Introduction

The Desktop Laptop Image Manual describes how to install and configure the software on a Diversity
Benchmarker laptop and a Diversity Optimiser laptop.

Installing the Base Image

This chapter describes how to use a Drive Snapshot or Ghost disk image to install the base software image
on the Diversity Benchmarker and Diversity Optimizer laptops. This image contains the following software:

Windows XP Professional

MapX

Norman Security Suite

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Before You Install


The disk image contains an OEM Windows installation that requires a license key for activation. As a result,
you need to determine the Windows license key of the existing laptop installation before you use the disk
image.

To determine the Windows license key of the laptop


1. Copy the zMSKeyViewerPlus.exe file to the laptop and double-click the file.
2. In the list of supported products, click the plus sign (+) beside Microsoft Windows XP.

3. Write down the Product Key.

Installing the Image with Drive Snapshot


This section describes how to install the basic software image with Drive Snapshot or Ghost. Drive Snapshot
is available on the external hard drive that ships with current Diversity Systems. If your hard drive contains a
folder with the name ghost, go to the "Installing the Image With Norton Ghost" section on page 4.

To install the image with Drive Snapshot


1. Copy the folder that contains the laptop images to the USB hard drive that contains the Snapshot
software.
2. Start Drive Snapshot.

Turn off the laptop and connect the USB hard drive.

Turn on the laptop, hold down F12 until the boot menu appears.

Select the USB hard drive in the list of devices and then press ENTER.

On the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Snapshot.

3. Restore the C drive from the Snapshot image.

In the Snapshot window, click Restore Disk from File.

Click Browse, locate the laptop image for the C: drive, for example, 2_E6400c.SNA, and then click
Open.

In the list of drives, right-click the C: drive of the laptop, and then click Restore.

Important: If the laptop still has the original Dell partitions, you need to delete the C: and HD1:1
partitions. To delete a partition, right-click the partition in the list, and then click Delete. Right-click the
free space and create a new primary partition. Right-click the new partition and click Restore.

At the end of the process, restart the laptop.

Note: The user name is Administrator and the password is swissqual.


4. During the startup process, enter the Windows product key at the prompt.
Use the product key from the "Before You Install" section on page 2.
5. Logon as Administrator and activate Windows.
After you install the image, you need to install and configure the software for a Diversity Benchmarker laptop
or a Diversity Optimizer laptop. See the relevant chapter in this document for more information.

Installing the Image with Norton Ghost


This section is only relevant for Diversity systems that were shipped with Norton Ghost, that is, if your
external hard drive contains a folder with the name ghost. For systems with Drive Snapshot, see the
"Installing the Image with Drive Snapshot" on page 2.

To install the image with Norton Ghost


1. Copy the folder that contains the laptop images to the USB hard drive that contains the Snapshot
software.
2. Start Norton Ghost.
a

Turn off the laptop and connect the USB hard drive.

Turn on the laptop, hold down F12 until the boot menu appears.

Select the USB hard drive in the list of devices and then press ENTER.

Press 5 to quit the list of options.

Type the following command to start Norton Ghost.

\GHOST\GHOST.EXE
f

In the About Symantec Ghost window, select OK.

3. Restore the hard drive from the Ghost image.

Select Local, point to Disk, and select From Image.

Locate the image file, for example, 2_E6400.GHO, and then select Open.

Select the laptop drive in the list, and then select OK.

In the Destination Drive Details window, select OK.

In the Question dialog box, click Yes to start the restore process.

At the end of the process, click Reset Computer.

4. During the startup process, enter the Windows product key at the prompt.
Use the product key from the "Before You Install" section on page 2.
5. Logon as Administrator and activate Windows.

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, and then click Activate Windows.

Follow the activation instructions.

Double-click the Reboot icon on the Windows Desktop.

After you install the image, you need to install and configure the software for a Diversity Benchmarker laptop
or a Diversity Optimizer laptop. See the relevant chapter in this document for more information.

Configuring a Diversity Benchmarker Laptop

This chapter describes how to install and configure the following software on a Diversity Benchmarker laptop:

Diversity Benchmarking Software

Microsoft SQL Server 2008

To configure the laptop for Diversity Benchmarker


1. Install SQL Server 2008.
For a description on how to install this server, see the Installation - MS SQL Server 2008.pdf document.
Important: Ensure that the user name for the server is sa and that the password is swissqual.
2. Configure SQL Server 2008.
a

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008, point to
Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.

In the console tree, expand the SQL Server Network Configuration branch, and then click
Protocols for SQLExpress.

