Conditions of application

Interns will be required to assemble news headlines related to


Pulse Lab Jakarta work; some editorial skills are essential to the
internship, as is the ability (for national interns) to translate
material from Bahasa indonesia to English.
Prior to starting, interns should have a reasonable
understanding of the work of Pulse Lab Jakarta in Indonesia
and/or knowledge of international relations and UN system
coordination and a personal commitment to the ideals of the
UN Charter
All accommodation, travel arrangements, medical coverage,
visas and other living expenses will be borne by the intern, or
the sponsoring government or institution. Pulse Lab Jakarta
cannot provide any financial support, and it accepts no
responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness
incurred during the internship.
Interns are strongly advised to get full life and medical
insurance. Pulse Lab Jakarta is not responsible for any claims
by any party where the loss of or damage to their property,
death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omission
of action by the interns during their internship.
Individuals who undertake an internship at Pulse Lab Jakarta
are subject to an internal evaluation. Pulse Lab Jakarta retains
all rights to reject candidates who are not performing
adequately, and without prior notice, including to their
educational institutions.
Pulse Lab Jakarta cannot guarantee any employment
whatsoever after completion of the internship.
Interns must state clearly in their application form whether or
not the internship is compulsory in light of their studies. If so,
the responsible tutor at the university needs to submit a formal
letter supporting the request. He/she will be briefed and will be
sent an evaluation at the end of the internship.
If granted a position, interns must contact the office two
weeks prior to the confirmed date of assignment by email to
remind staff of their arrival.
Professional appearance is expected at all times. Failure to
comply with these rules can result in the cancellation of the
internship.
Interns are not supposed to publish any information
they get access to during their internship (unless it's
public information, available on the Global Pulse
website).
Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official
in the receiving office, [interns] may not communicate
at any time to the media or to any institution, person,
Government or any other external party any information

that has become known to them by reason of their


association with the United Nations or the receiving
office, that they know or ought to have known has not
been made public. Moreover, interns may not use any
such information without the written authorization of
the appropriate official, and such information may never
be used for personal gain. These obligations also apply
after the end of the internship with the United Nations;

Eligibility
The Internship period is for a minimum of six weeks initially and this
can be extended to a maximum of six months contingent on
performance, availability and the mutual agreement of the intern
and the Pulse Lab Jakarta office.
Prospective interns are expected to be in their third year above of
study (for national interns) and enrolled in a graduate school in any
of the following fields: International Relations Political studies,
Communication, Journalism, Information Technology, Information
Management, International Law, and or other relevant subjects.
Prospective interns should have these qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills;


Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals
of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs;
Team player;
Ability to take initiative and work independently within the
overall team;
Fluency in spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia
(for national interns);
Sound literacy in office applications (desktop, web based,
mobile, cloud), social media, online blogs.

FAQs
Q: Will I be informed of the receipt of my application?
A: No. We will only contact selected candidates.

Q: Is a CV enough for an application? What do I need for the


application?
A: No. Please notice that, with the application form, you need to
submit letter from university confirming current enrollment, letter of
endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly
supervised the student, university transcript, a copy of valid medical
insurance and life insurance.
Q: Is there a difference between a voluntary and a compulsory
internship?
A: Yes there is. If the internship is compulsory, the responsible tutor
at the university needs to submit a formal letter supporting the
request. He/she will be briefed and will be sent an evaluation at the
end of the internship.
Q: Should I contact PLJ to check the status of my application?
A: No. You will be informed about the outcome of the results as son
as the selection process is finalized. The decision-making process
may vary from case to case. However, any change in address, email or telephone number should be provided as soon as possible.
Q: How soon may I be informed about the outcome of my
application?
A: It varies from case to case and from the volume of applications
we receive.
Q: Does an internship give credit for my studies?
A: Check with your university/education institution.
Q: What kind of skills are you looking for?
A: Very good editorial and analytical skills, excellent communication
and interpersonal skills, a genuine interest in big data, international
politics and institutions such as the United Nations, ability to
organize events, research project information, and analyze data.
Q: Do I get a certificate?
A: Yes, selected candidates who have successfully completed a
Pulse Lab Jakarta (PLJ) internship receive a certificate stating the
period of the internship at PLJ, signed by UNDP Human Resources
Manager.
Q: What nationalities can apply?
A: The PLJ internship programme is primarily aimed to Indonesian
nationals, but small number of international interns is also accepted.

Q: What type of visa do I need for a PLJ internship?


A: PLJ interns must have a valid visa to stay in Indonesia and
complete their internship. Please contact us for more details.
Q: What kind of job will I be requested to do?
A: You will be tasked with a very diverse range of responsibilities,
including compiling news clippings and headlines, updating contact
list, assisting the Pulse Lab Jakarta team, researching project
information, and other logistical support to the office on a wide
range of issues.
Q: When is the normally starting date of my internship?
A: Internships start the first of the month.
Q: What is the duration of the internship?
A: Internships last a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6
months. Period can be extended based upon satisfaction and needs
of the office within the allowed internship period. All interns receive
security briefing.
Q: Can I do a part-time internship?
A: Internships are normally on a full-time basis. Part-time internship
is allowed with a minimum of 3 working days per week
Q: What is the procedure for cancelling of refusing the internship
offer?
A: Selected applicants must notify the internship coordinator
whether they will accept the internship or not, no later than two
weeks after receipt the written offer form UNDP Human Resources.
Q: Are there internships with other agencies available?
A: Other UN agencies, funds and programmes in Indonesia might
have separate internship arrangements. Students interested in
internships in organizations or offices other than PLJ should contact
the respective office directly for further information.
Q: Can I get any financial support from UN?
A: Internships at the Pulse Lab Jakarta (PLJ) are not paid. All
expenses connected with the internship will have to be borne by the
intern or any sponsoring institution.
Q: Do I need to have a health insurance plan?
A: We highly recommend having valid health insurance covering
your medical expenses in Indonesia and valid life insurance.

Q: What are my chances of employment at the United Nations after


the internship?
A: The PLJ internship programme is not related to employment in the
United Nations. There should be no expectation of employment
within the UN System in Indonesia after an internship.
