Projects
MPPT Solar Charger, SFU (Senior Design Project)
Dec 2013 - April 2014
Designed a MPPT solar cell battery charger; involved with power stage, control and MPPT algorithm
Soldered PCB, conducted testing to prove correct functioning and troubleshot errors
milliOhm Meter, Personal Project
Jan 2015
Designed a mOhm meter to measure small resistances such as shunts using the force/sense method
Utilized SPI to communicate to PGAs to achieve large dynamic range for ADC
Analog portion of circuit designed carefully to increase sensitivity, PCB etched in acid at home
Front panel made to look visually appealing, used high speed LED 7 segment displays
Successfully implemented a PMSG controller in Simulink to track optimal tip velocity for MPPT
Learned about DQ axis theory for induction and permanent magnet motors
Designed a PI DQO controller to control torque such that optimal tip velocity was achieved
Six Leg three phase inverter and SPWM was used to control the PMSG
Guitar Hero Clone, SFU (Digital System Design)
March 2014
Designed Guitar Hero(video game) clone based on a Altera DE2-115(Cyclone IV) in VHDL
Successfully designed a high speed (5Mhz) NTSC video decoder using analog circuitry
Designed vertical, horizontal syncing circuits, high speed buffers, filters using opamps
Prototyped circuit very cleanly to avoid noise at high frequencies, output displayed on CRT scope
Analog signal delay line, Personal Project
Dec 2014
Designed a digitally implemented analog delay based around a serial SRAM and a dsPIC33
Utilized SPI communication to access a 1MBIT memory chip where a buffer was implemented
Simulated analog portion of the circuit in LTSpice, PCB was designed in Altium and etched at home
Successfully integrated hardware/software design ranging from DC motor controllers, laser drivers,
laser transducers and position tracking using a meticulous design approach
Demonstrated system design knowledge, assembling device involved a lot of different wires,
components and interconnections, final product was mechanically sound
Used various power tools putting project together, showing mechanical skills
Designed device such that it was capable of producing discernible images and creating .BMP files
Tremlolo Guitar Effect Pedal, Personal Project
Successfully implemented a linear regulator to provide +/- rails from a positive supply
Achieved low noise realization by using correct decoupling capacitors and circuit layout
Dec 2013
