SuperParent Holiday Shopping Day
On the morning of December 16th, stacks of baby toys, stuffed ani-
mals, board games, hula hoops, footballs, action figures, and hun-
dreds of other toys stood organized and stacked awaiting the arrival of
hundreds of Super Parents. Over 670 families (with over 1300 chil-
dren) took part in the two day SuperParent Holiday Shopping Day
Event and each family went home with 2 new gifts for each of their
children, stocking stuffers, and even mini Christmas trees. Needless to
say there were some very happy children this holiday season!

San Diego Yacht Club Event

Nearly 50 military families

celebrated a special holiday event along the Bay at the
San Diego Yacht Club this past December.

Naval Medical Center

Santa and Mrs. Claus (Maria Taggart), along
with members of San Diego Navy League,
delivered gifts and holiday cheer to pediatrics.

Holiday cheer was showered on the disabled, injured and ill.

Our littlest warriors, pediatric patients, attended a magical holi-
day party sponsored by Town and Country Resort Hotel. Santa
was good to adult patients as well. More than a dozen events
featured: carolers, gifts, food, fun & football. Most of our
wounded warriors woke up Christmas morning surrounded by
family, thanks to the generous donation of travel from the War-
rior Foundation. That evening 65 patients/families attended a
Cajun Christmas dinner in Hillcrest.

Final thoughts...
From the Desk of Executive Director Paul Steffens:
Happy New Year Everyone! This is the time of the year that we ponder over all that we
accomplished during the year that just ended and think about the challenges ahead in
the new year. Looking at 2009, I am very proud of the ASYMCASD Team (my 26 Super-
stars, the Members of the Board of Management and Civilian Advisory Committee, the
members of Avant Garde and the hundreds of civilian and military volunteers who, to-
gether, enabled us to reach a new threshold in our average monthly program participa-
tion. Our average monthly program participation in 2009 reached 6,832. We will con-
tinue our effort in 2010 to reach even more military and their families. In 2009, we
were excited over introducing new programs, such as our Neighborhood Exchange Pro-
gram and Camp Hero. We also introduced periodic “Open Houses” in our Youth and
Community Outreach Department to introduce YCO programs to more and more military
families. We clearly recognize that we could not provide our quality programs without
the terrific support of the San Diego Community, both the military and civilian. San
Diego is a military town and that is evident in the fantastic support we receive, both fi-
nancial and hands on support. We will continue in 2010 to provide innovative programs
that meet the current and emerging needs of military families.
We thank you for your support!
