The Two Methods

On the following pages you will find the lyrics and chords to the Fifty #1 Hits medley.
In addition you will also find piano charts that will show you how to play each of the
chords.
As you have seen on the Practice Lesson 1 and Practice Lesson 2 videos of Episode I,
there are two ways to play the fifty songs medley.
The first is by playing chords with both hands, which is what we recommend you do first, if
you are just starting out. The second way, as described on Practice Lesson 2, is to play the
chords with your right hand, while playing a bass line with your left hand.
The piano chord charts described in this book apply for both methods. It will explain how
to play the chords with both hands if you are using the first approach, and how to play
the chords with the right hand only if you are using the second, fancier approach.

How to Use this Song Book

Ready to play?
The Fifty #1 Hit Songs Medley contained in this book is in lead sheet form. You might be
wondering how to use them and how you can make the most out of this book. This
section is dedicated to explaining everything you need to know to unleash your inner
musician!
First of all, you may be asking yourself "what is a lead sheet?" Simple, a lead sheet is a
form of music notation that shows just the chords and the lyrics of any song. And believe
us, this is more than enough as the chords are actually the skeleton of every song. Lead
sheets are super easy to play and have been used by musicians for many years - in fact, it
is often the preferred way for trained musicians to write and play songs quickly.
There are multiple ways to play from a lead sheet. However, first of all, you must
remember that you won't be playing the melody - you'll be singing it (or having your
family or friends sing with you!).
So what can you find on a lead sheet? The lyrics are combined with symbols that are
positioned on the words of the lyrics. These symbols -such as C, G, F or Amactually represent chords. Musicians use these symbols for short and it is a very powerful
notation as you can write complete songs with just a few chord symbols.
What are chords? Here is a quick recap: chords are simply a combination of three or
more notes that are meant to be played together. If you play more than two notes
together, its a chord. But, of course, some combinations of notes sound better than
others. The lead sheet will tell you exactly what chords to play with the chord symbols you
will see.
What happens if I dont know the chord symbols? Not a problem! At the end of the
songs you will find images of a piano keyboard which will show you exactly what notes to
play for each chord symbol. This will make it extremely easy for you to be able to play the
songs!

The piano keyboard images will look like the one below, where you will be able to see the
name or symbol used to represent the chord at the top, and the piano keys to be pressed
in green:

Don't worry about the chord names - yet! Just focus on playing the right notes whenever
you see a chord symbol.
The most wonderful thing about this medley is that well be using just 4 chords to play
through all fifty songs, which means that you will only see four different chord symbols:
C, G, F, and Am.
"So, what are the different methods?"
The first method is to play the same chord with both hands, at the same time, as you saw
in the Practice Lesson 1 video. You will get a full, rich sound. Your left hand should be
placed close to the leftmost part of your keyboard, so you get a deeper sound. The trick,
however, is that your right hand should be at least an octave (12 keys) away from your
left hand, so you get an even fuller sound (this detail is very important). This is the method
we most recommend, especially if you are just starting out.
Watch the Practice Lesson 1 Video Again.
The second method is to play the chord on the right hand along with the bass notes on the
left hand. How do you know what bass note to play with your left hand? A simple way to
do this is to play with your left hand the root note of the chord you are playing on your
right hand, simultaneously (e.g.: play a C note -with your left hand- if your chord is C;
play an A note, if your chord is Am, or play a D note, if your chord is Dm).

In the Practice Lesson 2 video we show you how to do this, and we also show you how to
play a bass line in a fancier way to make your playing sound more sophisticated. If you
feel that you have mastered the first method, we recommend you give it a try.
Watch the Practice Lesson 2 Video Again.
Can I do anything different to make it sound nicer? - you might ask. Of course! There are
dozens of ways of accompanying a singer or play songs. In fact, there is so much more
we can teach you; and even further, if you are surprised about what you can accomplish
with just one hidden musical pattern, just imagine all you will be able to do once you
completely discover the logic behind music.

You will find detailed information about all this, as well as everything you need to know to
take your piano playing to new heights, in our premium Digital Home-Study Course The
Logic Behind Music.
This course is recommended for all levels, whether you are a first-time player, beginner,
intermediate player, or advanced player. By teaching you how to recognize all of the
hidden patterns of music, you will learn not just how to play your favorite songs across all
styles of music, but also how to play songs by ear, improvise, and create your own music.

Success Stories from our Digital Home-Study Courses Students

"This is the best product I have seen online. You have taken music making to a whole new
level never done before online. I strongly recommend this product to everyone who has
just begun learning or has been learning for a few years. They will suddenly begin to
understand what they are playing. Congrats Rod to yourself and your team."
Oscar Dsouza
Dubai, United Arab Emirates

"Like you Rod, I have been through many piano teachers, none of them took the time to
break down the theory, which is so so important. Thanks, your interactive teaching is barnone the best I've come across in all my years of trying to master playing the piano. Best
Tim"
Timothy Wolliston
Florida, United States

"Michael, please relay to the boss that I am completely satisfied with the material. I'm
working it out on my own. This beats any program I've used before - including living piano
teachers just in it for the thirty bucks for the half-hour."
Bruce Schmelz
Delaware, United States

"The course is really amazing, and I am not an easy customer, believe me :). Before
knowing about your course I researched a lot and had really bad experiences with other
courses that I bought and returned due to my complete un-satisfaction. To give a 5 stars
feedback like that is because I really liked it"
Bruno Spinelli
Florida, United States

"This course is by far the best course I've done! I've learnt more during this course than I've
ever learnt from all my piano teachers combined. I'm completely sold at this course, and
to make things even better, the staff and the help from the creators is outstanding. I'd
give this course 12 / 10 if I could."
