SAVE APPROXIMATELY Rs. 1.8 CRORES

THE CLIENT
The company is a pioneer in Engineering, Procurement and Construction services for Renewable and Conventional Power Facilities in India and has been providing services to the power industry for six decades. It is recognized as a leader in design and installation in Power and Alternative Energy. The company has been in business for over 25 years offering EPC services to the heavy industrial sector.
To set up a solar power plant at Nokh, Rajasthan the client chose DIESL as their logistics service provider.
DIESLs scope of work for the Nokh site was as under:

Customs clearance for all imported containers at Mundra (Kandla) port

Primary transportation from Mundra port to Nokh site
Return of empty containers from site to Mundra CFS
To provide 14MT normal hydra for material handling, forklift for solar mirrors unloading & RT 40 Crain for
heavy material shifting and handling purpose
Providing and managing labour for unloading mirrors

CHALLENGES IN THE PROJECT

Challenges in unloading the solar module pallets
from the first 200 containers were:

Size of the solar module pallet was 5.5 Feet (L)*

3.5 Feet (W) * 5.7 Feet (H), for which forklift
with extended forks were required. This specialized forklift with 5.5 feet extended forks was
not available in India due to which, the consignment was on hold at the site for 3 days.

Approximately 80% of solar mirror plates were

found crushed inside the wooden box when
they were opened for unloading purpose. These mirrors were packed in a wooden frame by
the clients supplier based at U.S.A.
Supplier was not aware of Indian road conditions,

and packed the cargo according to US road infrastructure which resulted in damage to cargo while
moving it from port to site.

DIESLS SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTION

To unload the solar module pallets at the site,

within 48 hours DIESL innovated by making a
5.5 feet fork with 100 MM iron sheet which was
attached as an extension on the forks on the
normal telescopic forklift. This helped the team
in unloading the material without any damage.

DIESL informed the client about the condition

of the first 200 consignments and suggested

the customer to allow the repacking of the next

slot of solar mirror pallets at the port. After receiving the clients approval, DIESL checked all
the imported containers at the port to identify
the damaged consignment and arranged manpower, forklift, packing vendor for the repacking activity.

GLIMPSE OF THE UNLOADING ACTIVITY AT THE SITE AREA

FINAL OUTCOME

With the solution of iron plate extension on the

forks, DIESL optimized the forklift cost for the
customer. The imported forklift rental cost for
the client was very high at approximately Rs. 20
lakhs per year.
With the customized forklift solution DIESL was
able to roll out the site installation work within
3 working days. Due to this, the customer was
able to save on the detention charges for the
containers as well as the trailers.

With the solution of repacking the solar pallets,

DIESL again protected the client from a loss of
Rs. 1.6 crores (4000 mirrors were repacked at
the port, and the cost of each mirror was Rs.
4000).

With timely action and innovative solutions,

DIESL helped the client to save losses worth approximately Rs. 1.8 crores on the project.
