PETER BLAKE 1932- British Pop Art

Blakes Childhood was disrupted by evacuation during the second world war.
Many of his works show scenes that express a longing for his lost youth or an
empathy with the concerns of youth. Wearing jackets covered with badges, the
boys in ABC MINORS 1955 seem to occupy the same space as the viewer,
positioning us at the same level as the children. The influence of global culture on
Blakes home in the UK is expressed in Self Portrait with Badges 1961, the
artist centre stage, against a softly painted green and pleasant landscape, proudly
showing his increasingly interest in American Culture.

Andy Warhol 1928-1987

Andy Warhol, whose portraits of movie stars, world leaders, soup

cans and other American icons made him one of the
most emulated artists of his time.
Credited with single-handedly reviving portrait art, Warhol made his
mark by using Polaroid snapshots, news photos and photo booth
prints -- sometimes hundreds of them -- and reproducing them on
silkscreen prints.

Roy Lichtenstein

Next to Andy Warhol he is considered as THE great artist of the Pop

Art movement. The use of familiar subjects like comic strips, bank
notes or advertising themes, makes the art of Roy Lichtenstein
easily accessible. The drastic change in Lichtenstein's career came
with his first painting in the style of a comic strip. It was a painting
of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. The story goes, that he painted it
for his kids who had provoked him by saying that "daddy could not
paint as well as the images in the comic books". So it may have
been his own kids, who are responsible for the artist's move into the
olymp of art celebraties.
Lichtenstein worked a lot with stencils, thus producing rows of
oversized dots that should make his paintings or prints look like a
huge mass publication product. Although he prepared and executed
his works painstakingly like the old masters, he wanted his works of
art look like machine made. One of his peculiarities was, that he did
not want his brush strokes to be seen.
