Professional Growth Plan Template

Directions: Complete this guide for your Professional Growth Plan. You will first establish an instructional goal that forms the basis for an 8-week
professional growth plan. Submit this completed plan in Unit 2 in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Course Project in ED5501. You are
expected to monitor and adjust this plan as you continue through the course. A revised plan, if appropriate, is submitted in Unit 10.
If you have developed a Professional Development Plan (or similar document) for your school district or organization for the current school year,
consider how your eight-week goal for instructional improvement might fit into your overall yearly plan. Likewise, consider how your goal might
relate to any grade level or department goals that you may have established.
Note for administrators:
Be sure to inform your instructor if you need to develop a modified alternative course project. Your instructor will work with you to develop a project
commensurate with that of the teaching members of the course. General guidelines for current administrators: To meet your professional growth
needs, develop and implement the professional growth plan from a perspective of instructional leader. You will focus on improving your observation
and feedback skills to help instructors improve instruction. Modifications should include working with instructors on planning and improving
instruction in lieu of planning and teaching a lesson. (See assignments in Unit 4, Unit 7, and Unit 8.) Plan to conduct multiple observations of
instructors and coaching conversations. Address all of the categories in the this template. Similar to the instructor professional growth plan above,
use the Framework for Teaching and the 2+2 model as you develop your strategies for working with instructors.

Goal Statement and Rationale

When considering a goal statement, refer to Domains 1, 2 and 3 in the Framework for Teaching to identify aspects of your instructional
practice you might like to strengthen.
Use the language of the framework as you develop your goal.
o In determining your goal, you are encouraged to take into consideration your own local or district initiatives.
If your district requires a Professional Growth Plan, reference your yearlong plan as you build this 8-week plan.
If you have department- or grade-level planning goals, explore how the goal for your Professional Growth Plan might
become a sub-goal within that larger context.
Once you have determined your goal statement(s) and a brief rationale (a few sentences), record them on the
Professional Growth Plan template provided.
