Introduction
The Desktop Laptop Image Manual describes how to install and configure the software on a Diversity
Benchmarker laptop and a Diversity Optimiser laptop.

Chapter 1 | Introduction
CONFIDENTIAL MATERIALS
This chapter describes how to use a Drive Snapshot or Ghost disk image to install the base software image
on the Diversity Benchmarker and Diversity Optimizer laptops. This image contains the following software:
Windows XP Professional
MapX
Turn off the laptop and connect the USB hard drive.
Turn on the laptop, hold down F12 until the boot menu appears.
Select the USB hard drive in the list of devices and then press ENTER.
Click Browse, locate the laptop image for the C: drive, for example, 2_E6400c.SNA, and then click
Open.
In the list of drives, right-click the C: drive of the laptop, and then click Restore.
Important: If the laptop still has the original Dell partitions, you need to delete the C: and HD1:1
partitions. To delete a partition, right-click the partition in the list, and then click Delete. Right-click the
free space and create a new primary partition. Right-click the new partition and click Restore.
Turn off the laptop and connect the USB hard drive.
Turn on the laptop, hold down F12 until the boot menu appears.
Select the USB hard drive in the list of devices and then press ENTER.

Locate the image file, for example, 2_E6400.GHO, and then select Open.
Select the laptop drive in the list, and then select OK.
In the Question dialog box, click Yes to start the restore process.
4. During the startup process, enter the Windows product key at the prompt.
Use the product key from the "Before You Install" section on page 2.
5. Logon as Administrator and activate Windows.

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, and then click Activate Windows.
After you install the image, you need to install and configure the software for a Diversity Benchmarker laptop
or a Diversity Optimizer laptop. See the relevant chapter in this document for more information.
This chapter describes how to install and configure the following software on a Diversity Benchmarker laptop:
On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008, point to
Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.
In the console tree, expand the SQL Server Network Configuration branch, and then click
Protocols for SQLExpress.
Right-click the following protocols in the right pane and select Enable.

3. Install the Diversity Benchmarking software and license key and then restart Windows.
For a description on how to install this software and license key, see the Installation - Diversity Platform
and Applications.pdf document.
4. Connect the Diversity system to your laptop, start Test Manager, and then configure the system.
For more information, see the Manual - Diversity TestManager.pdf document.
5. Configure NQComm.

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to SwissQual, point to Diversity, and then click
NQComm.
On the Servers tab, specify the following login information for the SQL Server:
Note: Run a Speech test and a Ping data test to verify the configuration of the Diversity system.
6. Create shortcuts on the Windows Desktop.

C:\Program Files\SwissQual\Diversity\NQComm\NQComm.exe

Create a Remote Desktop Connection shortcut to each PCM in the Diversity System.

7. If you want to view 7 PCMs in a row in TestManager instead of 4, edit the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SwissQual\Diversity\NQTM\Settings

Update Windows and then turn off the automatic update feature.
Install the product key for the Norman Security Suite and then update the software.

This chapter describes how to install and configure the following software on a Diversity Optimizer laptop:
Diversity Optimizer
On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to SwissQual, point to Diversity, and then click
NQView.
On the Servers tab, specify the following login information for the SQL Server:
In the Windows notification area, double-click the Bluetooth icon, and then follow the instructions to
install the drivers.
Right-click the Bluetooth icon, click Add a Bluetooth Device, and then follow the instructions to add
the GPS receiver.
4. Install the software drivers for the Optimizer devices, that is, data cards, mobile phones, and scanners.
Note: The drivers are in the C:\Program Files\SwissQual\Diversity\Drivers folder on the laptop.
5. Configure the QuickTime settings.

On the Start Menu, click Control Panel, and then click QuickTime.
In the Sound Out area on the Audio tab, select the following values:
Rate: 48 kHz
Size: 16 bit
Channels: Mono
In the Video area on the Advanced tab, click Safe mode (GDI only)
On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Real, point to RealPlayer, and then click
RealPlayer.
In the console tree on the left, click Internet/Privacy, and then clear the following check boxes:

Click Content in the console tree, click Settings in the Clip Cache area, and then clear the Enable
caching check box.
Click AutoUpdate in the console tree and clear the check box in front of Automatically download
and install important updates.
Click Hardware in the console tree and drag the slider in the Video Card Compatibility area to
Most reliable.
Click Message Center in the console tree, click Configure Message Center, clear all checkboxes,
click OK, and then close the Message Center window.
In the Device configuration window, click Hardware detection:all in the list of options, and then
click HW detection.
Note: Run a Speech test and a Ping data test to verify the configuration.
