JOB PROFILE
The United States Peace Corps Cameroon is recruiting a Community Health Technical Trainer for use
during its training events. The position requires a great degree of energy, flexibility and creativity and
includes living in remote locations within Cameroon sometimes to deliver training.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Technical Trainer is required to facilitate Pre-service Training for Peace Corps Trainees and other
training events as needed involving Peace Corps Volunteers and host country nationals according to
Peace Corps training standards. The technical areas of expertise include Maternal, Neonatal and Child
Health, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition, as well as community based approaches to health
programming.
Basic Functions

Participate in the Pre-Service Training Design activities including the design of the training
calendar, hands-on activities and identification of local resources.
Deliver technical sessions to trainees.
Organize, prepare and coordinate the execution of hands-on activities and field trips.
Supervise Peace Corps Volunteer Trainers involved in Pre-Service Training (including session
preparation, facilitation and feedback).
Assist in the preparation of technical training logistics plans.
Supervise Trainee Directed Activities (TDAs) and other field work
Provide formal and informal performance evaluation to trainees.
Assess trainee progress toward meeting technical training objectives and achieving suitability for
Volunteer service.
Provide written documentation of individual trainee progress and participate in scheduled
feedback sessions.
Assist in determining the technical content of the competency-based language curriculum.
Prepare and submit training reports.
Prepare all required trainee assessment documentation and program evaluation reports.
Serve as a cultural guide for trainees when needed.
Organize technical tutoring sessions with trainees with special needs.
Ensure the enforcement of Peace Corps Safety and Security policies during trainings.

Required Qualifications
Applicant must be a Cameroonian citizen or have authorization to work in Cameroon, must not have been
employed in intelligence-related activities, and must submit an application that clearly documents how
she/he meets each of the following qualifications:
University degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or related field (or have equivalent, seniorlevel experience in the field of community/public health);

Minimum five (5) years experience in community health and/or program administration
trainings;
Experience designing and implementing technical training for adults (Peace Corps and/or Peace
Corps in-country training experience is a plus);
Demonstrated technical knowledge in health education and behavior change communication;
Understanding of and experience in gender issues;
Knowledge of public health programs and structures at the national, regional and community
levels;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English. Ability to understand,
explain and communicate technical material in both languages;
Demonstrated superior writing and reporting skills;
Demonstrated cross cultural skills (preferably with Americans);
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a team;
Willingness to travel extensively under difficult road/lodging conditions;
