5. RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1

Mechanical Engineers

Mechanical engineer (Site engineer) is having overall responsibility of the testing activities. He shall
check the installation work for completion before testing activities. He shall be responsible for the safety
of the testing activity.
5.2

QC Inspectors

QA/QC engineer shall prepare testing procedure and shall submit to the Client / Consultant approval
before starting the testing activities. He shall record all the data during the testing and submit to Client /
Consultant review.
5.3
HSE officer
HSE officer will monitor and advise all the safety lapses to the person involved in the activity. He will
directly coordinate and report to the project manager all the safety laps so that immediate rectification
will be done accordingly
5.4

Manufacture Representative

All the testing activities shall be done under the supervision of Manufacture Representative. He has to
check the testing activities with their recommendation.
6. CHILLER DESCRIPTION
Make York
Model YCIV0830EA
Type- Air cooled water chiller
Capacity 631 KW
Power consumption at maximum load COP at design condition ( 52 degC Ambient Temp, 6degC LCWT
Chill water flow 7. TEST METHOD
The test will measure net cooling capacity (tons of refrigeration) and energy requirements, at a specific
set of conditions.
To confirm that steady-state conditions have been established at the specific set of conditions a, three sets
of data shall be taken, at a minimum of five-minute intervals. To minimize the effects of transient
conditions, test readings should be taken as simultaneously as possible.
The test shall include a measurement of the net heat removed from the water as it passes through the
evaporator by determination of the following:

Page: 6

a. Water flow rate, gpm [L/s]

b. Temperature difference between entering and leaving water F, [C]
The heat removed from the chilled water is equal to the product of the chilled water flow rate, the water
temperature difference, and the specific heat of the water defined by equation
The test shall include the determination of the chiller power requirement. This power shall be determined
by measurement of electrical input to the motor drive
8. DATA TO BE RECORDED DURING THE TEST.
Test data to be recorded

Temperature of water entering evaporator, oC te

Temperature of water leaving evaporator, oC - tl
Chilled water flow rates, [L/s] Power input to compressor electrical power, Kw

Auxiliary data to be recorded for general information.

Name plate data including make, model, size and refrigerant, sufficient to completely identify the
water chiller.

Ambient temperature at test site, oC

Actual voltage, V, and current, Amps, for each phase of all electric motor drives
9. TESTING CONDITION
Condenser cooling temperature Available ambient temperature
Cooling Load - Available peak load condition
Leaving water temperature - 6 oC
Entering water temperature - uncontrolled
Load factor uncontrolled
Chill water flow rate - 24 lps
10.

TEST PROCEDURE.

The Water-Chilling Package, which has been completely connected in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions and is ready for normal operation, shall be provided with the necessary instrumentation.
Start the system and establish the testing conditions and keep the system for at least 30 minutes
Record the entering water temperature and leaving water temperature for the installed thermometers
Record the chill water flow rate using the differential manometer by connecting to double regulating
valve

Record the ambient temperature using calibrated thermometer

Record the power consumption from HMI of chiller
The consecutive set of readings shall be recorded in 5 minutes interval
COP shall be calculated and recorded for the each set of readings
11.CALCULATION OF RESULTS
The capacity, Btu/h [kW], shall be obtained from the following equation:
Qev = c.mw (te - tl)
Where
te - Temperature of water entering evaporator [oC]
tl - Temperature of water leaving evaporator,[ oC ]
mw - Chilled water flow rates, [L/s]
c - Specific heat of water = 4.1855 [J/(gK)]
Qev - Evaporator cooling Capacity[kw]
Coefficient of Performance (COP) is calculated the from the following equation
COP = Qev / Pin
Where

Pin Total power input to chiller
