Gauge: Before felting: 14 sts using needles size 6 mm =

Using needles size 6 mm and red yarn, cast on 3 sts on 3
dpn each (= 9 sts). Work in rnds *K 1 on one needle, 1 yo*,
rep *- * 2 times (= 12 sts). Divide sts on 6 needles, 2 sts on
each needle. Cont working in rnds, and make1 yo end of
each needle every 2nd row until the work is completed.
Stripes:
Cont working with red yarn until you have 10 sts on each
needle.
Change to light green, and work until you have 15 sts on
each needle.
Change to dark red, and work until you have 23 sts on each
needle.
Change to dark green, and work until you have 28 sts on
each needle.
Change to red, and work until you have 31 sts on each
needle.
Change to grey, and work until you have 36 sts on each

FELTING
Wash the piece in a washing machine, in 40-60C fine
wash program, adding small amount mild detergent.
Bigger objects felt more than smaller ones. Wash
smaller pieces together with a towel or pair of jeans.
Stretch your work into measurement and shape it while
still damp. Afterwards it can be washed in wool wash
program. Different washing machines produce different
kind of felting result, test first with a swatch.

Using needles size 7 mm and light beige yarn, cast on 26
sts. Work back and forth in Garter st. Inc 1 st at each edge
inside selvage sts every 2nd row until you have altog. 68 sts
on a row. Cont working back and forth in Garter st until
work measures approx. 27 cm (10.6 in) (measured from
cast-on edge). Dec1 st at each edge inside selvage sts beg
of every row until 26 sts rem. Bind off rather loosely.
Weave in all ends on WS.
Felting: See 1113-1
Eyes:
Using crochet hook size 3 mm and black yarn, work as
foll:
Make a finger lock, fasten with 1 sl st, 6 sc into ring.
1st rnd: Ch1, 2 sc to each st, end with 1 sl st.
2nd rnd: Same as 1st rnd.
3rd rnd: Ch1, * 1 sc, 2 sc to next st* , rep *-* across the rnd,
end with 1 sl st.
4th rnd: Ch1, * 2 sc, 2 sc to next st*, rep *-* across the rnd,
end with 1 sl st.
Break yarn, and draw through last st.
Weave in all ends on WS.

Sew eyes on ready-felted seat mat. Using white yarn,


embroider 2 rows of stem sts around the eyes. Embroider
mouth and nose with stem sts in black.
Make 5 pompons for hair rolls using red Sportsgarn (all
in same color), diameter approx. 5 cm (2 in).
Sew them on top and on slanting sides, 1 in the mid, and 2
on each side (see photo).

SLIPPERS
Using needles size 7 mm and green yarn for woman (or
grey for girl), cast on 48-50-54-60-66-74 sts. Work back
and forth 10-12-12-16-20-22 rows in Garter st. Cont
working with green yarn (change to pink for girl), and work
28-32-40-52-60-68 rows in Garter st over 8-10-12-14-1618 mid sts. Pick or knit up 15-17-21-27-31-35 sts along
each side of the slipper, and work 6-8-10-12-14-16 rows in
Garter st over all sts (= 78-84-96-114-128-144 sts). Change
to grey yarn for girl 2 rows before starting dec. Dec as foll:
K2tog, K32-34-39-47-53-60, K2tog, K6-8-10-12-14-16 (=
front), K2tog, K32-34-39-47-53-60, K2tog. Rep dec every
2nd row (1 st less between side dec, and 2 sts less between
mid front sts) 2-2-2-2-3-3 times. Rep dec every row until

Motif on top of the foot: Using crochet hook size 5 mm,
make 3 motifs, (see earlier in the instruction), 1st motif is
worked as 3rd rnd for motif mid front, and 2 others as3rd
rnd for rest of the motifs. Sew the 3 motifs tog into a band.
Sole: Using crochet hook size 4 mm, ch7 (7).
1st row: Turn with ch1, 1 sc to each st = 7 (7) sc.
2nd row: Turn with ch1, 1 sc to each st, but inc 1 st to first
and last st = 9 (9) sc.
Rep 1st -2nd row until you have altog. 17 (19) sc on a row.
Cont working in sc without inc, turn each time with ch1.
When sole measures approx. 23 (25) cm (9.1 (9.8) in), dec
1 st at each edge every 2nd row until 7 (7) sc rem.
Sole measures approx. 28 (31) cm 11 (11 (12.2) in). Break
yarn.
Slipper: Worked using crochet hook size 5 mm. First dc

Cont working without dec until work measures approx. 29

Finishing: Join motif band to the slipper, work as foll, beg
from side nearest to you. Using crochet hook size 4 mm,
work in sc. Turn, and work for the edge as foll: *ch4, skip

Sew mid back seam.
Work 1 row sc to the upper edge of the slipper, work for
