CHAMPION/DATA/ISSUE 5

Hi and welcome to the first H&A edition of the Fantasy Freakos rave for 2012. It was a solid start for most coaches last week, but in saying that there would
have been plenty that were irate at some of the subpar performances we saw. Dont get too carried away though and pull the trigger this early. Give them at
least one more game to redeem themselves.
Enjoy this weeks read and remember that Round 2 is also a partial lockout, so make sure that you lock in your Carlton and Brisbane players away prior to
Thursday. Take note, reversible trades will only work until the partial lockout. After that they stick.

POOR START
There is nothing more demoralising than seeing your players start the year
off with absolute shockers. That was the case for several last round, with
the biggest disappointment being Brian Lake. Normally you wouldnt go
anywhere near a full-back, but in this instance we were all sucked in by his
tempting starting price. Just on 30% of coaches had to watch him record
a dismal eight disposals and 29 DT points against the Eagles, which was
only seven more points than Izzys return. Corey Enright was another
player that let his coaches down, finishing with 11 disposals, one mark
and 38 points. Hes done very little over the pre-season and was always
going to struggle early, so he can be somewhat excused.
Of the kids, Brandon Ellis was one player I expected more from. Admittedly
he was a youngster in his first game, but as soon as you step over that
line you will be judged like everyone else regardless of age. Hes a quality
player and I expect a better showing this week against Collingwood.
Another player that deserves an honourable mention that doesnt feature
in the below table is Steven Morris. As a mature-age recruit I was bitterly
disappointed with his return, collecting only one disposal and three points
in the first half, managing only 24 more points after that.

ROOKIES DID US PROUD

For the most part, our rookies did the job for us last week. It was headed
by the mature-agers, with James McDonald putting in a super display
against the Swans, finishing with 23 disposals, six tackles and 98 DT
points. Team mate Jonathan Giles took it right up to Shane Mumford,
finishing with 12 disposals, 26 hitouts and a respectable 77 points. It was
one of the kids that really stood out though, with Adam Kennedy starring
across half-back, picking up a team-high 28 disposals and 116 points.
Sadly many coaches had him sitting on the pine. What a waste!
If you dont have any of the below players in your team, then it may be
a good idea to bring them in after the next round before their price sky
rockets!

ADELAIDE
PATRICK DANGERFIELD

IAN CALLINAN

I was getting nervous at half time last week when Dangerfield was on 29
DT points from 10 disposals. Thankfully he lifted after that, collecting 15
disposals and 60 points booting two goals along the way.

This guy has more strings to his bow than Jason Porplyzia, hence
making him a better DT pick. He outscored the latter by 41 points last
week, finishing with 18 disposals, two goals and 99 points. That score
would have been much higher had he converted his five behinds into
goals.

PEARCE HANLEY

Rockliff demonstrated last week that hes a DT gun no matter where he

plays. He was used predominantly as a forward against Melbourne, but
that didnt affect his output, racking up 130 DT points the equal fifthbest return for the round.

It looks like Hanley is set for a big year. He dominated last week against
the Demons, finishing with 23 disposals and 120 DT points. Playing
further up the ground than last season, he also drifted forward to score
two majors.

CARLTON
BRYCE GIBBS

KANE LUCAS

After losing his DPP status, only 5% of coaches have jumped on Gibbs
this season which is a massive drop from last year. He showed everyone
why hes a DT gun in Round 1 against the Tigers, finishing with 104
points from his 22 disposals.

As he did in the opening round last season, Lucas started as the

substitute. If he has another sub affected performance against Brisbane
this week, then his place in your side has to be questioned.

Three disposals and 22 DT points is what we got from Stephenson

last round. At this rate his early prices rises are likely to be small, so
hopefully he can lift his game and post some better numbers over the
coming rounds.

ZACHARY SMITH

Theres not much more we can say about Ablett. His 136 DT points was
the second-best return of any player.

If you have Smith as your second ruckman then I would question his
position in your team. His 68 DT points against Adelaide was bettered by
Jonathan Giles and equalled by debutant Jarrad Redden.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

JEREMY CAMERON

DOM TYSON

Will job security be enough to hold onto Cameron? We know that he will
play, but his scores wont be consistent considering hes a key position
player. After managing 14 DT points in the first half against the Swans, a
move to defence in the second saw him improve, adding 25 to his tally.

Theres a bit of Andrew Gaff about Tyson. He started the opening round
as the substitute and he could very well play that role early on. If he gets
the vest again this week his first price rise wont be as high as other
cash cows.

Hodge was a shock no show last week against Collingwood after suffering a calf injury at training in the lead up to the match. He wont be

A sub affected seven disposals and 18 DT points is what Boumann

produced last week on debut against the Magpies. Being a key

nonetheless.

Marics role as the No.1 ruckman this year will see him post some solid

After so much hype over the pre-season, Martin failed to deliver last

Almost 11% of coaches have taken advantage of Hayes reduced price

SYDNEY SWANS
KIEREN JACK

HARRY CUNNINGHAM

I pumped Jack up a few weeks ago and I hope you listened. He started
the year in fine fashion against the Giants, finishing a game high 30
disposals on his way to 115 DT points. His tackling was relentless as
always, applying an equal game-high seven.

It was no surprise to anyone that Cunningham started as the sub

against the Giants. With Ryan OKeefe and Rhyce Shaw both expected
to return in Round 2, hell be the first player to go.

WEST COAST EAGLES

BEAU WATERS

MATT ROSA

If Waters can remain injury free then he looms as a decent defensive

option. He finished with 16 disposals, seven marks, five tackles and
83 DT points last week against the Bulldogs

Rosa is one player that can find plenty of the ball in space, which is
a pretty good trait to have as a Dream Teamer. He finished with 31
disposals and 10 marks last week against the Bulldogs, posting a
game-high 127 DT points.

@FantasyFreako - Josh Kennedy must have a thing for the Bulldogs. Hes
booted 22 goals against them in his past four games.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
TORY DICKSON

CHRISTIAN HOWARD

I dont think Dickson did enough last week to hold his place in the side.
He failed to score a goal and finished with only 12 disposals, three marks
and 37 DT points. If he does get the chop, then you may have to consider
doing likewise.

Howard could only manage 11 disposals and 40 DT points last week

before he was injured early in the final term. Hes expected to spend
a couple of weeks on the sidelines, denting the hopes of those that
selected him.

@FantasyFreako - Clay Smith was mighty unlucky to get overlooked for the
Round 1 NAB AFL Rising Star nomination. Four goals straight on debut was
an amazing effort.
