Hat, Collar and Bag Set Pattern

LILY DOUBLE QUICK Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art. 50: 2 skeins Gray and 4 skeins Wine.
No. 3 Steel Crochet Hook.
Pillbox hat frame with indented crown and point at back.

Hook and eye snap fastener buckram and felt.

HAT: Starting at center of Crown with Wine, ch 5, join with sl st to form ring.
RND 1: Ch 1, in ring make 2 sc, 5 hdc and 8 dc. Do not join rnds. Mark end of rnds. Work following rnds in back lps only.
RND 2: 2 dc in each st (30 dc).
RND 3: * Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc (1 dc in-creased); repeat from * around.
RND 4: Dc in each dc, increasing 15 dc evenly. Repeat Rnd 4 thru Rnd 9 or until size of Crown, ending with 5 hdc, 5 sc. Mark
remaining lp of dc at base of last sc.
NEXT RND: Sl st in both lps of each st around; join. Drop Wine.
TRIM: With edge of Crown facing, attach Gray to mark-ed st, (ch 1, sl st in remaining lp of next st) repeated around and around to
center. Fasten off.
SIDE: With Wine, ch 2, turn, hdc in back lp of each sl st; join.
RND 2: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in back lp of sl st, dc in back lp of each st around with 15 incs. evenly spaced; join to ch-3, sl st in next dc.
Repeat Rnd 2 twice, working thru both lps of sts. Fasten off. Attach Wine to 18th st to right of 3-dc shell and make 4 sc, 4 hdc, 4 dc
and 6 tr; 5 tr in next (center) dc of shell; then make 6 tr, 4 dc, 4 hdc, 4 sc and 1 sl st. Fasten off. Attach to 3d sc from start of last
row and make 6 sc, 6 hdc and 5 dc; 5 dc in next (center) st; then make 5 dc, 6 hdc, 6 sc and 1 sl st. Fasten off.
RND 5: Attach to center of 5-dc shell, ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in each st for 7 inches, make dc around to 7 inches from end,
hdc in each st to end; join.
NEXT ROW: Ch 1, sc in back lp of each st around; join. Repeat, going thru both lps. Fasten off. With Crown facing, attach Gray
and repeat Trim on edge of 1st and 5th rnds of Side.
SPIRAL: With Wine, ch 2, 6 sc in 2d ch from hook. In back lps, (2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times.
Fasten off. Attach Gray to remain-ing lp of 1st sc in center, (ch 1, sl st in next st) repeated to end. Fasten off. Make a 2d piece. Sew
ends of spirals tog. Make 3 Double-Spirals. Sew on front of Hat.
BOW: Cut 24 strands Gray, each 20 inches long. Divide strands into 3 groups and braid. Wind thread 1 inches from ends and tie.

Fringe ends. Shape into a bow and sew on back of Hat. Sew Hat on frame, turning last 2 sc-rnds over, inside frame.
COLLAR: With Wine, ch 99 to measure 14 inches.
ROW 1: Sk 3 ch, dc in 96 ch.
ROW 2: Ch 3, turn and work in back lps; holding the last 2 lps of each dc on hook, make dc in 1st 2 dc, Y O and draw thru all 3 lps
on hook at same time (Cluster made); dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc (1 dc increased), (dc in next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc) * 8 times,
dc in next 6 dc, dc in 2 end sts made into a Cluster.
ROW 3: Working in front lps, repeat Row 2 to *; dc in next 66 dc, an inc, 10 dc, an inc. and 6 dc; a Cluster in 2 end sts.
ROW 4: Work in both lps. Ch 3, turn, dc-Cluster in 1st 2 dc, then make 13 dc, an inc, (18 dc, an inc) 4 times, 14 dc; dc-Cluster in 2
end sts.
ROW 5: Repeat Row 4, making 6 incs. around.
ROW 6: Repeat Row 4, making 7 incs. around. Fasten off.
EDGE: Attach Wine to other end at neck corner, work sc across end, 2 hdc in 1st st in last row, make dc around, with 7 incs. to 3d
dc from end, 2 hdc in next st, sc in next st, work sc across end to neck corner. Fas-ten off.
TRIM: Attach Gray to Edge adjacent to Row 1, ch 1, sl st in remaining lp of 1st dc in Row 1, (ch 1, sl st in next st) repeated around;
ch 1, sl st in Edge. Fasten off. Repeat around Row 2. Then attach Gray to neck corner and repeat Trim in front lps of Edge. Make 7
Double-Spirals (as for Hat) and sew on Collar, evenly spaced. Sew on hook and eye. Steam and press dry on back thru a cloth.
BAG: With Wine, ch 64.
ROW 1: Sk 3 ch, dc in 59 ch, dc in 2 end ch made into a Cluster.
ROW 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in front lp of each st across, (dc in end dc, dc in end ch-3) made into a Cluster.
ROW 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in back lp of each st across, (dc in end dc, dc in ch-3) made into a Cluster. Repeat Rows 2 & 3 for 11
inches, ending with Row 2. Then make 4 more rows, going thru both lps of sts. Fasten off.
TRIM: With starting end facing, attach Gray to re-maining lp of 1st dc in Row 1, * (ch 1, sl st in next st) repeated across. Fasten off.

ROW 2: Return to other end of row and attach Gray to remaining lp of 1st dc in next row and repeat from * up to 5th row from other
end. Repeat Trim on end row, working in front lps only, then work sc across long side, across end and other long side; join and
fasten off. Repeat Trim in front lps of sc on each long side. Make 3 Double-Spirals (as for Hat) and sew on plain band of flap.
GUSSET: With Wine, ch 30, sk 1 ch, sc in next 12 ch, hdc in next 10 ch, dc in next 6 ch, 7 dc in end ch; on other side of chain
make 6 dc, 10 hdc and 12 sc.
ROW 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st halfway to end, dc in each st around to same place on opposite side, increasing 7 dc around
end; hdc to end.
ROW 3: Ch 1, turn, * sc around with 9 incs. around end. Fasten off.
ROW 4: Attach Gray to start of last row and repeat Row 3, beginning at *. Make a 2d piece. Stretch and pin pieces right-side-down
in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth. Line Bag and Gussets with buckram and felt. Sew a Gusset in each end. Sew
snap fastener on flap.
