Nevertheless, the driver can decide to change the operation of any of the system’s components at any time.
Each time the speed of the fans or the driver or passenger unit flaps are changed manually or the ECO, reheat or
pre-heater functions are pressed, the manual screen will appear showing the symbols of the components which
are functioning in manual mode.
Manual screen.
The controls come on automatically as soon as the vehicle is started up. At this point a check is made of all the
systems and the following message is displayed on the screen:
Immediately after making this check, the automatic operation screen will be displayed, with the temperatures
saved the last time the climate unit was switched off.

Automatic screen.
If the check detects an error, the error screen will be displayed (see section: Detection and Indication of Errors).
It is possible to switch on the climatization system by pressing the (3) key, even though the engine is stopped,
providing the ignition switch is on. Since in this situation the battery is not charging, only the driver’s heater and
ventilation will operate with the minimum fan speed.
You can switch off the driver climate unit manually by holding down the (3) key for 2 seconds. It will be
indicated on the following screen.
To select the desired temperature for the driver unit, press the (2) or (1) keys.
If the passenger climatization unit is on, the selected temperature for the driver unit can be between +3º C (5º F)
and –3º C (5º F) of that selected for the passengers’ area. This means, if the selected passengers’ area
temperature is 22º C (72ºF), the driver can choose between 19º and 25º C (66º and 77ºF).
If the passenger climatization unit is off, the above limit does not apply and the driver can select any temperature
between 17º C (63º F) and 27º C (82º F).
The upper limit for the driver temperature is HI and in this position the heating will operate at maximum power
continuously. The lower limit is LO and in this case the air conditioning will operate at maximum power
continuously.
Páge 6 of 51
To adjust the fan speed of the driver unit, press the (4) and (5) keys.
The driver unit fan speed can be selected between 5 levels. If you adjust the automatic speed setting selected by
the Ecomaster Comfort, the new speed selected will be displayed on the screen and the red LED next to the
(3) key will go off.
The selected speed can range from 1 to 5, with the following limitations:
• If the compressor is on, the speed will never be lower than 3 to prevent the evaporator freezing.
• If the driver climate unit is off and the passenger climatization unit needs the compressor to switch on, the
driver’s fans will come on at speed 2 to prevent the evaporator freezing.
When the speed of the fans of the driver climate unit is adjusted manually, the Manual screen will be displayed.
Páge 7 of 51
If the driver node is set to climatization, the position of the recirculation flaps can be adjusted using the driver unit
key (6). You can select either air from outside (renewal) or inside (recycling).
When the recirculation flaps are adjusted manually, the following display will appear on the screen:
If the driver node is set to climatization, the position of the floor/windscreen flaps can be adjusted using the (7)
key.
When the position of the floor/windscreen vents is adjusted manually, the following display will appear on the
screen:
If the position of the driver unit recirculation flaps, floor/windscreen flaps, or the speed of the defroster are
adjusted manually, or if the pre-heater, defroster or ECO mode are manually switched on, the driver climate unit
changes to manual mode, and the LED located next to the (3) key goes off.
Páge 8 of 51
By pressing driver unit key (3) all the driver unit controls are switched back to automatic and, if the passenger
node is also set to automatic, the automatic screen appears as shown below.
Automatic screen.
It is possible to switch on the climatization system by pressing key (15) even though the engine is stopped,
providing the ignition is on. Since in this situation the battery is not charging, in order to prevent it going flat, it will
not be possible to switch on the fan and you will only be able to have heating with the convector system.
The passenger node can be switched off manually by holding down key (15) for 2 seconds. In this case, the
part of the screen corresponding to the passenger unit will remain blank.
To adjust the desired temperature in the passengers’ area, press keys (16) and (17) .
The selected temperature can be between 17ºC (63ºF) and 27ºC (82ºF).
The upper passenger unit temperature limit is HI and in this position the heating will operate at maximum power
continuously. The lower limit is LO and in this case the air conditioning will operate at maximum power
continuously.

