III. Reading Activity

Read the text below and decide which of the four characters is each
sentence about:
Yunus comes from Istanbul, Turkey and he is 28 years old. He lives with his
parents in a centrally located flat and he works as a clerk for the municipality.
There is a wide range of activities he does at work and he likes challenges.
After work he enjoys going with his colleagues to drink black tea and relax in a
tea shop and at the weekend he meets his friends and eats kebap and baklava
at his favourite traditional restaurant from Taksim. He is a Fenerbahce fan and
sometimes he goes to the stadium to support his football team in important
competitions. He is friendly and has many foreign friends and when they visit
him, he is their guide in the city presenting them the most important places in
the historic part of the city.

Ubald is a personal trainer who works at the biggest gym in Tarragona,

Catalonia. He is 32 years old and he lives with his wife in a small rented flat
near the cathedral. He eats only healthy food and he tries to encourage many
young peole to take care of their diet and health. In his free time he likes
meeting his friends and taking part in weekly trainings for building human
towers. He gets involved in this activity every year and for him being a member
in the big team who builds the human towers during the city fiesta is a big
responsability and pride. He has many friends abroad as well and when they
visit him, he likes presenting them the ancient part of the city and showing them
the ruins which are today the witnesses of history.

Maria comes from Arezzo, Italy and she is 27 years old. She lives in her
familys house from her hometown with her parents and two younger brothers.
She works in a jewelry shop and her job is to make jewelries, to repair the
broken ones and to advise customers. In her free time she likes meeting her

friends for a coffee in the main square of the town where the film La vita e
bella was shot and to go shopping. Every year she takes part, as all the town
inhabitants do, in the town medieval fiesta watching and cheering the people
who wear traditional clothes and compete in tournaments. She also likes going
for long walks on the paved narrow streets of the town and to admire the
medieval atmosphere of the buildings built with yellowish stone.

Daniela is a petrol engineer from Ploiesti, Romania. She is 35 years old and
she lives alone in a rented flat right in the city centre. She works for a
multinational company in the oil industry which has a big refinery in her city. Her
responsibilities are big and she has to take important decisions every day.
Sometimes she has to go abroad with business and she has made a lot of
friends from different countries. In her free time she prefers to visit her parents
who live in a house outside the city, to go to the theatre with her friends or to
different folk shows where dancers and singers wear Romanian traditional
clothes. When her foreign friends visit her, she shows them the beautiful castles
which are not far away from the city and the salt mine from Slanic.
