CHRISTIANVILLE
SCHOOL
BAND

See our children and be proud with us.

Here they are, kids who had never even seen a

musical instrument in their pre-school years, now

playing beautifully in our school band, "'"hey are

talented kids. Being introduced to their instru
ments October '83 they plundged in, eager to
succeed. Of course, the first two months brought

only deep shrill screeches but by Christmas they

were playing Mary had a little lamb.
The big surprise for Christianville staff, parents and visitors came on
Dedication Day for the new church. (You will read about Dedication in the
next issue) On that momentious day the band appeared in long red pants,
white dress shirts with bow ties to the amazement of all they played
three beautiful hymns!

Tears were plentiful... even big men were wiping eyes.

Yes, we ail were.
w

Proud of our kids ? You bet!

But there was a force behind it all. Ram Hardy was

the leader and she did a great job. Thanks Ram for
all the patience we know it took. Boys are boys
and we know he job was not easy. But look now...

God blessed ^very effort and our kids are winners.

What of the f iture ? They can make a living from
music in Ha'ti, Teachers are scare and good
musicians are needed. There is much to be offered
in church m.j3ic areas and our kids are being

trained to sei'^/e. Their Spiritual lives are growing

with their education and the future looks bright.
Yes, be proud with us and keep the kids in your
prayers.

FISH HOOKS?
Fish hooks ?

No these fish won't

respond to them. This is a matter of

netting them in. It has been a great
project thus far and a lot fo fun. First
the net had to be made. (U.S.A.I.D.
had already seen to it that the pond
was stocked with baby fish). Then
when we had tested and found that

the fish had grown enough, the big

day came for the catch.

KIPANDJUNIOR WITH 2^/2 POUNDERS

First the net was stretched out across the width of the pond... 165 feet. Then it was

dropped into the water with the floats holding the lead-cord on top of the water'
Sinkers took the lower part to the bottom and the men drew the net down the pond
for the catch at the other end. Ail eyes were fixed for the catch - everyone was very
excited. After fifteen minutes of work they reached the end, drew up the net, and ioi...
there was one fish in it i The fish had slipped away under the net. There was laughter
and fun like we hadn't seen in a long long time.
But later, we succeeded.
HEATH HELPS, TOO.

Yes, we caught nearly three hundred fish in all

and the school children enjoyed their share.
But success day was also cleaning day. Kip
and Junior led the work team and even their

youngest son Heath did his share. It was comparltively a small catch and we hope to do
much better when the chicken project is in full
operation. Remember, the chicken droppings
are full of partly digested corn and that is the
food the fish need.

We're off to a good start!

CHRISTIANVILLE
[JUNIOR
Boys and girls, God's Word
says... "The poor shall never
cease, therefore I command
thee, saying open thine
hand wide..." Deut. 15:11.

This is vvhat you have been

doing opening your hand
wide to help our hungry
babies. Here in our picture
you see some of the little
ones whom you are helping.
Many of these little ones
who belong to Jesus, would
not live if they were not
getting help. Please remem
ber the children in your
prayers.

h;ach week our Nutrition ladies load up the horse that will carry food up the
mountains to the outpost. There they will cook for the babies and teach the mothers
how to care for them. They will also give them food to cook for the other days of the
week

II is a long hike up there but our ladies are Christians and they are happy to go and
help the little hungry children.

Want to know a surprise ? We are planning to open a new kindergarten in September.

We will la-.e children from 3 to 5 years old who have been getting strong from being
in thi? Nutrition feeding. You see, after they get well, they have to leave so that other
sickly babnes can come in.

But when

they go

back

home there will still not be

enough toed, it we can have

them III Kindergarten we

can feed them and keep
them strong
that they
will loar-i better when they
do

come

to

school.

We

know yuij will be glad to

heartnis

Sometimes they are sick

and have to go to the hospital. Like little

Contave who Is now having Typhoid Fever.

Our family has given blood for a transfusion
for him and we are praying that God will
spare his life. We visit him every day and
show him we care. Our children are all on

vacation but they come each day for songs

and a Bible lesson before their dinner. If you
were here we would let you help us pass out
the plates of food. Now that would be fun,
wouldn't It I

Jean Augustine takes his music very

seriously. He loves to play that saxiphone
and you would too, if you had the chance.
We think he is a lucky little boy and so does
he. Augustine takes his school work
seriously too, and we like those A's that we
see on his report.

Hey kids, look at all that corn ! That's Wayne supervising the boys In spreading thei
corn out on our roof-top to dry in the sun. When the field of corn was ready to reap,
our school boys did the picking. That was 2 days of fun for them ! Bag after bag was
stacked into the truck, and hauled up to our course. After the corn dried it was
removed to the yard where a machine picked off all the little kernels. Now the
corn is ready to grind into chicken feed and it will then be a great help in the chicken
project. Soon we hope to have more eggs for our children.

RECOMMENDATION

I am happy to recommend Wayne Herget as one who

is worthy of support of our churches. I have known
Wayne most of his life. He has been in our home and
church often.

Wayne is a very bright young man who iscompletely

dedicated to serving Christ. He is a young man of
integrity who is completely reliable. I am certain
that he would honor any trust ever placed in him.
He being a product of Christian missions makes him
even more valuable as he serves as a missionary him
self.

[With people like Wayne Herget at work the future of

our cause in the Caribbean is very bright indeed. He
has already merited our support;and he will continue
to do so.

- the hope of the future, the good soil for the

sowing of the seed of the Gospel. Here is the
learning seat of a new way of life that spells
high morals, good nutrition, stepping stones
for earning a living ... all couched in a firm
Christian atmosphere. Children learn of Jesus
while satisfying their hunger for food and
