9000 Cagayan de Oro City ON-THE-JOB TRAINING EXECUTIVE SUMMARY REPORT SUMMER 2013
Name: Elper James G. Mangadlao
Course & Year: BSCE - 5 Company: Xavier University Engineering Resource Center (XU-ERC) What I did in the training: Our first work in this OB-OJT was the inspection of the houses located in Xavier EcoVille. In EcoVille, we did inspections about structural concerns in their houses so that residents can address their complains and comments about their houses there. Since we have the knowledge about those concerns, I was able to answer questions regarding their house. Some of those concerns were not so big that they have to ask for the in-charge of the EcoVille, thats why I was able to answer some of those and also, I told them some tips so that they can overcome some concerns about their house. Next was the Global Positioning System (GPS) trainings we did in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. We thought some residents how to use the GPS so that they would be able to identify the exact parameters and boundaries of their farmlands. I was glad that most of them understood the training in a short period of time. Then we went into the farmlands of some residents there, they showed us their farmland boundaries and later we located those using GPS. We also helped the PNP plot a map for crimes that happened during the year 2012 so that it would be easier for them to identify the common areas of crimes in Cagayan de Oro City. PNP gave us data and we plotted their data in a (Geographic Information System) GIS software so that we would be able to present to them a map showing the crimes happened last year. We also did it by month so that the would be able to assess the crimes happened each month. What I learned from the training: In a semester of OB OJT, first of all I learned a lot in terms of enhancing my skills for my future profession. I think the most important thing that I learned, aside from the technical works of a civil engineering student, I learned how to interact with different people, different community and different personalities. EcoVille and Claveria works were more on interactions. And I consider it the most important because in real life, lets say at work, an engineer deals with people, not just equations and solutions for problems and buildings and interaction and relationships among coworkers is very important. In technicality, I learned stuffs like how to deal a moist wall during rain, etc. The use of GPS which I didnt understood when I was in 3 rd year, now I undertand how to use it. Also the use of GIS mapping, using ArcGIS is also very helpful. Overall, I found this OB-OJT very good for us graduating civil engineering students.
