I.
Objectives:
A. Given the available materials, the learners should be able to:
1. identify the three method of heat transfer;
2. differentiate the three method of heat transfer;
3. perform an activity about heat transfer;
4. develop and manifest the value of safety and consciousness; and
5. get 10 out of 15 on the test correctly.
II.
Subject Matter
A. Topic: Heat Transfer
B. Concepts/topics
1. The three method of heat transfer are conduction, convection, and radiation.
2. Conduction is the transfer of heat energy by molecular and electron collision
within a substance.
3. Convection is transfer of heat energy in gas or liquid by means of currents in
the heated fluid. The fluid moves, carrying energy with it.
4. Radiation is the transfer of heat by way of electromagnetic waves.
C. Materials
2 Small transparent jars
2 Big transparent jars
2 Conducting wire
Food Coloring
Tap water
Hot water
4 Candle

Learning Task
Teachers Task
A. Routine Activity
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
Good morning!
Learners Task
4. Recall
Yesterday, we started our discussion
about heat. We differentiated heat and
temperature, we also introduced the
concept of heat transfer.
The teacher posts a picture of ice on a
hand on the board.
John, what can you infer about the
picture? What happens to the ice after
some time?
B. Pre-activity
1. Definition of terms: Guess the word.
Before we go to our activity this
morning, there are some terms we need
to define, to further understand the
concept.
Sir, it is current.
Sir, it is molecule.
None Sir.
2. Data Gathering
a. The students will fill out the data
sheet provided and answer the guide
questions. (The teacher provides
manila paper for the presentation of
data afterward)
D. Post-activity Discussion
1. Analysis of data gathered
Conduction
a. What is the source of heat in the
activity?
How do you say so?
Great!
b. What happens to the wax ball as you
put the wire into the candle?
Does the wax ball fell all at once?
Ok then,
c. How does the heat get from the
source to the wax?
Ok thats correct.
Now can you explain in the class how
heat transfer, base on your diagram?
Class do we need a direct contact in
this method?
Conduction.
Convection
a. What happen to the hot colored water
inside to the small jar?
Convection.
Radiation
a. How do you feel when you place
your hand above, beside and under
the source of heat?
Yes.
Candle.
Fire.
Yes.
Yes.
Electromagnetic wave.
Radiation.
2. Generalization
At the end of the presentations of the
six group, the teacher provides a one
fourth cartolina for each group.
Ok class, what have you learned
about the lesson? In your own word
define the method of heat transfer
that is assigned to your group.
(wooden spatula)
I choose this material because
it prevents heat to travel to my
hand, it keeps us safe from
burning.
(Apron)
Also Sir, the apron. This thing
prevents the radiation from the
open fire.
IV.
(aluminum pan)
Sir, example the aluminum
pan, since we know the
concept of conduction we can
use it to save energy. We can
cook food with less energy.
Assessment
In each of the following examples, identify whether heat is being transferred
through conduction, convection or radiation. Some may have two possible answers.
Choose the answer that best fits the situation. Write the answer before the number.
________________1. Warming hand over a radiator.
________________2. Eggs cooking in a frying pan.
________________3. Snowman melting in the sun.
________________4. Water boiling in a kettle.
________________5. Warmth from the fireplace circulating to through the house.
________________6. Tongue freezing to a metal pole.
________________7. Ice melting on a hotplate.
________________8. Freezing outside on a cold day.
________________9. Steam piping out of a teapot.
________________10. Burning your hand on a hot pan
________________11. Ice cubes keeping lemonade cold.
________________12. Laying out in the sun
________________13. Roasting marshmallows over a fire.
________________14. Making toast in a toaster
________________15. Heating a kettle on a hot furnace.
