Wiccans believe in Faeries, we call them The Fae.

They are the sprites of nature, they are not the

cartoon type you see in fairy tales or in Disney movies, but little sprites that live in the shadow world.
Faery folk, or the Fae, are an ancient race of people who lived in the British Isles long before the
Celts or the Anglo-Saxons arrived.
They are believed to have descended from the Tuatha De Danann (the tribe of the goddess Dana), a
magical race who flew into Ireland in ships descending from the clouds on Beltane. They came from
the four great magical cities - Falias, Gorias, Finias and Murias - and brought with them the four
great treasures; the Lia Fail (Stone of Destiny), the sword of Lugh, a magic spear, and the cauldron
of the Dagda.
It was from these cities that the Tuatha De Dananns learned all their knowledge, skills and magic.
Indeed the De Dananns were said to be unmatched in their knowledge and beauty. From them,
comes the vast majority of Gods and Goddesses of the Irish Pantheon.
The enchanted dimension of Faery has existed side by side with our human one for thousands of
years. It is said that there was once a time when the human and Faery worlds were one. But legend
tells that our human ancestors became trapped in the physical world. They became less and less
aware of what was hidden just beyond their physical sight, and the vision of the Faery became lost to
them.
Elemental Faeries
The idea of calling the elements into our circles is a carry over from the days when the faeries were
asked to participate in our magic. But elemental faeries are not merely the four alchemical elements
of earth, air, fire, and water. We do them and ourselves a great disservice when we merely call them
to witness our circles. These faeries have personality and individuality. They are fully sentient beings
with feelings and rights. Think of that the next time you call them to your circle. It will greatly enhance
your experience. Elemental faeries can, and often will, aid human work, ritual, and magic if
approached properly.
The Faery spirit is the great force of energy moving through all things, empowering our magic.
The fae are shy creatures, made so by years of mistreatment and misunderstanding by humans.
They are jealous of the physical world which contain the living, breathing, trees and plant life they so
love and have so carefully reproduced in their own world. Our callous treatment of nature infuriates
them.

You must work first to win their trust. Plant a faery garden as a refuge for the little folk. Leave a
corner of it wild and uncultivated. Leaving out gifts of food and treasures for them is a good first step.
They love ground ginger, barley, sweets, cream, and anything that glitters. Also clean water, butter,
wine, honey, and bread. Never toss out faery libations like you would food for wild animals. They
consider this very disrespectful. Make up a little basket of your offerings and leave them on your
step, in your garden, or under a tree. Favorite faery stones are tiger's eye, peridot, jade, lava, fluorite,
and especially emerald. Don't expect these gifts to disappear, as faeries are able to extract the
spiritual essence of our physical gifts to them (so be sure to leave them in love and with deep
respect.) You will, however, have to replace these gifts often in order to keep the faery folk hanging
around.
The Faery Garden
Whatever you do to bring life to your garden will bring faeries as well. First of all, plant plants that
attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. This will also attract the fae. So put up hummingbird
feeders, bird feeders, bird baths, bird houses, even bat houses. Small fountains, ponds, faery
statues, or waterfalls are all good.
Here's a short list of plants that attract faeries to your garden:
Common yarrow, Achillea millefolium
New York aster, Aster novi-belgii
Shasta daisy, Chrysanthemum maximum
Western giant hyssop or horsemint, Agastache occidentalis
French lavender, Lavendula dentata
Rosemary, Rosemarinus officinalis
Thyme, Thymus
Fountain butterfly bush, Buddleia alternifolia
Orange-eye butterfly bush, summer lilac, Buddleia davidii
Shrubby cinquefoil, Potentilla fruitiosa
Common garden petunia, Petunia hybrida
Verbenas, vervains, Verbena
Pincushion flowers, Scabiosa caucasica
Cosmos, Cosmos bipinnatus
Common zinnia, Zinnia elegans
They also love the following plants and trees:

