doctor.

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

INTRODUCTION
Hi, Im Dr Romy Paredes, an A-B-normal, offthe-grid medical doctor he he.
I was trained as a medical doctor in one of the
biggest training hospitals in the country. For almost
10 years, from pre-medical school to medical school, I
have learned the art of prescribing, the art of treating
symptoms, the art of segregating a human body into
different parts(the heart specialty of cardiologists, the
kidney specialty of nephrologists, the lungs specialty
of pulmonologists, the liver and stomach specialty of
gastroenterologists, the brain specialty of neurologists).
I have also learned the art of segregating the
human body into disease classifications.(cancer
specialty of oncologists, diabetes and thyroid disorders
specialty of endocrinologists, skin disorders specialty
of dermatologists, auto-immune diseases and allergies
specialty of allergologists, infections specialty of
infectious disease specialists).
And so on and so forth.
But how about specializing the whole human
being?
How is it called?
General practitioner?
7

Introduction

But even general practitioners still end up in the

culture of prescribing. What do I mean?
Friends, have you been to a doctor lately?
What words do you see in the prescription pad?
Words of strategies on how to take charge of our
health or just a litany of drugs to take? Think about it.
So are you ready to be your own doctor?
Are you ready to take charge of your health?
Are you ready to be the driver of your health?
Are you ready to begin the journey of learning to
be your own doctor?
Are you ready to start a medical education by
yourself for yourself and your loved ones?
Are you ready to take part in a revolution?
A revolution of self health education!
A revolution of self-health empowerment!
A revolution that will lead to the new health care
system.a system that is self-empowering, a system
that brings back the glory of the divine design of human
beings to heal by themselves.

CHAPTER 1

Searching for Higher

Levels of Truths
In my journey towards the so called less
travelled road of medicine, i gradually opened
my mind to the fundamentals, to the bottomlines.
So what are these so called bottomlines?
What are these so called fundamentals?
I will lay down to you the 4 basic fundamentals, the 4
bottomlines.
If you understand and grasp these bottomlines,
then you can possibly put yourself on a journey towards
your health freedom.
If you understand and grasp these bottomlines,
then you can become the best doctor of yourself.
One of my life mentors, Albert Einstein(though I never
met him he he) once said....Genius lies in making the
complicated simple.
Ten years of medical school(from pre-med to medproper) have bombarded us with lots of informations....
from anatomy to physiology to biochemistry to
pharmacology.
I have learned all these complexities in those 10
years of medical school, but what i learned after med
9

Chapter 1: Searching for Higher Levels of Truths

school when i decided to walk the less travelled road of

medicine is wisdom.
I learned and gained the wisdom of health through
an open mind, a hunger for higher levels of truth, and
the courage to drop what no longer made sense.
Indeed, when it comes to knowledge, something is
being added everyday, but when it comes to wisdom,
something is being dropped everyday.
I have a few questions for you.
Who made us?
Who designed us?
Who created us?
Doctors did not make us. Doctors guide us(yes),
but do we get the right guidance that is in line with
nature, that is in line with the divine design?
Hospitals did not make us.
Drugstores did not make us.
The pharmaceutical industry did not make us.
From the best medical textbook I have ever read(The
Bible). We are created in the image and likeness of
GOD.
Yes we are indeed divinely designed to heal by
ourselves.
God made us. Period.
So my friends, are you ready to know these
bottomlines? Keep your minds open and wide and be
like a sponge to accept these bottomlines.

CHAPTER 2

The Bottom Line

Causes of Illness
Sometime ago, when i was still in medical school, i
learned and memorized as part of my medical education
all the diseases of the human body.
These diseases range from the most simple to the
most complicated......
common
colds
asthma
allergy
hypertension
diabetes
systemic lupus erythematosus(this is an example
of a medical jargon that most people dont understand
cancer
The above are just examples of the hundreds of
diseases that could possibly afflict a human body.
After learning all these diseases, we end to the
bottomline question....what are the causes of these
diseases?
11

