ACON general information

ACON is an integrated automation system for control and monitoring of ship equipment and
machinery. Tailor-made graphical pictures on a windows based man-machine interface, displays
necessary information and makes the system easy to operate. ACON can be delivered as stand-alone
or as a Integrated Computer System. ACON can have interface to other system.

Hardware
Workstations
ACON is a multi-user system where each workstation operate independently. By use of a multiscreen system, each station can include two colour monitors. This option makes it easier for the
operator to operate several systems simultaneously. Necessary fail-safe-logic prevents dangerous
situations to occur due to a faulty operation.
Each Workstation can include :
Maritime PC
One or two colour monitors
One or two network card

Network
Workstations and electronic units are linked together in an Ethernet network. The network can be
built on twisted pair or fiber optic, single or redundant, star or ring network. The system can also
contain sub networks for communication with other automation systems.
Sub Network
Modbus protocol on Ethernet or Serial lines.

ACON Alarm and Monitoring

ACON Alarm and Monitoring system is the ship's alarm and surveillance system giving information
to the operator about the machinery equipment's condition.
Text based and graphical tailor-made pictures give a complete overview of the different systems. By
use of symbols and alarm texts appearing on strategic locations on the screen, abnormalities are
easily detected. A straight forward menu system makes it easy to select among all existing pictures.
Easy to change between day and night palettes.
Features
Decentralized Applications
Decentralized I/O
Up to 6 pc. alarm limits (2pc. of them are pre-warnings)
Alarm Summary
Event log
Historical trending
On-line configuration and calibration
Serial interface to external sub systems (i.e. Main Engines, Seismic compressors etc.)
Groups
255 configurable groups make the system flexible, and give the opportunity to locate each alarm in a
display group, bridge group and other groups for individual functionality.

Alarm panels
Depending on the system configuration, alarm panels can be located in the engine control room, on
bridge, and in different cabins and rooms in the accommodation. Panels are connected to the ACON
network for data exchange. Local alarm panel can be mounted in the cabinets, and will act as backup.
Each panel consists of an touch screen and a buzzer.
Features
All information is common for all panels
Display of alarms

Each panel's software defines the functionality and the limitations depending on the system
configuration.
Dead Man System
A Dead Man System with separate panels can be interfaced as the engineer's safety system. The
panels which are hardwired to the main cabinet, are equipped with LEDs, soft-keys and a buzzer.

ACON Pump and Valve Control

ACON Pump and Valve Control is the ship's control and overview system for cargo handling and/or
machinery systems.
Tanks and piping systems are displayed by graphical tailor-made mimic diagrams, ensuring ease of
operation. An integrated solution combining this system with other ACON systems, gives the
opportunity to control and overview simultaneously from several Workstations. A straightforward
menu system makes it easy to select among all existing pictures.
Features
General start/stop control (pumps, compressors, agitators, etc.)
Auto-suction - pump protection
Valve operation (open/close)
Control of proportional valves
Flow meter - reading and calculations
Read-outs of temperatures and pressures
Economy - consumption calculations

ACON Tank Sounding

ACON Tank Sounding system is the ship's tank level gauging system. For level measuring electro
pneumatic tank equipment can be used as well as electronic sensors. Tank information is normally
transferred to external computers, but an operator panel located in the main electronic cabinet is
taking care of local and emergency sounding.
Electro pneumatic:
The functionality is based on well-proven technology combined with modern electronics. Electro
pneumatic sequential level measuring is accurate and reliable, and provides a comprehensive range of
data for optimal surveillance. To reduce the need of maintenance, the tank equipment is specially
designed to match the various liquids and the rough operating conditions.
Electronic sensors:
Electronic sensors, tank radars or similar can be connected directly to input modules on the
Application CPU unit. Tanks are sounded sequentially or controlled in remote.
Features
Sequential tank measurements
Single tank measurements
Stand By mode (Air save modus)
Depth, Trim and List measurements
Automatic density measurements
On-line configuration (density, prewarning limits, tank tables, calibrations, etc.)
Outputs for electronic sounding indicators (level, m,%)
Prewarning outputs for external equipment
Interface to load calculator
Interface to external computers (automation systems)
Tank data read-outs

Air bells
Three major kinds of Air Bells are available for the different types of liquids:
Low viscosity - Air bell with non-return-valve for installation inside the tank. (Stainless steel)
High viscosity - Empty air bell for installation inside the tank with an additional non-returnvalve mounted on tank top. (Stainless steel)
Mud or similar - Empty air bell for installation on bulk head outside the tank with an additional
non-return-valve mounted at tank top. Cleaning of air bell is possible without
entering the tank.

CONTROL CONSOLES
All control consoles are made of steel performed with all cut-outs, primed and etched upon customers
request. All equipment supplied from RRM AS will be mounted as well as equipment from other
manufacturers when supplied directly to our factory. Dimensions and terminal details of equipment to
be fitted at the shipyard are required to be supplied to ourselves. Consoles are supplied with handrails
and suitably sized doors to provide ease of access. The consoles are prewired where possible with all
termination at a terminal strip located to provide ease of connection for external cables. Cable trays
and grounding facilities are also provided.
Rolls-Royce Marine AS makes complete drawings of the consoles. Yard has the opportunity to alter
the consoles lay out until production starts, without extra cost.
