2. Log collection and analysis tools

2.1 Log collection
2.1.1 Log collection for hosts
EMC Grab and EMC Reports are tools to collect logs on AIX server (EMC Grab) and
Windows server Windows (EMC Reports) about machine configuration.
Tools are available (free access) from ftp sites:
ftp://ftp.emc.com/pub/emcgrab/Unix/
and
ftp://ftp.emc.com/pub/emcgrab/Windows/
or from https sites
https://support.emc.com/
and
https://powerlink.emc.com/
Run the script onto the host (or server) and get back the resulting file (EMC Grab or EMC
Reports) which will be formatted and readable through the E-Lab Advisor tool (see
chapter 1.1.2 to locate and get it).

2.1.2 Log and traces from Swithes

From one station configured with FTP server, make a 'ssh' or 'telnet'connection onto the
targeted switch.
Once connected onto the switch, log on 'administrator' and run the command 'supportsave'.
As a result, the switch is asking for the IP@ of the station (equipped with FTP server) you
are on, and start to collect traces and send automatically them into the current repertory
of the station.

Following instructions must be run onto the two SP of the Clariion subsystem bay.
a) SP trace collection
SP trace collection is backgroung working and needs about 5 to 10 minutes before
completion.
From Unisphere, select 'Generate Diagnostic Files' into 'System' tab.

b) Transfer SP Collect files onto the station

To get back SP Collect file, select 'Get Diagnostic Files' into 'System' tab.

In the 'File Transfer Manager' page, please select the file to transfer and the
recipient folder located on the station. Then click onto 'Transfer'.
Note:
SP Collect always ended with name extension'data.zip', for exemple:
CKM00102600471_SPA_2011-12-23_09-52-46_222079_data.zip
Maybe there are some SP Collect already existing into the queue, so when you make
transfer onto your station, select the one according to the correct date.

2.1.4 Log from Clariion (File mode)

a) Nas_checkup
Previously before collecting the logs 'supportmaterials' (from Celerra and VNX file
servers), internal script named 'nas_checkup' needs to be run. For that:

Make a connection on the Control Station

Run the script through the command /nas/bin/nas_checkup

The script will create a list of 'ordered events' depending on urgency and importance
(Informations, Warnings and Errors) along with corrective actions to carry on.
b) Support Materials

Make a connection on the Control Station

run the script through the command /nas/tools/collect_support_materials

To get back the 'support materials' logs on your station, one FTP server as
WinSCP or other is needed.
The 'support materials' is a compress file with '.tar' extension and reside into
the repertory /nas/emcsupport (or depending on Unisphere version, it may be
located into folders /nas/var/log or /nas/var/emcsupport).
It has got this form: support_material_Serialnumber.date_time.tar.gz

2.2 Clariion Logs Analysis

First step is to download TRiiAGE and CAP2 tools (see chapter: 1.2.1 ).
CAP2 is used for log format and layout, TRiiAGE is only making log for analysis.

2.2.1 TRiiAGE implementation

a) Run TRiiAGE and select the repertory which contains SP Collect logs on your station.

Tick 'Cap Report' (optional) if you want to generate and open automatically easily
readable report when analysis process is over (see sub-chapter 'CAP2 implementation'
to see CAP2 result report exemple). Click onto 'OK' button.

b) Files generated by TRiiAGE

From 'SP Collect' files (starting with SL7E1100600205_SP... in the exemple hereunder),
TRiiAGE has generated files with '.txt' extension, and CAP2 has generated '.xml' file.

It is interesting (for exemple) to display analysis files like 'TriiAGE_full_Analysis.txt'

and 'mergedlogs.txt' (even if these don't appear in the list above because the
screenshot is too short).
'TRIaaGE_full_Analysis.txt' file contains events sorted by type and date. This way it is
easier to scan occurred events.
