Warm up:
Aims: -to relax the classroom atmosphere;
-to mark the absentees;
-to revise the vocabulary related to books;
-to announce the title of the lesson;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T;
Techniques: question-answer; discussion; visualization; explanations; brainstorming;
Timing: 5;
Procedure: - greeting; marking the absentees; checking the homework, if necessary;
-T draws a circle on the blackboard and asks the students to say the first words that come to their
mind while thinking about books asking them some questions: -Do you read?Do you like
books? Whats your favourite book?Why do you read? Why is reading important? T writes
down the best answers: we read for : information, interest. pleasure/ enjoyment, homework/
schoolwork; -reading is important because we learn new/ interesting things, it develops our
imagination and creativity, it develops our language skills;
T announces the title of the lesson, writes it on the blackboard and explains it;
Activity 1: Lead- in:
Aims: - to introduce the Ss. into the atmosphere of the lesson;
- to raise the Ss interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to make predictions about what the text is about;
Techniques: question-answer; discussion; prediction;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T; I-W;
Timing: 2;
Procedure: T asks the students to look at the pictures from exercise 1 on page 42 and asks them a
few questions about what they think the people are doing.
Activity 2: Reading- introducing the new vocabulary items
Aims: -to develop reading and pronunciation skills;
- to discover and infer the meanings of the unknown words from the context;
- to introduce the new vocabulary;
-to scan the texts and find specific information;

- to check the SS comprehension of the context through comprehension questions;


-to check if the students have understood the newly acquired vocabulary items;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; G-W;
Techniques: silent reading; discovery techniques; scanning, question-answer; discussion; selfcorrection; peer-to-peer correction;
Timing: 25;
Procedure: T asks SS to solve exercise 1 from their worksheet. In order to do so, they have to
scan the texts and find the correct answers in order to complete the sentences. They have to work
in pairs.
Activity 3: Post- Reading: follow-up tasks:
Aims: -to practice the newly acquired vocabulary items;
- to check if the students have understood the newly acquired vocabulary items and if they
can use them properly in context;
Interaction: T-SS; SS-T; P-W;
Techniques: writing, discussion, question-answer;
Time: 15;
Procedure: T asks the students to solve exercise 2 in pairs.
Giving Homework:
Time: 3
T. asks students to solve exercise 1 c as homework and explains what they have to do. T. gives
thanks to the students for their participation, praises all the SS, especially the good ones.
