How to use your WiFi ADSL Modem cum router as a Wireless

access point only

Due to prolonged serviceability of underground cables, recently I was compelled to change my BSNL
broadband connection to WiMax . In WiMax connection the output of CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) is
an Ethernet port, which can be directly connected to PC for accessing internet. To share the connection for
multiple PCs you have to use an additional Wireless Router (For WiFi) or LAN switch. Ive used my spare D
Link 2730- U WiFi router as a Wireless Access Point to convert the WiMax connection to a WiFi .
D Link 2730 U is an ADSL Wireless router with one WiFi port and four LAN ports. If you want to use this
router as a WLAN access point only, the first step is disabling DHCP. For this connect the router with your PC
with WiFi or Ethernet cable. Access the Modem Admin page by enteringhttp://192.168.1.1 in browser
address bar. Use the default user id admin and password admin.

Go to the LAN sub menu under Advanced Setup. By default the DHCP server is enabled. Here you have
to Disable the DHCP server. After disabling the setting save it and reboot the router.

Now you can connect Ethernet input cable to one of the four LAN ports of the router. Internet connection on this
port will be bridged to other three ports as well as WiFi port. Now the device is converted as a simple WiFi
access point. You may be required to enter the IP to your WLAN/Ethernet adaptor of PC/Laptop to establish
connectivity (If the network shows Limited Connectivity) See the image. In my case the default IP address of
the WiMax CPE is 192.168.0.254 which is used as default gateway.

Here I didnt changed the default IP address of the ADSL router (192.168.1.1) just used the router as a bridge
only. The same method is applicable to other routers also. Here the points to Note:

Get the IP range of the connection which you want to extend. (Connect to network, in
command prompt enter ipconfig /all. You will get the IP address and the connected default
gateway).

To avoid IP conflict, change the IP address of your WiFi router in the same range.

Disable DHCP and NAT settings of WiFi Router

Connect the input to one of the LAN ports.

cool thanks but still I cant access wifi in my mobile or in a tablet.Even its working with laptop but not in

How to use username/password (I used BSNL earlier and now I shifted to YOU broadband) ?
I cant enter it in Wifi.
Would it work if I change it in WAN (pppoe) connection?

using this method my wimax wifi password has been disabled , also couldnt able to access the modem admin
page.Plz suggest to set the wifi password.

Onlyway to go to your modem admin page.
Go ahead and reset the modem. then you will be able to access the modem admin page.

the way you showed to turn the ADSL Wifi router into DSL Wifi router, if i follow that, will i be able to get wifi or
only can use the other three lan ports? or both?

Hi, I am having the D Link 2730- U ADSL modem. I have done all the changes mentioned in the article. But
after rebooting the modem, the internet indicator light in not glowing and I am unable to access the internet after
setting the IP on my laptop.
Please let me know if I am missing something. It will be great if someone can provide all the steps.

I want to share my internet connection with my mobile & pc laptop and would prefer to make use of D-Link
2750u ADSL2 modem/wireless router. As this routers incoming port is specifically for ADSL my internet RJ45
cable can not plug into it. I have been advised that I can still utilise the router part of the D-Link though, using
my PC as an access point, by plugging the ethernet cable from the PC side of the little black box (WIMAX
Adeptar ) into LAN 1 on the router, then joining the PC to LAN 2 of the router with another ethernet cable.
after Disable DHCP service on your modem/router i am able to use internet acess through left LAN ports
modem/router with WIMAX bt m nt able to have internet acess over wireless network of modem/router
sir plz resolve my prob. i will be very thankfull to u.?

hey thanks man,

I have the same router as yours.
After disabling DHCP i was able to use it as a Wifi router for my PC, but then also i have to dial up after starting
my PC. So thus i cannot use my smart phone for internet access.
Could you tell how to make sure the router itself dials the connection, so that i can use internet on my phone

Thanks buddy I was searching same topic for last one week I live in vadodra Gujarat and here not much option
for landlind line broband but there are many option in wimax in which one cable come to your house and which
can directly connect to computer lan but I want to ask one thing more my wimax is dailup so is there any
chance I have to do
