Activating SIGTRAN for the A interface in the BSC

The instructions below are for activating SIGTRAN for the A interface without
migrating from MTP. If you are migrating from MTP to SIGTRAN, see Migrating
from MTP to SIGTRAN in the BSC.
The following figure shows the IP addressing details for a sample configuration with
symmetric network layout. The configuration in the figure with two BCSU-BSC pairs is
only an example: in the BSC, you must set an association for all BCSUs because all
capacity needs to be configured by default.

Figure 2:
Example configuration of SIGTRAN for the A interface
Before you start
Make sure that the following procedures have been completed before you activate
SIGTRAN for the A interface:
The hardware is correctly installed and the interfaces have been created according to
1.
the instructions in BSS Integration.
The interfaces have been created as planned in BSC Site IP Connectivity Guidelines,

Operating Instructions.

Steps

1.

Create logical IP addresses for the BCSUs (QRN).

Create logical IP addresses for the BCSUs (QRN).

Assign an IP address to each available Ethernet interface. Multihoming requires
the allocation of IP addresses from separate subnets in the BCSU.
If a BCSU already has an IP address for the BSC-BSC interface, the same
1 address can be used at the A interface. For information on the BSC-BSC
interface, see Connecting and Testing BSC-BSC Interface

ZQRN:BCSU,0::EL1:10.1.3.52,L,:28:UP::;
ZQRN:BCSU,1::EL0:10.1.3.37,L,:28:UP::;
ZQRN:BCSU,1::EL1:10.1.3.53,L,:28:UP::;

2.

Define the default routes (QKC or QKM).

Define the default routes (QKC or QKM).

You can configure a default route either as a static route (QKC) or as default
gateway configuration with a local IP address (QKM).
The recommended configuration is the static route configuration.

As a static route:
ZQKC:BCSU,0:: 10.16.143.64,26: 10.1.3.33:LOG:;
ZQKC:BCSU,1:: 10.16.143.64,26: 10.1.3.33:LOG:;

ZQKC:BCSU,0:: 10.16.143.128,26: 10.1.3.49:LOG:;

ZQKC:BCSU,1:: 10.16.143.128,26: 10.1.3.49:LOG:;

With a local IP address:

ZQKM:BCSU,0:: 10.1.3.36: 10.1.3.33:LOG:;
ZQKM:BCSU,1:: 10.1.3.37: 10.1.3.33:LOG:;
ZQKM:BCSU,0:: 10.1.3.52: 10.1.3.49:LOG:;

ZQKM:BCSU,1:: 10.1.3.53: 10.1.3.49:LOG:;

3.

Create an association set between the BSC and the MSC (OYC).

Create an association set between the BSC and the MSC (OYC).
Create an association set for the A interface connection to the MSC. In the
3 association ( AMSC1), the BSC is the client: the BSC starts negotiating for an
association and the MSC is waiting for the negotiation.

4.

Add associations to the AMSC1 association set (OYA).

Add associations to the AMSC1 association set (OYA).

Create associations in the AMSC1 association set. The controlling units of the
association (BCSU-0 and BCSU-1) are in the WO-EX state. The name of the
4 parameter set is SS7.

ZOYA:AMSC1:BCSU,1:SS7:;
You can check the associations that you have added with the OYO command.

5.

Add the SCTP transport addresses to the associations (OYP).

Add the IP addresses of the sources and destinations to the primary and secondary IP
5 paths.
