Once the Office or DMS installation is complete, your computer/server is ready for the Metadata
Assistant installation package.

Upgrading Metadata Assistant Version

At this time, only builds of the Metadata Assistant v. 4.1 that were released between January 1,
2014 and April 1, 2014 are candidates for in-place upgrades for versions released during that
same time period. If you are running a newer version or are upgrading to a build released after
April 2, 2014, you will need to first uninstall the version currently on your workstation before
installing the latest available build.

Note About Metadata Assistant Version 3

Metadata Assistant version 3 is supported to the extent of the last code base which was released
in May 2013. As of June 2013, a hard code freeze is in effect for Metadata Assistant version 3.
Releases are finalized, and all end-of-cycle changes are documented in the Release Notes for
build 3.1.1305.1612. No new modules, new features or bug fix requests will be accepted for
version 3.

Instructions
Alternate Installation Package Format
The Metadata Assistant default format is an .exe file which bundles in the required Microsoft
components. However, if you prefer to use an .msi file format, this can be extracted from the
setup .exe file.
1. Open the user's system Temp directory (%temp%). Keep this window open and visible.
2. Start the Metadata Assistant .exe installation file by using one of the following methods:
Double-click the file
Use a command line
3. In the Temp folder you will now see three temporary folders that follow a Product ID (GUID)
naming convention.

4. Open each of these folders. One will contain the .msi installation file. The name of the file will
be either MA4Enterprise.msi or MA4Retail.msi.
5. Copy and save the .msi to a separate location for use at a later time.
6. Cancel the installation once the .msi is extracted.

7. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of the install.

Important Notes

If the User Access Control (UAC) is enabled, we advise that you install the .msi files in
elevated mode. The .msi files are supported per-machine and require administrator
privileges to deploy them.
You must ensure that the programs prerequisites are installed prior to running the .msi. It is
recommended you download these directly from the Microsoft website and install them
before executing the.msi.

Refer to page 3 of this document for information about the required Microsoft components.

You can use the standard Microsoft Windows Installer switches to execute the .msi. For a list
of these, type msiexec.exe in the Command line or the Run line.
