VISION
To become one of the leading Maritime Institutions in the Philippines by S.Y. 2017.
MISSION
The Maritime Education program shall aim to produce competent seafarers whose
knowledge, skills and attitudes fulfill all the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, STCW Convention
& Code including 2010 Manila Amendments, Policies, Standards and Guidelines of the
Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Circular Memorandum of the Technical Education
Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and such other international laws and conventions
that may directly or indirectly affect the Quality Management System of the University.

OBJECTIVES
The College of Maritime Education is committed to produce graduates who:
1. Exhibit the competencies required of the trade for entry-level apprenticeship or
employment.
2. Show evidences of values indicative of honesty, integrity, discipline and hard work
that will make him reliable and dependable individual.
3. Possess desirable attitudes and work ethics required of a seafarer.
4. Demonstrate the ability to use ones mind intelligently in making decisions and solve

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:


The BSMarE program aims to:
1. Provide and equip students with knowledge, understanding, proficiencies, skills,
competencies, attitudes and values to qualify them for:
A. professional licensure examination; and
B. assessment and certification as officer in charge of an engineering watch in a
manned engine room or designated duty engineer officer in a periodically
unmanned engine-room on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion
machinery of 750 kW propulsion power or more;

2. Produce graduates that are:


A. competent to carry out safely the watch keeping duties of an officer in charge
of an engineering watch in a manned engine room or designated duty engineer
officer in a periodically unmanned engine room, both at sea and in port;
B. fully conversant with the basic principles to be observed in keeping an
engineering watch as per STCW Regulation VIII/2, Chapter VIII of the STCW
Code; and
C. qualified to pursue a professional career or advanced studies in any maritime
field of specialization.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:


The graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering program shall have
acquired the knowledge and competence necessary to perform the following:
1. Demonstrate the ability to undertake at the operational level the tasks, duties and
responsibilities in column 1 of Table A-III/1 of Section A-III/1 of the STCW Code;
A. Maintain a safe engineering watch
B. Use English in written and oral form
C. Use internal communication systems
D. Operate main and auxiliary machinery and associated control systems
E. Operate fuel, lubrication, ballast and other pumping systems and associated
control systems
F. Operate auxiliary machineries and control systems
G. Maintenance and repair of compressor
H. Appropriate use of hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments for
fabrication and repair on board
I. Maintenance and repair of shipboard machinery and equipment
J. Ensure compliance with pollution-prevention requirements
K. Maintain sea worthiness of the ship
L. Prevent, control and fight fires on board
M. Operate life saving appliances
N. Apply medical first aid on board ship
O. Monitor compliance with legislative requirements
P. Application of leadership and team-working skills

Auxmach 1
SUBJECT DESCRIPTION: Auxiliary Machinery 1
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course includes the heat engine cycle, air compressor, heat,
construction detailed of reciprocating compressor, compressor operation, rotary compressor,
storage of compressed air, air distribution, operate pumping pump system, and associated
control system, maintenance and repair of auxiliary machinery and explained how moisture is
removed from the air in a distribution system.
In addition, it enhances the students competence and global
competitiveness in using, repairing, and maintaining auxiliary and different type of pump such as
screw pump, reciprocating pump, gear pump . Additionally, this course also promotes the
practice of the universitys core values as excellence, integrity, honesty and loyalty.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME: At the end of the course, the students should process
adequate theoretical knowledge and practical skill to carry out the duties of an engineer of a
watch in safe and efficient manner.
GRADING SYSTEM CUMMULATIVE
There are three grading periods. The grades obtained for each grading period is referred to as
follows:
First Grading Period (Prelim Grade) From the start of classes to the Prelim Exam.
Second Grading Period (Tentative Midterm Grade) After the Prelim Exam to the Midterm Exam.
