JW Marriott Kuala
Lumpur, The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur, and The Majestic Malacca. The company is involved
in both ownership and management of properties and operations ranging from moderately-priced
hotels to luxury trains. Moreover, the Cement Manufacturing and Trading segment manufactures
and trades ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, and cement. YTL Cement is Malaysia's largest
producer of ready-mixed concrete. It is the fastest growing cement company in Malaysia, with
fully integrated operations across the complete manufacturing value chain. Its principal activities
include the manufacture and supply of Cement products, Concrete products, Quarry products and
provision of related services to the construction sector.
In addition, the Management Services and Others segment provides maintenance and
monitoring services for power stations, cement plants, and the Express Rail Link. Meanwhile,
the Property Investment and Development segment develops residential houses, apartments, and
condominiums and the Utilities segment consists of water and sewerage operations in the United
Kingdom; power generation and merchant multi-utilities in Singapore; and power transmission,
generation, and communications business in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia.
The YTL group has lots of history on their innovation for example it was the first
company to introduce turnkey construction into Malaysia. It was also the first Independent
Power Producer in Malaysia and also in Asia to use non-US$ funding to finance a power plant in
Asia (setting a new industry standard). Its gas-fired combined cycle power plant was built in a

world record time of just 22 months, and was the first to achieve the new ISO 9001 Year 2000
Quality Standard Award, based on quality management systems. The YTL group is the first Asian
company to issue a Zero-Coupon Euro-bond. It was also the first Malaysian company to use nonrecourse local financing to finance a high-speed rail project.
Over the years, YTL Corporation has been recognized globally as one of Malaysias best
managed companies. The prestigious awards and acknowledgements are a testament to our key
achievements, excellent practices and innovation at the core of the YTL Group of Companies.

Furthermore, YTL corporation is a green organization. YTL group have an environmental
vision to being a responsible corporate citizen. Energy plays an essential role in ensuring quality
of life for people everywhere, for us and for future generations. Supplying energy reliably is
critical to helping people maintain and improve their standard of living. However, this brings
with it significant challenges - for example, the very real threat of climate change means that we
need to continue to provide and deliver energy in a way that minimises the impact our emissions
have on the environment. We recognise the importance of sustainable development, taking
account of the impact of our operations on society and understanding the dire consequences of
global warming.

In conclusion, this assignment attempts to explore the relationship between Employees


behavior and attitude with job satisfaction in YTL corporation and how does the relationship
helps the company to be a successful company. Next, we are going to discuss about the relevant
principles and concepts of management that are being applied in the company. Furthermore, we
would like to analyze how would the companys practices or operations being affected by
employees behavior and attitude. In the end of the assignment, recommendations will be
provided to solve the encountered problems faced by the company by using the principles and
concept of management.
