MARKETING COURSE
BACKGROUND:
“The  Business  of  the  Business”  is  a  12  week  essential  marketing  course,  to  be  taught  by  the  
former   studio   marketing   executive   who   participated   in   Star   Wars,   Alien,   Hunt   For   Red  
October,   This   is   Spinal   Tapp,   Broadway   Danny   Rose   and   over   100   other   full   theatrical  
marketing  campaigns.  NEAL  LEMLEIN,  provides  a  comprehensive  survey  of  the  business  side  of  
motion   picture   theatrical   acquisition,   distribution   and   marketing.     The   course   originally  
developed   and,   taught   by   Lemlein   as   an   adjunct   professor   at   USC’s   Cinema   and  
Television/Marshall  School  of  Business  for  eight  years,  will  now  be  available  in  Colorado.    
 
By   way   of   background,   Lemlein   has   served   as   Senior   Vice   President   of   Media   and   Marketing  
Services   at   20th   Century   Fox,   Executive   Vice   President   of   Marketing   at   Universal   Studios  
Hollywood,   Executive   Vice   President,   Director,   D’arcy   Masius   Benton   and   Bowles   Entertainment  
(Paramount,  NBC  Network  Television)  and  as  an  executive  at  the  CBS  Television  network.    

OBJECTIVES:
Over  the  course  of  twelve  weeks,  students  will  be  given  specific  perspective  and  instruction  on  
every   marketing   discipline   entailed   in   the   creation   of   multi-­‐media   campaign   platforms.     Each  
marketing   discipline   will   be   devoted   to   in   weekly   3   hour   sessions.     In   certain   weekly   lectures,  
other  industry  professionals  will  appear  as  special  guest  speakers,  based  upon  scheduling  and  
availability.  At  the  end  of  the  course,  class  members  will  be  divided  into  “campaign  teams”  and  
asked  to  prepare  and  compete  in  a  realistic  marketing  arena,  working  on  specific  assigned  film  
projects.  
 
Acquire   specific   and   practical   working   knowledge   of   industry   marketing   know-­‐how,  
including:   Distribution   Planning   and   Strategy,   Market   Research,   Creative   Advertising  
Development,  Strategic  Media  Planning  and  Execution  and  Publicity/Promotion.