foxglove, primrose, ragwort, cowslips, pansies, bluebells, clover, St. John's wort, hazel, rowan,
blackthorn, oak, willow, elder, birch, alder, apple, ash, and especially toadstools.
Dedicating the Faery Garden
Once the garden is started, you might want to ritually dedicate it as a Faery garden sanctuary. Begin
by walking the around the garden with an athame pointed at its boundaries (much like casting a
circle). Then sprinkle the perimeter of the garden with a branch of fir dipped in salted spring water.
Finally, walk the boundaries of the garden with a lighted incense stick. (It can be left to burn in the
ground when you finish.) Then with a wand of hazel, slowly walk around the garden greeting each
plant with words like:
Spirits of the (insert plant name),
I welcome your presence in the garden.
Feel your love flow from your heart, down your wand, and out the end of the wand. Be sure to
welcome all plants, stones, and trees. (Nature spirits are easily offended.) Conclude your ritual with
these words:
In the name of the Goddess and the God,
I declare this garden a sanctuary
For the spirits of nature
And the children of the Gods.
When you are finished, leave a gift - cookies, soda, ale, cream, or bright, shiny things like rings,
beads, or stones.

Why do we cast a circle? A circle is a boundary of energy extending halfway above the ground and halfway below. It
marks the boundary between the worlds: inside the circle is a cleansed space where the two worlds can interact.
Outside is the mundane, 'regular' world.
A circle is cast to create a clean space in which to do ritual and magical workings. It creates an area in which both
worlds are present; in a very real sense, it is between the worlds. To invite a Deity, or an Elemental, etc. without a
circle (into the mundane world) isn't always such a great idea. It's easier to interact inside a circle. It also acts to keep
magical energy inside until it is ready to be released, or to keep negative energy outside.

First, ground and center yourself. Stand with both feet firmly on the ground, and relax your arms at the sides of your
body. Simply feel and visualize the energy of the Earth below you, and the Sky above you.
Face one of the directions, and physically reach down with your arm and gather the energy of the Earth into your
hand. Reach up to the Sky and gather the energy of the Sky into your other hand. Now scoot down near the ground
and face your palms outward, sending that energy into a smooth wall of colour that will spread itself into the shape of
a circle. Rise up as you do this, shaping and smoothing the wall at this corner.
Repeat this at the other three directions, constantly smoothing and shaping it with your hands. At each direction, the
circle gets stronger and thicker; there are no gaps because the energy of the circle constantly swirls around evenly.
See the energy as a thick, fluid stream of colour. It also flows under the ground, to even itself out as a complete
sphere. You can shape it underground by visualizing it through the floor. Solidify it by visualizing the energy of the
circle as sticking together, like hot glue or warm honey.
When you feel the circle is 'set', all you have to do now is keep it in mind, and perhaps make minor re-adjustments if
you feel it is necessary. Take as much time as you need, and don't rush. No one is holding a stopwatch. Don't be
afraid to move around spontaneously; no one is marking you on grace or coolness. And most importantly, don't be
afraid to screw up; that's an important way to learn.
You can make a physical circle using crystals, stones, rocks, salt, sticks or twigs, rune stones, earth or paper with
different symbols drawn on them, the symbol will represent what it is you want to use the circle for.
To uncast a circle At the very end of ritual. After the Deities are gone, the Element/als have returned to their
respective realms. The only thing that generally follows taking down the circle is eating, drinking, this brings you back
into the world. Take the circle down exactly the same way that you set it up, in reverse. Take as much time to take it
down as you took to set it up. Send the energy back into the Earth, the Sky, or wherever you chose to get it from. If
you used the energy from the Earth and Sky, then it's a good idea to change it into healing energy for our planet and
our skies before you channel it back.
Incense.. For thousands of years, people have used fragrant flowers, plants, and herbs as incense. Using smoke to
send prayers out to the gods is one of the oldest known forms of ceremony. From the censers of the Catholic church
to the Pagan bonfire rituals, incense is a powerful way to let your intent be known. You can make your own quite
easily, using a blend of herbs, flowers, wood bark, resins, and berries. Most of these are items you can grow yourself,
find in the woods, or purchase inexpensively. Making your own is best but you can buy them as smudge sticks,

