Physical
Properties

Function/
Activity

Micropel DC10 DIDP is an antimicrobial solution of 4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-3(2h)-isothiazolone in a

non-volatile plasticizer carrier. It is an effective fungicide for use in PVC, polyurethane and other
polymeric compositions requiring fungal protection. Low levels of Micropel DC10 DIDP will provide
long-term preservation against fungal attack and will help prevent surface growth, permanent
staining, embrittlement, and premature product failure.
Micropel DC10 DIDP is recommended for vinyl film and sheeting, extruded profiles, plastisols,
molded goods, organosols, fabric coatings, urethane foams, and similar polymer formulations and will
not discolor or detract from the protected products chemical or physical properties. Micropel DC10
DIDP solution can be conveniently incorporated into the formulation during the mixing or
compounding process.
The following are typical properties of Micropel DC10 DIDP; they are not to be considered product
specifications.
Active Ingredient: .......................................................10% (4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-3(2h)-isothiazolone)
Inert Carrier: ......................................................................................... 84-90% (diisodecyl phthalate)
Appearance: .............................................................................................. Yellow colored, clear liquid
Density: ................................................................................................ 0.95-0.98 g/cm3 [25C (77F)]
Micropel DC10 DIDP is recommended at concentrations between 0.8% and 2.0%. For outdoor
applications, a level of 1.2-2.0% Micropel DC10 DIDP is recommended in PVC formulations for
maximum effectiveness. Micropel maintains extensive testing facilities in order to assist the
manufacturer in determining the optimum level of biocidal agent required for each product.
Micropel DC10 DIDP is incorporated into a compound by substituting the required level (0.8% to
2.0%) for an equal amount of plasticizer or polyol. For example, in a 1000 lb batch containing 300 lbs
of plasticizer and requiring a 1.2% Micropel DC10 DIDP antimicrobial level, 12 lbs of the plasticizer or
polyol would be replaced with 12 lbs of appropriate Micropel antimicrobial. It is important to
remember that the final cost of using Micropel antimicrobials is, therefore, calculated as the difference
in cost between the Micropel antimicrobial and the replaced plasticizer.
Micropel DC10 DIDP should be added early in the blending operation to assure homogeneity.
