Skin Day Spa offers
a distinctive atmosphere
and unique services to its
customers.
Aubree Jackson, owner of
the spa, moved in to the
High Street business in
October. Since then she said
her business is doubling in
size each month.
We are more of a funky,
hip hop loungy place, she
said. We have the lash
lounge, a brow wax bar,
facial bar and can do all of
that in the lounge.
At her day spa customers
can get eyelash extensions, which add fullness
to lashes. Adding the synthetic extension to existing
lashes takes about 1 to 2

hours, she said.


Just like synthetic nails,
you need to come back in
for fills as the eyelashes
she and new hair growth,
Jackson said.
A full set is around $200
and there are several styles
offered.
She recently added an
eyebrow extension station
to her business.
Thats really cool, she
said. Nobody else is doing
that in Auburn.
She explained that an eyebrow extension is similar to
the lash extensions.
They can be applied to
make the hair longer so
you can comb them and

give them a longer look,


Jackson said.
She also offers henna
brown, which is a stain that
lasts up to two month.
But her top seller is permanent makeup.
I tattoo lip liners, full lips,
eyebrows and eye liners,
Jackson said.
We also do makeup application, organic spray
tanning and body wraps.
Client Ray Gallo said the
shop offers quality work.
You cant beet the customer service when someone
cares, he said. It set (Jackson) apart and makes you
want to come back.

WEDDING SEASON is upon us so I thought


it would be a great time to share some eye
makeup tips with all my brides out there.

Dont wait until the last minute to plan how


to paint your masterpiece! Put your best

face forward! After it is all said and done,

only the memories and photos remain. With


these Dos and Donts they will be sure to
remember the smile on your face and the
gleam in your beautiful eyes!

Dos
If you are unsure about doing your own makeup, hire a
professional.
If you hire a makeup artist make sure to book a trial well
in advance. This will ensure that you are both on the same
page for your special day.
Get your brows designed with a wax or tweeze to frame
and define the eye area.
Always use brow filler! This makes the eyes pop.
Start using eye cream well before the wedding. This will
combat tired dull eyes.
Use eye primer. This will hold your look all night long.
Choose mainly matte shadow colors. This will create a
beautiful eye on camera.
Pick colors to highlight your EYES, not your dress.
Make sure to blend. Then blend again, and again, and
again. I think you get the point.
Wear false lashes or waterproof mascara. No matter how tough
you think you are, its likely that you will shed a few tears.

Donts
Dont wait until the last minute to think about your
makeup! Either prepare yourself or hire someone in
advance to ensure availability.
Never get your brows or any facial waxing done on the
day of or the day before your wedding. You wont be able
to fix any lifting or reactions.
Stay away from any sparkly, shiny shadows. The camera
picks up reected light that you wont see in person.
Dont use old mascara. This can make a aky, clumpy
mess.
No experimenting with new eye products. This is not the
time for that.
Dont over do it! This is your wedding, not an on stage
performance.

Loomis has been part owner of Fitness 714 on 1106
Tinker Road in Rocklin for
a little over four months
and looks forward to seeing
it blossom.
Phillips and her husband
Jimmy have been involved

in fitness and overall health


for most of their lives.
In the hustle and bustle
of owning a business
Phillips is also the mother of a beautiful (almost)
2-year-old girl, Maci, and
is expecting a little boy in
April.
Phillips has continued
to do high-intensity and
functional-movement style
workouts well into her
pregnancy. She has had
multiple conversations

with her doctor and done


plenty of research on the
benefits and challenges of
continuing crossfit-style
workouts while pregnant.
My suggestion to other
women is to listen to your
body, Phillips said. Some
days you feel up to it, some
days you dont. That is the
most important thing, listen to your body and stay
hydrated, Phillips said.

is positive that this time
around she will have a
more comfortable labor
and it will help her bounce
back better in her recovery
post-baby.

and cardio. Phillips still
participates on a regular

her body, of course.

daughter around people
they feel are like family.
This includes the encouraging attitudes, from coaches
to clients, which enable
them to offer a lifestyle to
their children unlike many
others.

two or three times, trying
variations of each exercise

What girl hasnt seen frozen and wanted a glimpse


into that world? I was able
to spend a perfect day in
a frozen paradise atop a
winter wonderland with
the love of my life over
Valentines Day weekend.
Surrounded by the superlative Sierra skies, the snow
glinted and gleamed in the
sun light and I basked in
the heavenly glory.
Winter activities at Lake
Tahoe generally involve
skis, poles and goggles and
are tied to the conditions of
the snow, whether natural or man-made. Theres
another way, however, to
glide, slide or otherwise

destination right up the hill


sail smoothly through the
High Sierra air: skating.
Aside from sipping hot
chocolate in front of a
blazing fire after a morning
perusing the shops at the
base of the Mountain in
Squaw Village, non-skiers
can burn some calories
ice-skating at the Olympic
pavilion, snow-tubing,
dog-sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
at High Camp. Of course,
pampering is always an
option, too, with the indulgently relaxing treatments
at the Trilogy Spa.
Squaw Valley High Camp
is an eight-minute cable
car ride that will lift you to
8,200 feet above sea level,
where you can skate on
the highest Olympic ice
rink in North America and
take in a view of the valley
and Tahoes azure waters
beyond.

world and it looked that
way too.
The 100-by-200-foot outdoor rink is part of a recreation complex that includes
swimming - the pool opens
in mid-March - and tennis
in the summer. The rink,
open all year, is covered
with a temporary enclosure
only on hot summer days
to ensure that the ice stays
solid. Restaurants include
the Terrace, a lodge-style
cafeteria open during the
day; Alexanders, open
day and evening; and the
Poolside Cafe. Next to the
rink is the 1960 Olympic
Museum, which explores
in exhibits and video
presentations the Winter
Olympics that were held at
Squaw Valley that year.

Richard Nixon officially opening the Games,

the mens biathlon and
womens speed skating;
introduced instant replay
and honored the first skier
to win a medal on metal

continued to build upon
its legacy, with expansions
and modern upgrades that
make it a terrific vacation
spot for skiers and non
