II. Course Title : Principles of Teaching 1
Pre-requisite: none
III. Course Description:
This course introduces prospective teachers to the nature of teaching. It deals
specifically with the principles of effective instruction and the concomitant processes
involved; instructional planning and demonstration teaching. The course is a blend of
theoretical information and selected matching actual experiences.
IV. Course Objectives: At the end of this course, the students should be able to:
Cognitive (Knowledge)
1. Explain the different concepts of teaching and the teaching profession
2. Enumerate and cite examples of the different principles of teaching
3. Develop instructional decisions processes in the teaching-learning process
Affective (Attitude)
1. Display positive attitudes towards teaching particularly in:
a. Appreciating teaching as a profession
b. Manifesting professionalism and appropriate work ethics befitting a teacher
c. Demonstrating commitment to his/her tasks assigned and capability to
engage in collaborative efforts and teamwork
Psychomotor (Skills)
1. Demonstrate decision-making skills related to the appropriate selection of
a. Objectives
b. Subject matter/ content
c. Methodologies/ strategies
d. Different types of instructional materials
e. Instructional delivery system
2. Exhibit competencies in
a. Applying principles of teaching/learning in contrived and if possible in
actual natural situations
