This book is simply about how to stay healthy by narrowing down on recreation topic.
Recreation is the energy, time, materials, money and other things, spent for the
refreshment and rejuvenation of the mind and body. It is a form of active entertainment
for the participants. Recreation can be done in groups or individually. It can be carried
out outdoors or indoors. In particular, outdoor activities are great for children of all ages
as they not only learn from exploring what is around them, but they also get the muchneeded physical activity. Many forms of recreation, too, can be done as a family. There
are many activities that counts as recreation such as competitive sports like football,
games like scrabble, hobbies like reading, outdoor activities like camping, collection like
collecting old coins and extreme activities like skydiving. All of these activities are
counts as recreation because the activities can give relaxation to the mind and body of
a person. This book explain on how to do almost all activities counts as recreation such
as hiking, bowling and fishing, the benefits of the activities, safety needed for the
extreme activities and 13 pages story entitle Expedition Kinabalu. In the short story, it
tells about a group of secondary students from Peninsular Malaysia went to Sabah to
join their ex-teacher to an expedition to hike the Kinabalu Mountain. There, the students
learn how difficult to climb the mountain, how important to cooperate with each other

especially in the tough time and the happiness they felt when they get on the top of the
mountain. In conclusion, the climbing is a recreation activity because at the end they
can clear their mind enjoying the view from the mountain, also exercising their body at
the same time.

1. Help people to live longer and reduce risk of developing coronary heart
disease, diabetes, stroke and certain types of cancers.
2. Contributes to mental health by significantly reducing stress and depression.
3. Able to learn social and motor skills and creativity for children, develop full
physical, social, creative, intellectual and spiritual potential for adult.
4. Helps children and teenagers develop intellectual capacities and concepts
through their participation in recreational activities.
5. Boosts positive self-esteem and self-image, which provide a solid foundation
for personal quality of life.
6. Builds better understanding among a variety of cultures and traditions.
7. Reduce negative and self-destructive behaviour such as smoking, drug
abuse, vandalism and gangsterism.
8. Strengthens the bond among family members and create safe and
encouraging development opportunities for children.
9. Builds social skills so that children and teenagers are prepared to assume
their places and responsibilities in their community.
10. Build a strong and self-sufficient community where members meet, interact
and learn to live together in harmony.
11. Helps to nuture the youth and produce leaders within the community and
setting positive examples to the younger generation.

12. Recreational activities improve the well-being of the people, making them
better and more efficient workers.
13. The development of recreational areas and park boosts the economy as
these places attract more business opportunities to the community.

Safety tips:
1. Personal safety:
a. Carry out recreational activities in a group so that if anything happens
one of you can get help from others.
b. Do everything in moderation and stop when you feel too tired or too
thirsty.
c. Do not eat or chew gum while doing outdoor activities to avoid choking.
2. Equipment safety:
a. Make sure your equipment is functioning and in good condition before
you use them.
b. Put on a flotation device while boating or doing other water-related
activities.
c. Always have a first-aid kit at hand.
d. Wear the correct attire for each activity.
3. Environment factors:
a. Find shelter when the weather turns bad while you are out in the open.
b. Avoid overexposure to the sun.
c. Avoid dangerous places such as rough waves, deep and unsafe parts
of a river.

Application in the Organisation

The organisation can held activities counts as recreation to be done together such as
football competition or go hiking together. The workers can give their opinion on what
the best activities for them so they will involve voluntarily. Recreation activities can be

done once a month such as aerobic, or twice a year such as football competition or
even once a year such as family day where many activities included on the day. The
recreation as we knows, can reduce the work stress and increase the work efficiency.
Therefore, recreation is important and already been applied in many organisations.
