TRAINING CELL
Guidelines for Conduct of Industry Oriented Hands on Experience (IOHE)Training
As part of the curriculum for the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, it is mandatory for
all BE Civil Engineering students to undergo training at any external organization of repute for a
minimum period of SIX MONTHS during their study period at this university. The course is a 25
credit course and is entitled INDUSTRY ORIENTED HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (IOHE). The
tentative date for commencement of training for CE 2011 batch is 01 Jan 2015.
INDUSTRY ORIENTED HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (IOHE) training shall be conducted for the
Students of BE Civil Engineering students as per the following guidelines
SELECTION OF ORGANISATION
INDUSTRY ORIENTED HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (IOHE) will be considered as a full-fledged
course of 25 credits. Guiding Principle behind internship/training would be improvement in
knowledge/skills & employability of the students and emphasis would be on core companies and
practical/field work on live project situations and translation of academic knowledge acquired to ground
situations. Students will have a choice to undergo IOHE in any field related to civil engineering at
an industry/research lab/organisation of repute.

Students must apply to the Training Coordinator in the prescribed format given in Annexure-I to this
notice indicating his/her choice of organization where he/she would like to undergo Industrial
Training. The students must keep the following points in mind, while approaching any organization
for pursuing their IOHE
a. The organisation should be of repute and must have been in existence for at least five years.
b. Organization in principle should agree to engage students in a meaningful Live Engineering
Project for the full stipulated period of training as mentioned above and also help the university in
conducting periodic evaluations of the students which includes submission of monthly progress report
on training to the University and visit by the faculty to the site.
c. Once approved, the students are not permitted to change their training organisation without
prior permission from the university.

Based on the information provided by the student in Annexure-I, university would scrutinize
the details of the organization and will give its approval. Students in their own interest and to avoid
rejection of their requests should approach only those organizations, which fulfil the criteria of
selection laid down by the university.

Thereafter, students may collect formal request letter/NOC for the approved organisation (draft
provided in Annexure 2) to be submitted to his / her prospective training organisation from
Training Co-ordinator, Civil Engineering Department.

4.

The student should obtain a consent letter (As per draft provided in Annexure 3) from the training
organization and submit it to the Office of Training and Placement, Civil Engineering Department as a
proof of acceptance by the organisation.

5.

Commencement of IOHE course on 01 Jan 2015.

MONITORING
6.

Each student has to submit a joining report intimating the date of his/her joining training as per
Annexure-IV. The students have to ensure that the joining reports are received by the university
within 15 days of joining the organisation by hand/registered post. Delays in submission are liable to
attract academic penalties.

7.

For effective monitoring of training each student has to obtain a progress report for each month from
the industry coordinator/ immediate supervisor/ Project Manager as per Annexure-V and submit the
same during Mid Term/End Term Evaluations.

8.

The students are required to maintain a Daily Diary to keep a record of their daily work, which they
have to present during the Mid Term/ End Term evaluations.

Note: The students will be informed well in advance about the exact dates of evaluation through
chalkpad notice. Therefore the students are advised to check their chalkpad account regularly
during the training period.
11. On successful completion of INDUSTRY ORIENTED HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (IOHE),
students are required to submit a Project Report to the university within a week of completion

of his/her training along with a feedback (As per Annexure-VI).


12. The layout of the report must be as per specified guidelines given in Annexure-VIII. A standard
cover page has to be used by the students (As per Annexure-IX) and the report shall contain a
certificate of successful completion of IOHE (As per Annexure-VII) from host organisation and a
declaration as per Annexure-X in original
Important: It may be noted that project reports not conforming to the guidelines given above
and those specified in Annexures- VII, VIII and IX and X will not be accepted by the university.
13. Work done by the student will be evaluated on the basis of criteria given in paragraph no 12.
14. On successful presentation of the work, a valid grade will be awarded to the student, which will be a
part of his/her final transcript.
15. In case, any campus- placement activity is scheduled during the IOHE for, students would need to
take leave from their respective organizations and be available in campus for their placements.
16. After completion of the training, each student shall submit a feedback to the training coordinator as
per Annexure-XI which shall be utilised in improving training program for subsequent
batch/batches.

Chitkara University has been established by the Himachal Pradesh State Legislature under the "Chitkara
University Act". It is a government recognized University empowered to confer degrees as per the Sections 2(f)
and 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956. Since its inception, Chitkara University has been placing a lot of emphasis on
Industry-Academia collaboration. The unique features of our academic system are

a learning centric approach,


continuous evaluation system,
emphasis on application oriented learning by students and
a strong Industry-relevant curriculum.

Chitkara remains one of the top choices for engineering aspirants in North India every year and has been growing
very fast on Pan India basis, so as to produce engineering professionals of the highest standards.
IOHE is a 25 credit course, where a student is expected to work on a live engineering project. The project being
pursued by the student is to be jointly evaluated by the host organization of the Industry and the University.
Therefore, the faculty from this university may please be permitted to visit your work site/ premises with prior
permission to evaluate the students periodically. The evaluation criteria adopted by us is placed at Appendix to
this letter. If any modifications are desired they can be considered.
I am sure our students shall contribute to productivity in your organisation and will in turn gain valuable
hands-on experience.

3.

On successful completion of INDUSTRY ORIENTED HANDS ON EXPERIENCE (IOHE),


students are required to submit a Project Report to the university within a week of completion of
his/her training along with a feedback and certificate of successful completion of the IOHE from
host organisation.

The students are required to submit a monthly progress report of their training from their training
organisation signed by the immediate supervisor and the project manager to the university by 10th
of each month.

5.

Visit by the faculty to the worksite with prior permission from the training organisation at mutual
convenience for evaluating the students.