To adjust the speed of the evaporator fans, press passenger unit keys (13) and (14).
The selected speed can range from 1 to 5, with the following limitations:
• If only the driver climatization unit is on and the compressor is switched on, speed 2 will automatically be
switched on in the passenger unit.
When the speed of the evaporator fans is adjusted manually, the Manual screen will be displayed.
1.10. Adjusting the position of the passenger unit air recirculation flaps.
If the passengers’ climatization is on, the position of recirculation flaps can be adjusted using passenger unit key
(11).
The flaps will alternate between the positions for outside air (Renewal) and inside air (Recirculation), with the
following limitations:
• If you have pressed key (9), the recirculation flaps will be set to outside air.
• If the vehicle does not have roof heating installed, the flaps will be in the inside air (recirculation)
position if the temperature inside is more than two degrees below the selected level.
• If the inside temperature does not exceed the selected temperature minus 2ºC for more than 4
minutes, the flaps will automatically reset to the recirculation position.
Páge 10 of 51
When you adjust the position of the recirculation flaps manually the manual screen will be displayed.
If the position of the passenger unit recirculation flaps or the speed of the evaporator fans are adjusted manually,
or if the pre-heater, defroster or ECO mode are selected manually, the passenger climatization will switch to
manual and the LED located next to key (15) will go off.
By pressing passenger key (15) all the settings return to automatic and, if the driver node is also set to
automatic, the automatic screen is displayed indicating the outside temperature and the one selected for the
driver’s area and that of the passengers.
The ECO option allows the driver to switch off the compressor of the air-conditioning unit in atmospheric
conditions in which its use is not regarded as necessary. While the ECO option is on it is not possible to switch on
the compressor.
To switch on the ECO option, press the (12) key.
This option is switched off by re-pressing the (12) key or pressing the driver or passenger unit keys
(3),(15).
If you press the defrost key (9) while the ECO option is on, it will be switched off.
When you select the ECO option, the following Manual screen will be displayed.
At any time, if you press down key (12) for 2 seconds, the screen changes to the clock
programming function.
Here the screen will appear as shown below, allowing the setting of the day of the week, hour and minutes.
With the driver unit (1) and (2) keys, we can select the day, the hour or the minutes which will appear on
the screen against a dark background, while the passenger keys (16) and (17) allow us to adjust the
settings of the chosen field.
Confirmation of the time programmed is given by pressing key (3),(15) or by simply letting a few seconds pass
without pressing any keys. Once the time has been validated in this way the screen will return to the previous
display.
1.14. Pre-heater.
The pre-heater can be programmed to come on twice in days and time. Each of the programmes sets the day
and time when we want the bus to be warm (the controls calculate what time the pre-heater needs to come on in
order to do so).
To enter programming, press the (8) key for 2 seconds, and you will enter the screen for the first program. If
you press for another 2 seconds, you will enter the screen for the second program. Each of these screens ahs a
flame symbol with a number which indicates if it is program 1 or 2.
Páge 12 of 51
Use the driver unit (1) and (2) keys to move between the fields of day, hour, minutes and Activation. The
selected field will be highlighted in bold as shown in the drawing.
With passengers’ keys (16) and (17) you can adjust the settings of the selected field.
You can program any day from Monday to Sunday or 7 days (for all the days of the week).
The programs for a single day are erased once completed (they are set to OFF). Those for 7 days remain at
AUTO for the following day.
Once the day and time have been set, the program has to be Activated. To do this you have to place the cursor
over the “Activate” field and adjust it from OFF to AUTO by using passenger keys (16) and (17).
If you want to switch off a program, you simply go into the programmed pre-heater mode and change the
“Activate” field from AUTO to OFF.
The pre-heater program always operates as long as we are not in diagnostic mode.
The programmed pre-heater indication will appear on the screen when the batteries are switched off. On the
screen a hollow flame symbol appears with the number 1 (program 1) and/or a hollow flame with number 2
(program 2).
If the pre-heater is operating because one of the programs switches it on, the flame of the corresponding symbol
is shown filled in.
NOTE: The pre-heater will not come on if the outside temperature is above 15ºC.
Páge 13 of 51
Mode Description
AUTO The pre-heater comes on if it is necessary and the outside temperature is below 15º or the
outside sensor is broken.
ON The pre-heater comes on for the selected time, (unless you are in diagnostic mode) and then
returns to AUTO mode. If you select the MAX time, the pre-heater continues to operate for 2
hours after the motor of the vehicle has stopped.
OFF Switches off the pre-heater whether in AUTO or ON mode
Once the ON mode is selected, after a few seconds the screen will show the pre-heater operating symbol.
To see how much longer the pre-heater is programmed to operate, simply press briefly key (8) and the screen
below will appear in which the time remaining will be displayed below the illuminated flame symbol.