Chapter 2: The Bottom Line Causes of Illness

The 2 bottomline root causes of diseases

1. Toxicity
This means something is there in your body that is
not supposed to be there. In Filipino, merong nandyan
na wala dapat dyan
2. Deficiency
This means something is not there in your body (or
is there but not enough) that is supposed to be there.
In Filipino, merong wala dyan na dapat andyan, or
meron dyan pero kulang
TOXICITY
There are 2 types of toxicity, physical toxicity and
energy toxicity.
What is physical toxicity?
This means the body is loaded with toxins
like preservatives in the food and drinks(vetsin,
food colourings, chemical food additives, etc) and
environmental pollutants (like smoke emitted from
factories, toxic heavy metals like lead from gasoline,
toxic heavy metal like mercury from polluted fish, etc)
What is energy toxicity?
This means the body is loaded with toxins
like expired anger(bitterness), unforgiveness and
environmental energy toxins like geopathic stress(from
radiations emitted from electromagnetic gadgets like
microwave ovens, cell sites, etc)
12

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

DEFICIENCY
There are 2 types of deficiency, physical deficiency
and energy deficiency.
What is physical deficiency?
This means the body is lacking in its real fuel..
nutrients from fruits and vegetables. This is also called
nutritional deficiency. Almost all nutrients needed by
the body can be accessed through a plant based diet.
What is energy deficiency?
This means the body is lacking in positive energies
like love, positive self esteem, purpose, etc. This could
also mean that the body is lacking in sunlight, exercise,
rest, peace of mind, etc.

13

Chapter 2: The Bottom Line Causes of Illness

I learned in my alma mater

(UP College of Medicine) a
lot of therapeutics(treatment
methods for diseases)
but mostly on treating the
symptoms. Indeed, there is a
very wide difference between
treating the symptoms and
treating the root cause.

CHAPTER 3

The Bottom Line

Solutions to Illness
So if there are 2 bottomline causes of disease, it follows
that there are also 2 bottomline solutions to diseases.
The 2 bottomline solutions to diseases
1. Detoxify/Clean-up
clean the body of unwanted toxins
2. Nourish
nourish the body of its real food, the kind of
food that is provided by nature
DETOXIFY/CLEAN-UP
There are 2 types of cleansing, physical cleansing
and energy cleansing.
What is physical cleansing?
This involves the process of cleansing the
inside of the body through the God-given routes of
detoxification.sweat, urine and stool. Sauna is a form
of detoxification through sweat, water therapy is a form
15

Chapter 3: The Bottom Line Solutions to Illness

of detoxification through urine, and colon enemas is a

form of detoxification through stool.
What is energy cleansing?
This involves the process of cleansing the energy
aura of the body, and this may include pranic healing,
breathing exercises, quantum touch, emotional freedom
techniques(EFT), walking barefoot on ground, hugging
a tree, etc.
NOURISH
There are 2 types of nourishment, physical
nourishment and energy nourishment.
What is physical nourishment?
This includes the intake of foods that are considered
to be the real fuel of the body..the grains, nuts, fruits
and vegetables. According to T.Collin Campbell, a
scientist considered to be a giant in the field of nutrition,
almost all our needed nutrients can be sourced from a
plant based diet.
What is energy nourishment?
This includes nourishment from the energy of
nature(the sun, the air, the trees, or any subtle energy
that can be derived from nature) and energies like love,
gratitude, positive self esteem, etc.

17

Chapter 3: The Bottom Line Solutions to Illness

Let me ask you one more

questionare prescription
pads nowadays loaded with
advise/strategies on treating
the root cause of your
diseases or are they loaded
with prescription drugs that
you have to take for a long
time, if not for the rest of your
life? As the TV advertisement
says.if symptoms persist,
consult your doctor. I would
bravely say.if the root cause
persist, consult yourself!

