Field Vibration Service
Metro Pumps and Systems, Inc. will provide the
manpower, tools and equipment to perform
vibration analysis. Vibration analysis consists of the
measurement of broadband acceleration and
velocity amplitudes at each accessible bearing. In
addition, in order to diagnose specific mechanical
faults, on-the-spot frequency analysis and other
necessary tests will be performed on any unit
generating amplitudes in excess of industry-wide
standards. A detailed report will be submitted that
will provide raw data, vibration severity, fault
diagnoses and recommendations for corrective
action for each unit tested. All testing will be
conducted in accordance with the standards listed
for the type of equipment by the Hydraulic
Institute.
Vibration analysis is essentially the heartbeat of all
mechanical equipment. Capturing this vibration in
a number of different forms allows an experienced
vibration analyst to diagnose equipment ailments,
such as worn bearings, imbalance, and
misalignment by measuring the amplitude and
frequency of the vibration. With this knowledge,
customers can prevent equipment problems well
before they affect production.

Preventative Maintenance
As the demands on in-house manpower increase,
“do more with less” mentality, we are finding
pumps and motors failing at alarming rates. The
root cause for the increase has been simply the
lack of or contaminated lubricants. Thousands of
dollars are spent repairing equipment which, if
properly lubricated and maintained, would provide
years of service. Metro Pumps will provide the
following services:
• Meet with you and/or your staff to determine
your needs and goals. Complete an
equipment survey using existing machinery
records and a plant walk through
• Identify critical and non-critical equipment
for the facility
• Conduct a needs assessment for all
equipment involved
• Determine immediate repairs required prior
to the start of the preventative maintenance
program
• Design a program that meets the OEM’s
recommendations for maintenance

Performance Testing
Individual pump performance tests can be
conducted. Data will be recorded at a
predetermined number of test points (pending
plant operating conditions during the testing).
Pump head will be varied via throttling the valve on
the discharge of each pump. Data to be recorded
include:
• Suction and discharge pressure
• Pump flow in gpm via a transit time
ultrasonic flow meter
• Pump / motor speed
• Motor amperage, voltage, power and power
factor
Pump performance will be calculated. Operating
points will be plotted vs. the design curve for
comparison. Field data sheets and computer
generated performance calculations with graphs
will be supplied. Copies of the summary report
detailing the results of the testing, as well as all
field observations, identified problems and
proposed recommendations will be supplied for
review.
*All equipment is calibrated to traceable NIST
standards and schedule of the National Balancing
Bureau. The testing will be conducted to conform
to Hydraulic Institute Standards.