With the batteries cut-off on, press key (10) to view the real inside temperatures in the driver’s and passengers’
areas.
After a few seconds, the screen returns to the display shown before pressing key (10).
If you want to demist the windows, both in the driver’s and passengers’ areas, you use the reheat option.
You switch on the reheat option by pressing key (9) when the panel is in climatization mode, that is, it only
works if the vehicle’s engine is running.
Demisting lasts 15 minutes and can be switched off at any time by re-pressing driver or passenger keys (9) or
(3), (15).
The Manual screen appears when you switch on the reheat option.
NOTE: if you press key (9) while the ECO option is on, this will be switched off, since the compressor has to
cut in for defrosting.

The Ecomaster Comfort consists of two elements: the driver node and the passenger node.
To install the driver node in the dashboard it is necessary to prepare an opening 180.5 x 53.5 mm.
To install the passenger node, you must take into account the position of the mounting bore holes shown in the
diagram.
Páge 19 of 51
At the back of the units there are four Junior Power Timer AMP connectors with 6, 9, 18 and 21 pins.
Páge 20 of 51
We will now explain the function of each of the terminals of the Ecomaster Comfort connectors
In the tables you will find the following abbreviations:
• V: Voltage to which the output is connected. The output can take power from the Vcc1 (+MCS) or Vcc2
(+30) input
• In: Nominal intensity allowed in the output.
• Ip: Maximum peak intensity in the output on start up (250ms).
• Dcarga: Minimum load in Amperes for the system to detect that there is a device connected to this output.
NOTE: If the device to be connected to a particular output exceeds the maximum consumption allowed at this
output indicated in In, it will be necessary to install a relay between the CPU and the device, otherwise
irreversible damage will be caused to the electronics.

The Ecomaster Comfort has three different voltage inputs all located in the 9-pin NC1 connector. Each of these
inputs has a specific function.
• +MCS: NC1 Driver and Passengers Pos. 4 and 5.Connected to the Central Safety Control (on the battery
before the main switch) it allows the climatizer to maintain its memory even when the main switch is off. The
functions associated with the pre-heater (switching on the pre-heater, valves and water pumps, air flaps and
driver unit additional heater fans) take their power from this supply.

The renewal flaps are worked by an electric motor. This electric motor can be connected to the electronic system
in two different ways:
• Directly to positions 1 and 2 of the NC3D connector which are outputs with reverse polarity. In this case,
the electronic system stops providing power to the outputs 15 seconds after moving the flaps to the Closed or
Open position to avoid the motor overheating.
• Through an inverter relay located in the relay box of the electrical unit which performs the inversion of
polarity functions. This inverter relay must be triggered by pin 1 of NC3D. In this case the motor will always be
powered.
The floor/windscreen flaps are operated via a motor with return of position which must be connected as explained
below:
• Terminals 4 and 6 of the motor are connected to NC3D pins Pos. 10 and 11.
• Terminal 2 of the motor, which is the return of the potentiometer which indicates the angle of rotation of
the motor, is connected to Pos. 15 of NC3D.
• Terminals 1 and 3 of the motor are connected to +MCS and GND.
NOTE: If upon checking the installation of the unit you find that the flaps are in the opposite position to that
displayed on the screen, you should switch over the cables of the motor which are connected to terminals 4 and
6.
Páge 25 of 51
If the vehicle has a pre-heater, Pos.3 of NC3D is connected to the input of the pre-heater which operates the
pump.
In the case of motorized valves with return of position, the connection is made as follows:
• Connect terminals 4 and 6 of the motor to NC3D Pos. 4,5.
• Connect terminal 2 of the motor, which is the valve’s return position, to NC4D Pos.12.
• In addition, supply ends 1 and 3 of the potentiometer of the valve with GND and +MCS.
NOTE: If upon checking the installation you detect that the valve opens instead of closing or vice-versa, you must
switch over the cables of the motor which are connected to terminals 1 and 3.

