Origin:
Old English bisignis 'anxiety' (see busy, -ness);
the sense 'state of being busy' was used from
Middle English down to the 18th century, but is
now differentiated as busyness. The use
'appointed task' dates from late Middle English,
and from it all the other current senses have
developed

An organization or economic system where

another or for money. Every business requires
some form of investment and enough customers
to whom its output can be sold on a consistent
basis in order to make a profit. Businesses can be
privately owned, not-for-profit or state-owned. An
example of a corporate business is PepsiCo

Stephenson defines business as, "The regular
production or purchase and sale of goods
undertaken with an objective of earning profit and
acquiring wealth through the satisfaction of human
wants."
According to Dicksee, "Business refers to a form of
activity conducted with an objective of earning
profits for the benefit of those on whose behalf the
activity is conducted."
