1. The murder of Fortunato was successful revenge according to the phrase I
must not only punish, but punish with impunity as the murder of Fortunato
was not noticed as he said on the last sentence: For the half of a century no

2. As he states you it was specifically meant to be told to only one person,


probably someone close to him in the future, why? Because as he stated on
the last sentence For the half of a century and with that you can say that
it is someone close to him after 50 years.
3. The carnival season promoted the revenge against Fortunato, he had been
drinking too much, he was wearing a jester attire that would make him more
difficult to identify if they were together, Motresor palazzo was was empty as
the attendants were at the carnival. It was the perfect timing for his revenge,
taking him far away to inspect the cask of amontillado.
4. Fortunato prided himself on his connoisseurship in wine, and that the
weakness that Montresor took opportunity from, by mentioning Luchresi,
probably someone else that knew about wine; Fortunatos pride made him
continue to the cask of amontillado to prove himself better on wine.

Fortunato its walking into his dead, Montresor uses kind of like a reverse
psychology to make him continue by saying something like you should not
continue because of the cold and the nitre, but that made him to keep it
going even though he was already intoxicated.
8. Montresor takes no pity on Fortunato and only repeat his words back to him
while he was still taking it as a joke, Montresor just keep putting the stones
on place until Fortunato didnt answered anymore, with no emotion on a cold
finality.
9. Fortunato probably didnt even understood what was happening because as if
he knew that Monstresor had any bad feeling against him he wouldnt have
followed him all the way over the crypt.