To function correctly, the Ecomaster Comfort’s Driver’s Node requires 4 temperature sensors:
• Inside temperature sensor: Mounted in the evaporator suction. This is the reference temperature for the
driver’s area.
• Channel temperature sensor: Located inside the driver’s air distribution channel. It is responsible for
maintaining a stable temperature in the air blown through the nozzles during the heating regulation.
• Ice Sensor. Fitted between the battery and the evaporator fans. It will warn the system of the possibility of
ice forming in the evaporator.
• Outside temperature sensor: Located outside the vehicle.

Communication.
For communication between the driver and passenger nodes, the same as for the communication with the
chassis, there are two CAN 2B lines which must be connected as shown below:

The air renewal flaps are operated by an electric motor. This motor can be connected to the electronic system in
two different ways:
• Directly to positions 2 and 3 of the NC3P connector which are outputs with inversion of polarity. In this
case, the electronic system stops supplying power to the outputs 15 seconds after having moved the flaps to their
closed or open position to avoid the motor overheating.
• Through an inverter relay located in the relay box of the electrical installation which performs the polarity
inversion functions. This inverter relay must be triggered from pin 3 of NC3P. In this case the motor will always be
powered.
•
Passenger floor heating circuit water valve.
In the case of motorized valves with return of position make the connections as follows:
• Connect terminals 4 and 6 of the motor to NC3P Pos. 4,8.
• Connect terminal 2 of the motor, which is the return position of the valve, to NC4P Pos.12.
• In addition, power is supplied to ends 1 and 3 of the valve motor’s potentiometer with GND and

Generally this heater is mounted in the staircase of the vehicle’s rear exit, as extra back-up to the heating system
in countries with extremely low temperatures in winter.
It has two fan speeds, the lower (V1) is for regulating the inside temperature of the vehicle in winter and the
higher speed (V2) comes on when the door is opened to create a curtain of air to prevent the cold air outside
coming in.
Both speeds can be connected directly to the electronic control system without the need for a relay providing the
motor does not exceed the maximum output load of 10 and 5 Amperes for V2 and V1 respectively.
• In the case of fans with blades, there are three speeds which can be achieved through the
connection of the fans, via relays, to positions 14,15 and 16 of NC3P.
• For motors without blades with speed control through a PWM control there is a separate output
for the right and left side of the vehicle and you connect the electronic control of a motor without
blades to positions 19 and 20 of NC3P. When speed control is through PWM, you will have 5
speeds.
• The condenser fans can be connected via a relay to position 11 of NC3 with which you
will have a single speed
• There is an alternative in the case of motors without blades which is to connect their
electronic systems directly to pos.17 of NC3. In this way, the condenser fans can work at three
different speeds which are controlled at all times via the Ecomaster Comfort depending on the
outside temperature.

The recycling pump which is usually used in systems which have floor heating installed, is connected to pos. 7 of
NC3P providing the maximum load does not exceed 3.5 amps. Otherwise it will have to be connected via a relay.
To operate correctly, the Passenger Node of the Ecomaster Comfort requires 4 temperature sensors:
• Inside temperature sensor: Mounted in the evaporator suction. This is the reference temperature for the
passenger cabin.
• Channel temperature sensor: Located inside the passengers’ air distribution channel 1.5 metres from the
last turbine. It is responsible for maintaining a stable temperature in the air blown through the nozzles during the
heating regulation.
• Ice Sensor. Fitted between the battery and the evaporator fans. It will warn the system of the possibility of
ice forming in the evaporator.
• Water temperature sensor: Located in the heating unit.