CHAPTER 4

Treating the
Sumptoms
VS Treating the
Root Cause
Would you like to learn the BIG DIFFERENCE
between treating the symptoms and treating the root
cause?
Would you like to take charge of your health by
focusing on treating the root cause rather than just on
treating the symptoms?
Today, I will share to you one of the most valuable
lessons I have learned in more than a decade of my
medical work.
Sometime ago, when I was still studying medicine
in my alma mater UP College of Medicine, one of
my most favourite subject is pharmacology. I have
learned the hundreds of pharmaceutical drugs from
our voluminous textbooks in pharmacology. I have
learned their indications, their mechanisms of action,
and of course also their side effects. The subject of
19

Chapter 4: Treating the Symptoms VS Treating the Root Cause

pharmacology was actually where I got my highest

grade in medical school. I have memorized so well all
the different generic names of drugs.
During that time, little did I know that sometime
later in my career, Ill be helping people how to get away
or at least minimize their intake of so much drugs.
So what differentiates treating the symptoms from
treating the root cause?
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, then the effect is quick fix and temporary.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, then the effect is long term and long-lasting.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, then you can end up on drug-dependence.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, then you can be drug-free.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, the disease is not cured
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, the disease can be cured.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, you end up in maintenance drugs.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, you end up in maintenance healthy habits.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, the driver of your health is the doctor/the
specialist.
20

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

If the approach to your health is treating the root

cause, the driver of your health is you.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, it is not self-empowering.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, it is self-empowering.
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, it is not in line with nature.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, it is in line with nature
If the approach to your health is treating the
symptoms, it is more costly.
If the approach to your health is treating the root
cause, it is more economical.
And so on and so forth..
To make it more clear, let me give you a few
examples.
Example 1: If I treat the symptoms of hypertension, I
will write in my prescription pad anti-hypertension
drug-1, drug-2, drug-3.
If I treat the root cause of hypertension, I will write
the ff in my prescription pad:
Drink pure calamansi daily(up to 28 pcs daily)/

follow the advise of Bro Bo Sanchez
Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables
Abstain from eating the 3Ms(mamoy, maka,

manok) he he
21

Chapter 4: Treating the Symptoms VS Treating the Root Cause

Drink lots of water daily

Exercise regularly
Smile more often
Manage your stress
Example 2: If I treat the symptoms of hyperacidity, I
will write in my prescription pad antacid-1, antacid-2,
antacid-3.and I might also tell the patient to go for an
endoscopy.
If I treat the root cause of hyperacidity, then I will
write in my prescription pad the ff:
Drink at least 2 liters of water a day
Eat fruits only for breakfast
Eat more alkaline foods like the fruits and
vegetables
Avoid acidic foods like softdrinks, junkfoods,

processed foods, and meat.
Forgive daily(do you know that bitterness can

also cause hyperacidity?)
Friends, do you now see the BIG DIFFERENCE?
Let me ask you one more questionare
prescription pads nowadays loaded with advise/
strategies on treating the root cause of your diseases or
are they loaded with prescription drugs that you have
to take for a long time, if not for the rest of your life?
As the TV advertisement says.if symptoms persist,

CHAPTER 5

The Crucial Role of

Nutrition
I have been a frontliner for more than a decade,
frontliner means I talk to patients everyday.I get
exposed to their frustrations and suffering. Most of the
time, I could feel their HUNGER for a better health care
system.
One time a patient came to mea breast cancer
patient from Bohol. Lets call her Mrs X.
Mrs. X: Dr P pls help me(with a tight grip on my
hands), I have undergone surgery and , was advised to
undergo 6 cycles of chemotherapy. I already finished 1
cycle, but we no longer have money for the succeeding
cycles. We have already sold everything(our farm lot,
our cow, our carabao, our goats, our horse).
Dr P: Oh Mrs X is that so? What else have you not
sold?
Mrs X: (Kaluluwa na lang po doctor ang hindi
namin nabenta)
This is an example of my day to day experience
with the sick and suffering. Being sick have become very
expensive nowadays.
23

Chapter 5: The Crucial Role of Nutrition

The common people can no longer afford the

skyrocketing cost of health care.
Way back in medical school, I can not remember
that cancer is caused by a deficiency of expensive drugs.
What I know is cancer is caused by a deranged immune
system. Some say its genetic.
In fact a lot of common diseases nowadays are
blamed to be genetichypertension, diabetes, cancer,
etc.
Kawawa naman ang genetic, palagi na lang
pinagbibintangan
(I pity genetic, its always being blamed)
bad.

