Health and Safety
What are the measures we
will take in case a child is not
feeling well or is injured?
First aid kits are available in all
buildings.
The School’s Doctor is on cam-
pus every day from 900 to 1400,
and remains on call afterwards.
Children in need of medical attention will be ac-
companied to the clinic by an adult, and evalu-
ated by the school’s Doctors. In all cases parents
will be notified.
In case of an emergency, an injured child will be
transported to the appropriate facility, Mother
Teresa Hospital, The Military Hospital , The
American Hospital of Tirana, or the facility a par-
ent specifies on the Emergency Instructions form,
and their specified Doctor contacted.
Medical emergency contacts are posted in the
clinic.
Teachers and staff members will be regularly up-
dated with medical information related to sea-
sonal or non-seasonal health issues, and be re-
viewed on basic first aid and CPR.

(Dr. Toska graduated from the Medical School in
Tirana in 2006. She spent two years as a medical
intern at the ABC Family Health Center where she
had an extensive experience in working with chil-
dren. She joined the staff at the TIS this August
as School Doctor. )

out an updated Emergency Instructions document
and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Returning members of the TIS Advisory Board will
be meeting on September 23th. This year’s Board
currently has two vacancies. If you are interested
in being a candidate for the board please contact

DRA
The Developmental
Reading Assessment,
DRA, is a component of
QSI’s reading and lan-
guage arts curriculum.
The primary purposes of
the assessment are to
do the following:
• Help Identify students’ skills and plan for timely instruc-
tion in reading engagement, fluency, and comprehension.
• Monitor student growth on a variety of crucial skills and
strategies that successful readers utilize.
• Prepare students to be successful at meeting today’s
classroom testing expectations.
• Provide support and forms to
keep parents and other stake-
holders informed about the
level of student reading.
This assessment has been inte-
grated into QSI’s reading pro-
gram and will allow for teachers
to guide students to the appro-
priate level reading material and
monitor their progress.
TIS School Lunch Program
Dear Parents,
Parents can purchase a full year of meals
at a 50% discount. Full month orders (20
lunches) can also be purchased. Dis-
counted pre-paid advanced daily orders, are also avail-
able. October orders need to be in my September
11th, to receive the discounted price. November and
December order forms will be distributed in October.