As an option, relative humidity sensors can be installed to detect and warn of dirty air filters.
Communication.
For communication between driver and passenger nodes, as in the communication with the chassis, there are
two CAN 2B lines which must be connected in the following way:
The Ecomaster Comfort can operate with two different types of climatization system which depend on the heating
elements installed in the vehicle and how these are installed.: roof heater batteries and floor convectors.
In addition, it can control air conditioning systems with an additional compressor for the driver’s unit.
The indication of the type of heating system installed and whether the additional compressor has to be controlled
by the Ecomaster is given by an internal variable called POT.
The Ecomaster Comfort allows for the following POTs:
Páge 34 of 51
For it to detect the system correctly, the recirculation valves and pump must be connected directly to the CPU,
i.e., with no intermediate relays and their consumption must be above the values for downloads in the connector
table of NC3 input-outputs.
Páge 35 of 51
When the Ecomaster Comfort performs the first AutoCheck it memorizes the components detected and takes as
its POT the one which corresponds to those components according to the previous table.
If no valve is detected by the control system it will select the POT 2 configuration (only floor heating system).
If upon performing an AutoCheck the control fails to detect one of these elements which it had detected
previously, the corresponding error is displayed. (On the Error screen you will be able to see which heating
elements are missing). This error will correct itself by connecting the loads correctly or removing and replacing
the +MCS.
If upon performing an AutoCheck new loads are detected which had not been detected in the previous one, a
new POT will be selected corresponding to all the loads detected in the last AutoCheck according to the previous
table.
To do this, you enter Diagnostic by simultaneously pressing keys (1),(16) + (2),(17) + (10). Once you
are in Diagnostic mode, you must go to the POT screen by pressing key (9). From this screen you select the
right value by holding down key (9) while at the same time increasing or decreasing the POT value using the
keys (1), (16) and (2),(17).
Páge 36 of 51
NOTE: Once the POT has been selected, if the climatizer loses the battery power supply, it will not be necessary
to reset it as it is stored in the system’s memory. This must be borne in mind if an Ecomaster Comfort CPU is
changed from one vehicle to another with a different heating configuration. In that case, for the system to function
correctly, the new vehicle’s heating POT must be inserted manually.
5. Operating modes.
The Ecomaster Comfort has three different supply inputs all located on the 9-pin NC1 connector. Each of these
inputs has a specific function.
• +MCS: Driver and Passenger NC1 Pos. 4 and 5.Connected to the Central Safety Control (On the battery,
before the main switch). This allows the memory of the climatizer to be retained even when the main switch is off.
The functions associated with the pre-heater (Switching on the pre-heater, valves and water pumps, air flap and
driver’s additional heater fans) receive power from this supply.
• +30: Driver and Passenger NC1 Pos. 7,8 and 9. Connected beyond the battery main switch. This permits
power supply to the fans of the driver climate unit, staircase fans, evaporator and condenser fans of the
passenger climatization unit, and the compressor and fans of the rear door heater unit.
• INPUT 4: NC1 Driver Pos. 6. Connected to the alternator, it indicates whether the engine is running and
the batteries charging. When there is power to this point, the Ecomaster Comfort switches on automatically,
allowing all the climatization functions to operate
An input is considered as having power if the voltage reading on the corresponding terminal is above 22VDC
Depending on the state of the supply in each of these three inputs, the Ecomaster Comfort will be in one of these
three operating modes.
• Sleeping: Power supply in +MCS but not in +30 or in the alternator input (INPUT4). The control is off and
can only perform pre-heater functions, maintain the memory and read the temperatures of the sensors. No
climatization function is possible. You can enter the Diagnostic screen, but only those components connected to
+MCS can be switched on (see tables of the functions of the connectors).
• Wake-up: Power supply in +MCS and +30 but the alternator is stopped (motor stopped) so there is no
input in terminal 6 of NC1C. In these conditions the control is off, although certain driver climatization functions
can be switched on by pressing driver’s key (3). Since the alternator is stopped and is not charging the
battery, the fans of the driver’s Climatization Unit can only operate at minimum speed. You can enter the
Diagnostic screen
• Active: Power supply in +MCS, +30 and the alternator is charging the battery. The Ecomaster Comfort
can perform all the climatization functions, enter the Diagnostic menu and switch off.

All the temperature sensors of the Ecomaster Comfort are PTC1000 type.
To check the functioning of the temperature sensors you can use the attached table which indicates the relation
between temperature and the resistance that must be measured between the sensor terminals.

• Check that the voltage between terminals nº 3 and nº 5 of the passenger node connector NC4P is 5 Volts
DC.
• Check that the voltage between terminals nº 4 and nº 5 of the passenger node connector NC4P is
between 1 and 3 Volts approximately.

Another possibility is to take it close to a light bulb and check the difference in voltage between the two ends,
which should be between 0.1 and 0.2 Volts approximately.
