Project Scope:
ZoNG is China Mobile's brand in Pakistan. China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak) is a 100% subsidiary of
China Mobile. China Mobile's first overseas operation came about when it acquired a license from
Millicom to operate a GSM network in Pakistan. CMPak markets its products under the brand name
"ZoNG". CMPak has invested more than US$ 700 million in the telecom sector in Pakistan and an
additional US$ 800 million will be invested till the end of year 2008.
The GSM Backhaul Network for CMPAK will use the C-Band satellite. CMPAK has chosen to operate
this network on standard C-Band transponder frequency on the satellite. The proposed network shall
use Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) satellite access mechanism.
In order to minimize the use of the satellite bandwidth the network is using Comtech EFDatas
revolutionary DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier system. Carrier-in-Carrier is based on Applied Signal
Technologys DoubleTalk, which uses Adaptive Cancellation, a patent pending technology that
allows full duplex satellite links to transmit concurrently in the same segment of transponder
bandwidth. The result is reduction in the occupied satellite bandwidth by up to 50% depending on
the link configuration.

Project Scope:
Federal Board of Revenue Pakistan, a full-fledged Revenue Division under the Ministry of Finance
Pakistan signed a service contract for the provision of Wireless MAN connectivity links for its
connectivity of its Karachi offices on different 17 locations including one central location. Netsat has
displaced three of its competitors and got awarded with the entire network on turnkey basis. This
contract has featured with a solution, which replaces widely separated stand alone old
technologies radios with a highly specified new wireless technology at the central location & remote
offices to maximum utilization.

Point to Point T1/E1 Links
The AirMux is a point-to-point multiplexer aggregating fractional E1 and Ethernet traffic

over a 2.6 Mbps full duplex wireless link, extending data/voice transmission up to 25 miles
(40 Km). The AirMux can transmit a full E1/T1 (2 Mbps) of Ethernet traffic or a combination
of fractional E1/T1 and Ethernet using direct sequence spread spectrum (W -CDMA), which
also enhances security.
The unique capabilities of the AirMux in transporting both Ethernet/IP and TDM traffic over
a wireless link make it ideal for a variety of applications, including:

A hotspot is any location where Wi -Fi broadband network access is made publicly
available through a WLAN. Hotspots are often located in heavily populated places and
typically have a short range of access.
Hotspots are often found at restaurants, train stations, airports, libraries, coffee shops,
bookstores, fuel stations, department stores, supermarkets and other public places. Many
universities and schools have wireless networks in their campus.
Technically speaking, hotspots consist of one or several wireless access points installed

IMPLEMENTATION
The major milestones in the network implementation are discussed in the following sections:
PROJECT MANAGER MEET ING
After the signing of service agreements, a meeting will be conducted by the NETSAT team with the
technical representatives of the customers to finalize the implementation schedule and the testing
plan to meet the deadline set by the customer.
SITE SURVEY
The first step in the installation procedure is to conduct the site surveys. The NETSAT Engineering
team will generate a site survey report. This report will then be provided to customer. Based on the
recommendation of the site survey and the agreement with the customer, the site for the Satellite
Dish, Radio Modem antenna and other equipment installation will be finalized.
A list of items that will be required from the customer at each site are as follows:
220 V AC commercial AC power in the equipment room
An Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) source.
Generator backup for the commercial AC source
Air conditioning to maintain a stable room temperature environment
Help in selecting the site for the Indoor and outdoor equipment
Help in laying the cable ducts, power cable and the grounding cable
Lighting protection grid, Communication ground
SITE PREPARATION
Once the customer gives its approval for the recommendations made in the site survey report, site
preparation work will commence. The ta sk for preparing the site includes civil works for
preparation of the Satellite Dish and Radio Modem antenna; laying ducts for the cable, cable
routing. The Field Engineers from NETSAT will carry all of these tasks. NETSAT will have to arrange for
any permission that may be required for civil works. The site preparation tasks will be carried out at
all the customer sites according to a mutually agreed schedule.
EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION
The placement of the equipment will be decided as per the mutual consent, NETSAT engineers will
install all equipment.
INTEGRATION
Once the radio modem is completely installed and all the necessary site preparation has been
completed the communication links will have to be integrated with the network. This will involve
installation, configuration, integration or interfacing of routers and associated network
components. The integration of network components and applications requires specialized skills.
NETSAT integration team is fully trained and experienced in implementing network solutions of the
nature proposed and configuring the system as per the following customer requirements.
TRAINING
Before handing over the project to the customer NETSAT team leader will provide the 2 days
training to customers IT department team along with complete configuration manual, covering
the following topic:
Overview of SCPC VSAT Networks
Operational Theory of Satellite Networks (SCPC VSAT / MFTDMA/TDMA)
Quick overview of Installation, Support & Maintenance Procedures
Overview of Spread Spectrum Radio Networks
Theory of Operations of Spread Spectrum Radio Networks

NETWORK MAINTENANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE

In order to ensure a high quality of maintenance and technical support services, NETSAT has been
trained for several measures involving preventive maintenance, fault escalation, service standards
and technical installations.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
To ensure smooth operations of the network at all levels, several preventive maintenance measures
will be adopted. This will include:
Outdoor installations will be properly protected against adverse weather conditions and
interference from external sources.
Bi-monthly visit will be paid to the customer premises to monitor network performance. In these
visits, NETSAT engineers will note the monitoring status of the commenced link such as signal
strength, instantaneous BER (Bit Error Rate) etc., whereas at the router end, running traffic on the
interfaces, CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors and other parameters will be verified that can
help in analyzing the network performance. The results of these visits will be documented and
signed by the customer
Every three months, a detailed check will be carried out at different points of the network to
Thoroughly certify that no performance degradation has occurred at any level in the network.
Reliability and stability of power supply and electrical grounding is very critical for the entire
network. However, if any such incidence is found, immediate remedial measures will be taken to
avoid any disruption in online connectivity.
FAULT ESCALATION
In the event of fault in any customer network, NETSAT has service 24 hours / day and 7 days/week
customer support countrywide (Islamabad & Karachi) and implemented a standard procedure for
fault escalation. Within two hour of a fault report, our 2nd level support engineers will be made
available for the customer support.
This is the technical structure / hierarchy of NETSAT. We have 4 levels of reporting and solving
clients problems with complete dedication. For all support issues or requirements customer are
first motivated to contact Level 1 staff. If Level 1 did not respond or resolve the problem within 30
minutes then escalate to Level 2 and above. Customers are encouraged to send an email to
document the request.
BACKUP & REDUNDANCY MECHANISM
TURN AROUND TIME
NETSAT undertakes that the downtime for equipment maintenance will be for a maximum period
of two hours during normal office hours. In case the breakdown occurs at night or on normal or
government holidays, the equipment downtime will be maximum 24 hours. NETSAT will extend
maintenance service 24 hours / day and 7 days/week with backup equipment and facilities to the
Customer. For servicing remote area locations, a NETSAT engineer will report within two hours of call
logging to the customer office.