Yes I do not deny that we have genes, good and

But heres a fact that was concluded from one of the

biggest epidemiological studies ever done in the field of
human health.
This study, The China Study, headed by Dr T. Collin
Campbell is a well-researched study with the following
STARTLING findings:
1. Nutrition represents the combined activities of
countless food substances. The whole is greater
than the sum of its parts.
2. Vitamin supplements are not a panacea(cureall) for good health. (They supplement a good
diet, but they can never replace a good diet).
3. There are virtually no nutrients in animal-based
foods that are not better provided by plants.
24

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

4. Genes do not determine disease on their own.

Genes function only by being activated, or
expressed, and nutrition plays a critical role in
determining which genes, good and bad, are
expressed.
5. Nutrition can substantially control the adverse
effects of noxious chemicals.
6. The same nutrition that prevents disease in its
early stages(before diagnosis) can also halt or
reverse disease in its later stages(after diagnosis).
7. Nutrition that is truly beneficial for one chronic
disease will support health across the board.

8. Good nutrition creates health in all areas of our

existence. All parts are interconnected.

With the above findings, nutrition indeed plays

a crucial role in our health. However, nutrition is not
the only thing that we need to take care of as far as our
health is concerned. According to Paul Braggs, also an
authority in the field of health and wellness.we are
what we eat, drink, breathe, think, say and do. Nothing
could be more all-encompassing than that.

25

Chapter 5: The Crucial Role of Nutrition

But when it comes to health,

when something goes wrong,
do we go to our manufacturer?
Do we do things that are in line
with NATURE to fix our health?
Or do we just look for a quick
fix?
Nature made us.
Nature designed us.
So nature is still our best ally!

26

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

CHAPTER 6

Take Charge of Your

Health, or Else
Somebody Will
These
bottomlines(toxicity,
deficiency
and
detoxify, nourish) have been my guiding principles in
my day to day medical practice(....ooopps i no longer
use the word medical practice because it gives the
impression that im just practicing to my patients he he)
So let me say it again....these bottomlines have been my
guiding principles in my day to day medical work of
empowering people to take control of their health.
After being a medical doctor for more than a decade,
I am fully convinced that the best solution to our health
is self-empowerment. We need to take charge of our
health. We need a new health care systema system
that is self-empowering!
Statistics show that there are more diseases today
than ever before.
Statistics show that there are more bypass
procedures done today than ever before.
27

Chapter 6: Take Charge of Your Health, or Else Somebody Will

Statistics show that there are more dialysis

procedures done today than every before.
Statistics show that there are more chemotherapy
procedures done today than ever before.
What do all these mean? It only means one thing
that the health of society is getting sicker.
Why?
Because we continue to entrust our health to
industries.
So what should we do?
Lets take charge of our own health. Let us be brave
to be on the drivers seat of our health. After all, healing
only comes from within.
What does it take to take charge of our health?
It needs two fundamental elements
1.
It needs our trust in nature(after all we are
designed by nature, not by industries)
2.
It also needs our commitment to gradually
develop and implement healthy habits in our
daily activities.
TRUST IN NATURE
Friends, think of this analogy.

28

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

If my Samsung cellphone gets sick, where is the

best place to bring it? Of course to the service center of
Samsung.
If my Acer laptop gets sick, where is the best place
to bring? Of course to the service center of Acer.
If my Sony dvd player gets sick, where is the best
place to bring?
Of course to the service center of Sony.
Do you get what I mean?
In life, it is always like that. We go to the manufacturer
when something goes wrong with our gadgets.
But when it comes to health, when something goes
wrong, do we go to our manufacturer? Do we do things
that are in line with NATURE to fix our health? Or do
we just look for a quick fix?
Nature made us.
Nature designed us.
So nature is still our best ally!
COMMITMENT TO DEVELOP HEALTHY HABITS
Most of our systems nowadays in the current health
care system are of the Mr. Quickie type.
We take drugs to alleviate the symptoms.
We take drugs to lower those numbersthe sugar,
the cholesterol, the uric acid, the blood pressure, etc.
Yes these drugs lower those numbers, but they are
only as good as the last tablet/capsule you took. The next
day, you need to take it againand again, and again.
29

