Introduction

Pearl Dairy Farms Ltd. is the agro arm of the Midland Group of
Companies with the manufacturing unit based in Mbarara
District of Uganda in East Africa region. The intent of the setup
was to help the local dairy farmers by generating a constant
demand for milk in the region and educate them to adapt
to cleaner and more hygienic milk production techniques to
contribute towards the growth of dairy industry as a whole.
Built on 15 acres of land, the plants current milk processing
capacity is 500,000 liters of milk a day. The plant is engaged
in processing liquid milk to various types of dairy products
namely Butter Oil, Ghee, Skimmed Milk Powder, Full Cream
Milk Powder, and other dairy products.

Full Cream Milk Powder
FCMP is obtained by the process of two-step dehydration of full-cream liquid milk. The
first step is condensing the material and then drying it in a spray drying tower. It consists
of mechanical spraying of condensed milk in a special tower where in contact with hot air
dehydration of falling drops of milk takes place. Readymade powder is subject to cooling.
This milk is used in food industry for production of Milk Chocolate, Ice-cream, Sauces,
Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Cheese and Bakery Industry.

Skimmed Milk Powder


Skimmed Milk Powder is obtained in the process of two-step dehydration of fat removed
liquid milk. The first step is condensing the material and then drying in a spray drying
tower. It consists of mechanical spraying of condensed milk in a special tower where in
contact with hot air dehydration of falling drops of milk takes place. It contains all twentyone standard amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, and is high in soluble vitamins
and minerals.

Instant Full Cream Milk Powder


Instant Full Cream Milk Powder is made from pure, fresh, homogenized and pasteurized
cows milk of prime quality. Water has been removed by a special spray process which
ensures that all natural food elements are preserved. The Instant Full Cream Milk Powder
thus produced is easily digestible and can be used for all purposes where milk is required.

Butter Oil
Butter oil or high-vitamin butter oil is dairy oil which is extracted without heat from the milk
of cows fed only on rapidly growing grass. It is more nutritious and dense than standard
butter and less processed than ghee.
Health benefits of Butter Oil are

Butter oil is a nutrient dense supplement containing high amounts of Activator-X

and the fat-soluble vitamin K2.

Rich in butyric acid, a main form of fuel for gut bacteria, this is critical for healthy

digestion and immune function.

Ghee
Ghee is a type of clarified butter which is prepared by melting butter, boiling off the water
and separating the clear, golden butter fat from the milk solids. The production of ghee
includes simmering the butter along with milk solids which makes the GHEE nutty tasting
and aromatic.
The health benefits of Ghee are as follows
Ghee is good for nerves and brain as it helps control eye pressure and is beneficial to

glaucoma patients.

Ghee is most notably said to stimulate the secretion of stomach acids to help with

digestion, while other fats, such as butter and oils, slow down the digestive process

and can sit heavy in the stomach.

NEMA
National Environment Management Authority Certificate of
approval of Environmental Impact Assessment for the Milk
Processing Plant.

UNBS
UNBS (Uganda National Bureau of Standards) recognized Pearl
Dairy for its LATO - Whole Milk Powder, Skimmed Milk Powder,
Butter Oil and Ghee. It is a Q-mark which basically defines it as
quality certificate renowned and accepted in all African countries.
