A dismantling view of centrifugal pump shows with what type of items it is made off. During 17th century it
is one of the peculiar devices that were invented for fluid pumping. As on now they are modified and
redesigned with advance technologies, made capable of handling heavy duty pumping systems. For
house hold and industrial purpose these machines work to maintain constant flow rates and provide
driving force for fluid to flow between unit operations. It is simple in structure, assembled with
mechanical parts which convert the energy forms of the fluid. It is driven by a motor connected to its
shaft.

A design engineer with mechanical and chemical background would include his skills in upgrading
centrifugal pump so that they can work with less maintenance and give high performance, they are
redesigning it structure with efficient casing, impellers and bearings as we know that the liquid is added
with energy which makes it to flow and it is mainly kinetic energy continuously supplied to fluid inside the
casing by impeller rotation.
Below drawing briefs the fitting of mechanical part inside an ideal centrifugal pump
Bearing bracket(330), discharge cover(163), cooling cover(165), support foot(183), Shaft(210),
impeller(230), bearing cover(360), flat gasket(400), gasket(411), oil seal(421), gland cover(452), lantern
ring(458), packing(461), wearing ring(502), splash ring(507), shaft protection sleeve(524), washer(550),
washer for impeller(554), vent plug(913),deep groove ball bearing(321), hexagonal nut(920), key(940),
these are important part which make a pump. Design engineers can modify these parts replacing them
more mechanical system but an ideal case of manufacturing of a pump is based on these parts like Oring(412) material of construction, changing the position of hexagonal head bolt(901), Volute casing(102)
geometric shape based on material handling.

Centrifugal pump parts

In the dismantling view drawing, upper section show the series of parts present from a casing to bearing
cover, the casing is fitted with locknut to the impeller and the corresponding gasket rings to the casing, a
shaft runs from the center of impeller is locked with lock-nut (906) which holds and give support to
rotating and stationary part. At the end of the discharge cover mechanical seal is fitted if not packings
are provide to prevent leak from casing through the edges of rotating shafts. Bearing provide sufficient
smooth rotation of shaft with less friction.
In lower section of drawing stuffing box is shown where the bearings are supplied with lubrication.
Lubricant is filled in its oil compartment to cool the bearing and provide necessary lubrication to shaft
and bearing wheel balls.