Chapter 6: Take Charge of Your Health, or Else Somebody Will

Thats why its called maintenance drug. You maintain

the drug, but isnt it that the disease is also maintained
and not eradicated? Perhaps the disease is controlled by
the drug, but control is different from cure.
From the patients perspective, the perfect drug
is supposed to be a drug that cures, a drug that ends
the disease. (Especially for chronic conditions like
hypertension and diabetes). But most people with
hypertension and diabetes who are taking maintenance
drugs take their drugs for the rest of their lives.
The problem is theres no such thing. Why? Because
it is not the design of nature.
We get sick slowly(through our unhealthy habits)
and we should also recover slowly(through healthy
habits). This is the design of nature. Nature can not and
can never be fast-forwarded.
For example, if I just planted a corn and I want to
eat it the next day, can I tell the corn to grow fast so that
I can eat it tomorrow? No. I have to wait for 4 months
before I can eat it, because that is the design of nature.
In health, Gods solutions are most of the time long
term. That is the design of nature. Long terms solutions
can only be done through healthy habits.
Our habits are a thousand times more powerful
than our desires. Many people desire to be healthy but
do not develop the habits of becoming healthy.
30

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

We only have 24 hours in a day, and 8 hours of that is

our time in bed. The remaining hours is not that difficult
to fill up with healthy habits one step at a time. One great
guide if you are serious in developing healthy habits is
the 52 healing habits created by Bro Bo Sanchez. Copy and
paste the link if you are interested to learn the 52 healing
habits of Bro Bo Sanchez. (http://bosanchezmembers.
com/amember/go.php?r=1902&i=l3)
Another guide is the so called 8 famous doctors. I
promote this in my daily medical work, but just for you
to have an idea about these 8 famous doctors, here they
are:
1. Dr Sunshine
2. Dr Exercise
3. Dr Healthy Natural Food
4. Dr Pure Water
5. Dr Fresh Air
6. Dr Fasting
7. Dr Human Mind
8. Dr. Rest
If you think of your 24 hours in a day, and imagine
to incorporate these 8 famous doctors into your daily
activities, making them as habits, then it is not so
complicated. Yes it is very simple. Its all about habits.
Its all about the power of habits(Im currently writing
a book about this)

31

Chapter 6: Take Charge of Your Health, or Else Somebody Will

32

Your Own Best Doctor is You Yes Its You!

CONCLUSION
Health is wealth, but most people only realize it
when they begin to lose it.
Through the years of my exploration in the world
of medicine, both conventional and alternative, I have
practically tried, tested, evaluated almost every modality
that each side has to offer.
Both sides offer a complex array of methodologies,
but looking at the simplicity behind the complexity,
the real secret is already built-in in each one of us, it is
already pre-installed from the very beginning. All we
have to do is nourish our bodies regularly with its real
nourishment and detoxify or clean our bodies regularly
when it gets exposed to toxins.
I said it in the beginning part of this book, and I
would like to say it againwhen it comes to knowledge,
something is being added everyday.
When it comes to wisdom, something is being
subtracted everyday. Indeed, in my continuing search
for higher levels of truths, I have been subtracting. I have
been shifting from one level of truth to another. And as
I go through the process, I realized things are becoming
more simple. Albert Einstein was really right when
he once saidgenius lies in making the complicated
simple!
33

Conclusion

I envision a new health care system that the patients

are the real doctors, the doctors are our real guides who
are on our side, not on the side of industries.
I envision a new health care system that we are the
true owners of our health, not owned by industries.
I envision a new health care system that the medical
education is attended by people who want to be their
own doctors, who want to learn to be the driver of their
health, people who want to be the doctor of their loved
ones.
I envision such places of self health education
both virtual and actual.
I envision a new health care system that is built by
the people and for the people.not a system that is built
by industries and for greed.
Is this possible? Friends, we are only limited by our
imaginations.
If we all help each other to imagine a better world
If we all help each other to imagine a better health
care system
If we all help each other to empower ourselves to
take charge of our own health
If we all help each other to become catalysts of
change

34

If we all help each other to make our small ripples
