Representative Keith Perry Unveils Local Legislation

(Gainesville, FL) Representative Keith Perry unveiled two pieces of local legislation
today relating to a referendum to determine the need for an independent utility
authority to manage and operate Gainesville Regional Utilities and; the Repeal of the
Boundary Adjustment Act.
Each year the delegation, which includes Senator Rob Bradley, Representative Clovis
Watson, Jr., Representative Keith Perry and Representative Elizabeth Porter, holds a
public hearing in order to provide local officials and the public an opportunity to discuss
any issues of interest with their legislators as well as vote on local bills to be presented
during Regular Session.
As we kick off the 2015 legislative season, I am eager to hear from our local
community about the important issues they are facing every day, Representative Perry
stated. It is my intent at the delegation hearing to present proposed local legislation
that will combat some of these issues and positively affect our community.
One piece of local legislation under consideration intends to allow the citizens of
Gainesville the opportunity to decide on Gainesville Regional Utilities governing
structure. It is the hope with the adoption of this legislation to provide long term
stability for the employees, staff and all the customers of the Gainesville Regional
Utility.
Another piece of legislation under consideration is an act to Repeal the Boundary
Adjustment Act in order to ensure the proper balance of power and proper role of
government is achieved equally in all the cities of Alachua County.
It is vital to the delegation to have a strong presence from the people who have
elected us to office so that we can go to Tallahassee and take the message of the voters
with us, Representative Perry concluded. I look forward to working with
Representatives on both sides of the aisle to ensure the great State of Florida continues
to hear the voices of the residents of Alachua County.