Right-click the following protocols in the right pane and select Enable.

3. Install the Diversity Benchmarking software and license key and then restart Windows.
For a description on how to install this software and license key, see the Installation - Diversity Platform
and Applications.pdf document.
4. Connect the Diversity system to your laptop, start Test Manager, and then configure the system.
For more information, see the Manual - Diversity TestManager.pdf document.
5. Configure NQComm.
a

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to SwissQual, point to Diversity, and then click
NQComm.

On the Configuration menu, click Settings.

On the General tab, select Start scanning automatically.

On the Servers tab, specify the following login information for the SQL Server:

In the Server box, type the name of the SQL server.

In the User box, type sa.

In the Password box, type swissqual.

Note: Run a Speech test and a Ping data test to verify the configuration of the Diversity system.
6. Create shortcuts on the Windows Desktop.
a

Create a shortcut to the following file:

C:\Program Files\SwissQual\Diversity\NQComm\NQComm.exe
b

Create a Remote Desktop Connection shortcut to each PCM in the Diversity System.
For more information, see the Windows help.

7. If you want to view 7 PCMs in a row in TestManager instead of 4, edit the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SwissQual\Diversity\NQTM\Settings
\UserSettings_admin.xml

Open the file in a text editor.

Set the value of the following tag to 7:

<UnitsPerRowCount>7</UnitsPerRowCount>

Save the file.

8. Update the software on the laptop.

Update Windows and then turn off the automatic update feature.

Install the product key for the Norman Security Suite and then update the software.

Configuring a Diversity Optimizer Laptop

This chapter describes how to install and configure the following software on a Diversity Optimizer laptop:

Diversity Optimizer

Windows drivers for the measurement devices

QuickTime and RealPlayer

To configure the laptop for Diversity Optimizer


1. Install the Diversity Optimizer software and license key and then restart Windows.
For a description on how to install this software and license key, see the Installation - Diversity Platform
and Applications.pdf document.
Important: Ensure that the user name for the server is sa and that the password is swissqual.
2. Configure NQComm.
a

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to SwissQual, point to Diversity, and then click
NQView.

On the toolbar, click the Start Diversity icon.

In NQComm, click Settings on the Configuration menu.

On the General tab, select Start scanning automatically.

On the Servers tab, specify the following login information for the SQL Server:

In the Server box, type the name of the SQL server.

In the User box, type sa.

In the Password box, type swissqual.

In the Database box, ensure that the name is Laptop Name\DIVERSITYOPT.

3. Configure the Bluetooth connection to the GPS receiver.


a

In the Windows notification area, double-click the Bluetooth icon, and then follow the instructions to
install the drivers.

Turn on the GPS receiver.

Right-click the Bluetooth icon, click Add a Bluetooth Device, and then follow the instructions to add
the GPS receiver.

4. Install the software drivers for the Optimizer devices, that is, data cards, mobile phones, and scanners.
Note: The drivers are in the C:\Program Files\SwissQual\Diversity\Drivers folder on the laptop.
5. Configure the QuickTime settings.
a

On the Start Menu, click Control Panel, and then click QuickTime.

In the Sound Out area on the Audio tab, select the following values:

Rate: 48 kHz

Size: 16 bit

Channels: Mono

On the Streaming tab, clear the Enable Instant-On check box.

In the Video area on the Advanced tab, click Safe mode (GDI only)

6. Configure the RealPlayer settings.

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Real, point to RealPlayer, and then click
RealPlayer.

On the Tools menu, click Preferences.

In the console tree on the left, click Internet/Privacy, and then clear the following check boxes:

Send connection-quality data to RealServers

Send configuration info when connecting to Technical Support

Click Content in the console tree, click Settings in the Clip Cache area, and then clear the Enable
caching check box.

Click AutoUpdate in the console tree and clear the check box in front of Automatically download
and install important updates.

Click Hardware in the console tree and drag the slider in the Video Card Compatibility area to
Most reliable.

Click Message Center in the console tree, click Configure Message Center, clear all checkboxes,
click OK, and then close the Message Center window.

7. Restart Windows and connect the measurement devices to the laptop.


Important: Verify that the RealPlayer preferences have not reverted to the default values.
8. Start NQView and configure the system.
a

On the Connections menu, click Connect Device.

In the Device configuration window, click Hardware detection:all in the list of options, and then
click HW detection.

Note: Run a Speech test and a Ping data test to verify the configuration.

9. Update the software on the laptop.


a

Update Windows and then turn off the automatic update feature.

Install the product key for the Norman Security Suite and then update the software.
