Rules for SPSS Assignments:

The following rules are meant to help you set up your SPSS assignments appropriately and make
them easier to grade. There will be point deductions if these rules are not followed.
1) Put the proper header on the assignment. The header is posted on NYU Classes under
Resources>SPSS Assignments>SPSS Assignment Header. Just copy and paste it onto
your assignment. This includes the Academic Integrity statement, which must be
included for the assignment to be accepted.
2) Staple or paperclip your assignment.
3) Assignments are handed in to me in class before lecture starts. Once I start speaking
you must wait until the end of class to turn in your assignment. SPSS assignments will
not be accepted by your TAs. Under no circumstances should SPSS assignments be
placed in my mailbox; if they are late they need to be brought to my office, 411
Lafayette, room 336.
4) Late penalties: All assignments must be handed in before lecture on the day that it is
due. Any time after that will be considered late. One point will be deducted for each day
late. An assignment is not considered accepted until it is in my hands. If you hand it in
after lecture on the date it is due there will be a late penalty according to my discretion.
If you receive an L on your assignment, it means that you handed in the assignment
after class on the day it was due, up until 12:30. After 12:30 on the day its due, there is a
1/2 point deduction. You may receive one free L (or Staple or Header) with no
penalty. After that, 2Ls (or Staple or Header) will receive a deduction of 1 point, 3Ls
will receive 1.5 points deduction, 4 Ls will receive 2 points deduction and 5Ls will
receive 2.5 points deduction.
5) Follow the assignment sheet instructions. Organize your report the way it is stated in
the assignment so that we dont have to go looking for answers. Usually, the written
answers to questions should go on one page and your SPSS output should be attached to
that. Answer all questions and do not answer questions that were not asked.
6) Use the data posted under Assignments. If you use the incorrect data your assignment
cannot be graded and will be considered late until it is handed in using the correct data.
7) More is not necessarily better. Do not duplicate graphs/tables (or duplicate and produce
different answers) unless it is necessary. Do not print out the data (unless asked for).
Just provide the analysis output. Too much unnecessary output will have points deducted
at the discretion of your TA.
8) Title your graphs appropriately.
9) Original work. If you discuss assignments with another person you must hand in
original work, including output and written work. If your work too closely resembles
that of another student, you will each receive zero for the assignment. This is
nonnegotiable.
