LITERACY
SCHOOL BLUES
by Daniel Pennac
When you find a non-fiction book that is
heartily endorsed by two childrens
laureates (in this case Michael Morpurgo
and Quentin Blake) then you know you must
be on to something important Daniel
Pennac is a successful writer of books both for adults and
children, who also lectures at learned institutions so why
was he labelled a dunce at school? This book has so much
ofimportance to say (both good and bad) about the
education system, about reading and about learning that I
can only really sign off by quoting Michael Morpurgos note
on the cover Every education minister, every teacher,
every parent should read this book.
(13th-17th January)
CONGRATULATIONS
Anxious
Unless youre frightened of them, you shouldnt say youre
anxious to see your friends. Youre actually eager, or
"excited." To be anxious implies a looming fear, dread or
anxiety. It doesnt mean youre looking forward to something.

e are campaigning to stop littering and vandalism not only in our community but
also in our school. Why start now you may ask? It may be too late if we ignore
this problem. Dont you want to live in a nice environment? Would you litter
and vandalise your own home? Why not help us set an example to everyone not
only at Hatch End Academy but in our Community?
Harrow Agenda 21 is a charity fighting and campaigning to stop littering and vandalism. We
have chosen this charity as it also promotes sustainability, recycling, protection of the environment and transport.
It is our future we are campaigning for. A future of clean streets we are proud to live and walk in
and call our own.