Zoroastrianism keeps an eternal flame burning. A legend among the Polynesian Cook Islanders of the South Pacific
describes the descent of the culture hero Maui to the underworld, where he learned the art of making fire by rubbing
two sticks together. The Native American tribes, and the tribes of West Africa, paid homage to ancestral fire spirits.
The Aztec of Mexico acknowledged in their worship the fire god Xiuheuctli, who resembled their sun god. Among the
early Hindus, sacrifice to the fire was one of the first acts of morning devotion, and the hymns addressed to the fire
god Agni outnumbered those in praise of any other divinity. A belief common to all these cultures is that of fire being a

HOW TO USE A PENDULUM.

The pendulum is basically an amplifier. It is a tool that helps you to access the collective unconscious
and your Higher Self. You can get answers to anything you can come up with.
Every one is basically capable of working with the pendulum. Learning to work with it is like learning
to play an instrument. It requires constant practice and experimentation Making mistakes is part of
the learning process. The results you get will reflect your stage of spiritual/mental development. You
should not use the pendulum for egoistic reasons. Use it only for the well being of others or yourself.
REMEMBER: Swinging the pendulum requires that you be undivided and totally present in the
moment.
WHAT DO WE USE A PENDULUM FOR.
A pendulum is used for many things from the simplest Yes or No question to more complex, map
dowsing, writing out names, making important decisions, Tele-Radiesthesia.
THE TYPES OF PENDULUM.
They can also be Simple tear drop, ball-shaped, conical, spiral, made from brass, copper, crystal,
wood, ceramic. You can make your own pendulum with a piece of wool thread or string and a weight
on the end of it that is all you need. You can use stones or crystals for the weight. You can buy fancy
ones which are very beautiful.
SELECTING OR MAKING A PENDULUM.
When selecting a pendulum follow your intuition and choose one that you like. You can make a
pendulum yourself if you take a thread and hang a weigh on it which can be any object you like. The
thread can be 15 to 20 cm long. Tie a knot in the thread at the length where the swing of the
pendulum feels the best.
PROGRAMMING YOUR PENDULUM
You can ask about anything you like with the pendulum if the question can be answered with YES or
NO. But first you have to determine what each pendulum movement means for you.
Take a seated position at a desk or table. Place you feet flat on the floor resting your elbow on the
desk. Hold the pendulum by the end of chain between your thumb and index finger. Make sure that

your upper body and back are straight, that the energy can flow freely. Put your other hand flat on the
table. Relax. Let your breath flow calmly. Make sure before you start that you will be undistracted. Do
not swing the pendulum when you are tired. Hold your pendulum over the center of a circle like the
one on the drawing and ask: What does a YES look like? than What does a NO look like?
The pendulum can turn in the following directions: swing up-down, left-right or swirl in a circle left or
right. Practice several times a day for at least a week. Once you have determined your YES and NO
do not deviate from it. When you programmed your pendulum test it. Prove to yourself that it really
works. Ask questions you already know the answer. Otherwise always assume an unattached and
unbiased attitude. When you have determined a clear Yes and No, ask your pendulum how it swings
for I do not want to answer or I can not answer that. REMEMBER: a correct answer will follow
only when the question is asked in the right way.
OTHER WAYS TO USE THE PENDULUM
You can place your pendulum directly over an object and test it. It can tell you if a pregnant woman is
having a boy or a girl. You may want to test your water, groceries, medications, gemstones, flower
remedies, determine what therapies are good for you by writing down the name of couple of them.
You can test the energy of your house, evaluate your sleeping space and much more..
In order to work easier with the pendulum, you can work with charts like the one on the drawing.
Practice makes perfect, you won't be good at it straight away but with practice you will pick it up in no
time.
