1.3 Setting weaving machine lateral guides and package guides

It is absolutely essential to maintain the following distances between lateral guides and package guides in
relation to heald frames.

1 upper and lower package guides

min. 4 mm distance (2 mm front and rear)

2 lateral heald guides

approx. 1-2 mm distance

1-2mm

Furthermore, insure that package guides are parallel to harness frame guides.

Maintenance of driving elements

Heald frames, equipped with driving elements supplied by manufacturers of shedding motions or weaving machines
(e.g. DRC 1 and DRC 10 by Stubli, Dornier driving elements etc.) must in any case be maintained according to
supplier's instructions of the driving elements.
Should the maintenance instructions of the driving elements not be followed, damages on heald frames may
occur. For these damages and such resulting in consequence GROB declines any liability (also see General
Contract Conditions of GROB HORGEN AG).

1.5

Mounting driving element Stubli DRC 3

For disassembly and assembly of lateral supports with DRC 3, refer to Section 1.1.
The driving element system Stubli DRC 3 is supplied ready for use and should not normally be disassembled.
However, when drawing-in Keyhole healds with the Reed Chatwood drawing-in machine, it is necessary to use
auxiliary lateral supports. In case the driving element system Stubli DRC 3 must be disassembled, follow the
instructions below:

Disassembly:

- Slightly loosen the hexagonal nut 4

- Remove screw 3 from lateral support 1
- Remove driving rod 2 (initially tilting the upper end)

Assembly:

- Insert driving rod 2 into lateral support 1 (start below)

- Fit driving rod 2 with screw 3 onto lateral support 1
- Tighten hexagonal nut 4 by hand as tightly as possible
- Then, tighten hexagonal nut 4 with a No. 8 wrench
1
/4 up to max. 1/2 turn ( do not deform the lateral support)

1.6 Heald frame guides

1.6.1 Replacement of heald frame guides
Guides are glued onto frame staves.

Procedure:

- Remove damaged guide and clean the gluing position on the frame stave with
a fat-solvent solution.
- Adhesive recommended by GROB: Corporation 3 M, Fastbond 10. This adhesive
is locally available in most countries.
- Apply adhesive on cleaned frame stave and in the slot of the guide. Be careful that the
adhesive is applied evenly and corners and edges are sufficiently covered.
- Furthermore, please follow the instruction and safety regulations of the manufacturer 3M.
- Remove any excess adhesive from frame stave and guide.

1.6.2 Two-piece guide for lower frame stave

Depending on the distance between end loops of healds, a two-piece guide for the lower frame stave may be
required for heald frames to be used in combination with the Reed Chatwood drawing-in machine.
The upper section of the guide is glued onto the frame stave.
The lower section of the guide is firmly connected to the upper section by two spring latches.
The lower section can be easily removed, by depressing the spring latches.

1.6.3 Maintenance of wooden components and wooden foils on heald frames

In order to improve the sliding properties of wooden guides and wooden lateral supports, the sliding surfaces should
be cleaned and dried before the sparing application of the lubricant. An application at each warp change is optimal
but the lubricant should be applied at least once per year. For this purpose, we recommend liquid wax for wood
available from your local carpenter.

1.7 Intermediate supports

Depending on heald frame width, profile dimensions and fabric construction, intermediate supports may have to be
inserted to ensure the required stability of the heald frame.
Intermediate supports are also important in maintaining a constant distance between heald carrying rods over the
entire frame width which is essential for free play of healds.
No intermediate supports can be mounted in ALfix-SL or FERmono heald frames.

1.7.1

Installation and removal of intermediate supports

Installation:

- Intermediate supports 1 should be installed before heald frames are placed in the
weaving machines
- Put screws 4 into clamping piece 2 and tighten two turns
- Insert clamping piece 2 into the opening 5 in the frame stave (Fig. A).
Pay special attention to the inclined position of the tapped holes (Fig. B).
- Clamping pieces 2 are fixed with a set-screw 3 at the desired position.
- Insert intermediate support 1 and tighten cross-slot screws 4 with the torque-wrench 6 (torque
of 4,5 Nm). All intermediate supports must be fitted vertically on the heald frames and precisely
aligned with each other.

Important:

In order to obtain the indicated torque of Nm 4,5, the appropriate torque-wrench (Item-No
264 164) must always be used.
- Intermediate supports can be moved within the machined range on the frame staves.

Removal:

1.7.2

- Loosen cross-slot screws 4 and remove intermediate support 1.

Relocation of the intermediate supports

Procedure:

- Loosen screws 4 and screw 3 and move intermediate support to required position.
- Securely tighten screws 4 and screw 3.

The intermediate supports may be moved within the machined range and are positioned by tightening set-screw 3.
For easy access the cross-slot screws remain inclined (Fig. B).

Lining-up of healds
2.1 Heald frames with heald carrying rods with riveted ends
- Place heald frame onto preparation table.
- Remove lateral support.
- A staple of healds on PORTER rods can be transferred directly onto the heald carrying rod (Take
care that the thread eyes are in the proper position).
- Remove safety springs.
- Remove PORTER rods from healds.
- Healds which are not transferred onto the heald frame remain on the PORTER rods and should be
secured by safety springs.
- Remove healds from the heald frame in reverse sequence. They should be grouped into a staple on
the heald frame so that the PORTER rods can easily be pushed through the PORTER holes.
- Re-install lateral supports.

Healds with PORTER holes

PORTER hole

Important:
Healds with PORTER holes should not be mixed with healds having no holes.

Storage of heald frames

The best way to store heald frames is hanging them on carrying arms with lateral supports installed. They should not be stacked on the floor because the accumulated weight of heald frames
piled on each other could damage the ones at the bottom. Passing warp trucks or other vehicles
could also damage the heald frames. Adequate storage system is in the users definite best
interest and prevents damage.
When hanging heald frames, ensure that support arms are as close as possible to lateral supports.
